Graphene, two dimensional single layer of carbon atoms, has tremendous attention due to its superior property such as high electron mobility, high thermal conductivity and optical transparency. Especially, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown graphene has been used as a promising material for high quality and large-scale graphene film. Unfortunately, although CVD-grown graphene has strong advantages, application of the CVD-grown graphene is limited due to ineffective transfer process that delivers the graphene onto a desired substrate by using polymer support layer such as PMMA(polymethyl methacrylate). The transferred CVD-grown graphene has serious drawback due to remaining polymeric residues generated during transfer process, which induces the poor physical and electrical characteristics by a p-doping effect and impurity scattering. To solve such issue incurred during polymer transfer process of CVD-grown graphene, various approaches including thermal annealing, chemical cleaning, mechanical cleaning have been tried but were not successful in getting rid of polymeric residues. On the other hand, lithographical patterning of graphene is an essential step in any form of microelectronic processing and most of conventional lithographic techniques employ photoresist for the definition of graphene patterns on substrates. But, application of photoresist is undesirable because of the presence of residual polymers that contaminate the graphene surface consistent with the effects generated during transfer process. Therefore, in order to fully utilize the excellent properties of CVD-grown graphene, new approach of transfer and patterning techniques which can avoid polymeric residue problem needs to be developed. In this work, we carried out transfer and patterning process simultaneously with no polymeric residue by using a metal etch mask. The patterned thin gold layer was deposited on CVD-grown graphene instead of photoresists in order to make much cleaner and smoother surface and then transferred onto a desired substrate with PMMA, which does not directly contact with graphene surface. We compare the surface properties and patterning morphology of graphene by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy(AFM) and Raman spectroscopy. Comparison with the effect of residual polymer and metal on performance of graphene FET will be discussed.
We have prepared PP/Ba-ferrite composite fabrics by a melt-blown spinning method and investigated the relationship between the properties of PP/Ba-ferrite composite fabrics and melt-blown processing factors. A PP composite containing Ba-ferrite as a magnetic particulate filler was prepared in the form of pellet from PP resin and Ba-ferrite powder by melt compounding using a single extruder. Screw turning force (rpm), DCD (die-to-collector distance), and Ba-ferrite content were changed. We measured diameters of fiber, mechanical, thermal, and magnetic properties for the composited PP fabrics. The elongation was increased and a fiber diameter and tensile strength were decreased as the spinning distance increased or screw turning force decreased. The crystallinity was increased with increasing spinning distance according to XRD. It was assumed that the orientation of crystalline domain in the neat PP without ferrite was increased by drawing in mechanical direction, however, the orientation in the PP composite was decreased according to XRD analysis. We measured a magnetic property of PP nonwoven fabric containing Ba-ferrite powder. A coercive force, maximum magnetization, and residual magnetization are reduced with the spinning distance. According to the result of TGA measurement, the heat resistance was increased with the Ba-ferrite powder content and with decreasing the spinning distance.
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit superelasticity given the ambient temperature is above the austenite finish temperature threshold, the magnitude of which significantly depends on the metal ingredients though. For the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs, their superelasticity was found being maintained even when the ambient temperature is down to $-40^{\circ}C$. Thus this makes such SMAs particularly favorable for outdoor seismic applications, such as the framed structures located in cold regions with substantial temperature oscillation. Due to the thermo-mechanical coupling mechanism, the hysteretic properties of SMAs vary with temperature change, primarily including altered material strength and different damping. Thus, this study adopted the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs as the kernel component of the SMA braces. To quantify the seismic response characteristics at various temperatures, a wide temperature range from -40 to $40^{\circ}C$ are considered. The middle temperature, $0^{\circ}C$, is artificially selected to be the reference temperature in the performance comparisons, as well the corresponding material properties are used in the seismic design procedure. Both single-degree-of-freedom systems and a six-story braced frame were numerically analyzed by subjecting them to a suite of earthquake ground motions corresponding to the design basis hazard level. To the frame structures, the analytical results show that temperature variation generates minor influence on deformation and energy demands, whereas low temperatures help to reduce acceleration demands. Further, attributed to the excellent superelasticity of the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs, the frames successfully maintain recentering capability without leaving residual deformation upon considered earthquakes, even when the temperature is down to $-40^{\circ}C$.

The thermal characteristics of concrete fabricated with blast furnace slag were investigated in this paper. Test parameters included water-binder ratio and the content of furnace slag. Experimental program were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength and split tensile strength under high-temperature thermal cycling, and to measure thermal properties including thermal conductivity and specific heat. Test results showed that the residual compressive strength of mixtures with blast furnace slag was greater than that of mixture without blast furnace slag. In addition, thermal conductivity of mixtures with blast furnace slag was greater than that of mixtures without blast furnace slag. It indicates that blast furnace slag was favorable for charging and discharging in thermal energy storage system. Test results of this study would be used to design concrete module system of thermal energy storage.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The degree of conversion may influence the ultimate mechanical and physical properties of provisional crown and fixed partial denture materials. The high levels of the unreacted residual monomer may cause deleterious effect on the properties. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to measure the degree of conversion of bis-acrylic based provisional crown and fixed partial denture materials by using an infrared spectroscopic method. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Chemically activated three bis-acrylic based provisional crown and fixed partial denture materials, LuxaTemp [DMG, Hamburg, Germany], fast set TemPhase [Kerr, Orange, CA, USA] and Protemp 3 Garant [3M-ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA], were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). The FTIR spectra of the materials tested were immediately obtained after mixing. The specimens were stored under dry conditions and at $23^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, and then the spectra of the materials were also obtained. The degree of conversion (%) was calculated from the spectrum of the absorbance between the aliphatic double bond at 1637 $cm^{-1}$ and the aromatic double bond at 1608 $cm^{-1}$ using the baseline method. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the multiple comparison Scheffe test at the significance level of 0.05. RESULTS: The mean value and standard deviation of the degree of conversion were 52.5 % ${\pm}$ 1.1 %, 50.3 % ${\pm}$ 0.8 %, and 42.3 % ${\pm}$ 4.9 % for LuxaTemp, Protemp 3 Garant and fast set TemPhase, respectively. There was no significant difference between LuxaTemp and Protemp 3 Garant, whereas there was a statistically difference between Protemp 3 Garant and fast set TemPhase, and LuxaTemp and fast set TemPhase (P < .05). CONCLUSION: The degree of conversion of fast set TemPhase was significantly lower than those of the others. The degree of conversion may be correlated with the rate of polymerization.

Recently, there have been many efforts to establish suitable processes for recycling fly ash, which is produced in thermal power plants and which poses serious environmental problems. Use of fly ash as a major ingredient of ceramic tiles can increase fly ash utilization, as well as reduce the cost of raw materials in ceramic tile production. In this study, the effects of fly ash addition on ceramic tile properties such as bending strength, water absorption and porosity were investigated. A manufacturing process of ceramic tile was developed for utilization of fly ash with high carbon content. In this approach, it is important to hold the ceramic tiles at a temperature that is sufficient for carbon oxidation, before the pores supplying oxygen to the inside of the ceramic tile are sealed. Ceramic wall tiles were manufactured with 0-40wt% of fly ash addition. The water absorption and porosity of the fired body were slightly changed with increasing fly ash content up to 30wt% and decreased with greater amounts of fly ash addition. The bending strength of ceramic tile including 10wt% fly ash increased, reaching a level comparable to that of ceramic tile without fly ash.
Rice plants are subjected to various forces such as natural force of wind and mechanical force of cultivating machines. Rheological behavior of the rice stem can be expressed in terms of three variables : stress, relaxation and time. The objectives of this study are to examine stress relaxation, creep and recovery characteristics on the rice stem in case of axial and radial loading. Stress relaxation with time was studied on three levels of loading rate and on four levels of applied stress. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The hysterisis losses of the rice stem distinctly observed at the radial compression in comparison with axial compression. The hysterisis loss implied that the stem to absorbed energy without being deformed beyond the yield point. 2. Ageneralized Maxwell model consisting of three elements gave a good description of the relaxation behavior of the rice stem. Rate of loading was more significant on the observed relaxation behavior within the short relaxation time, but there were little influences of rate of loading on the relaxation time. 3. The stress relaxation intensity and the residual stress increased in magnitude as the applied stress increased, but the relaxation time was little affected by the applied stress. 4. The coefficients of the stress relaxation model showed much differences in the radial compression and the axial compression, especially the higher relaxation stress of the third element was observed in the radial compression. 5. The behaviors of rice stem in creep and recovery test also might be represented by a four element Burger's model. But the coefficients of the creep model were different from those of the recovery model. 6. The steady-state phenomena of creep appeared at the stress larger than 20 MPa in Samkang and 1.8 MPa in Whajin. 7. The elastic modulus of the stem showed the range from 40 to 60 MPa. It could be considered, as a result, the rice stems had viscoelastic properties.
A number of thin-film deposition technologies have been developed. However, even a thin film whose properties are excellent may not be used as long as the adhesion strength between the thin film and the substrate is poor. For thin films, the adhesion strength is as important as the properties. In the present article, relation between interface structure and thin film adhesion, and factors affecting thin film adhesion are reviewed. Two kinds of factors, internal factors and external factors, affect thin film adhesion. Such factors as composition, structure, and reactivity of both thin film and substrate as well as surface roughness of the substrate and residual stress of the thin film belong to internal factors. And such factors as load, temperature, humidity, and corrosive environment belong to external factors. It is also reviewed that how we can control the internal factors and the external factors to enhance or keep the adhesion strength.
A simple method to measure the elastic modulus E and Poisson's ratio v of diamod-like carbon (DLC) films deposited on Si wafer was suggested. Using the anisotropic etching technique of Si we could make the edge of DLC overhang free from constraint of Si substrate. DLC film is chemically so inert that we could not on-serve any surface damage after the etching process. The edge of DLC overhang free from constraint of Si substrate exhibited periodic sinusoidal shape. By measuring the amplitude and the wavelength of the sinu-soidal edge we could determine the stain of the film required to adhere to the substrate. Since the residual stress of film can be determine independently by measurement of the curvature of film-substrate com-posite we could calculated the biaxial elastic modulus E/(1-v) using stress-strain relation of thin films. By comparing the biaxial elastic modulus with the plane-strain modulus E/(1-{{{{ { v}^{2 } }}) measured by nano-in-dentation we could further determine the elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio independently. This method was employed to measure the mechanical properties of DLC films deposited by {{{{ { {C }_{6 }H }_{6 } }} rf glow discharge. The was elastic modulus E increased from 94 to 169 GPa as the {{{{ { V}_{ b} / SQRT { P} }} increased from 127 to 221 V/{{{{ {mTorr }^{1/2 } }} Poisson's ratio was estimated to be abou 0.16∼0.22 in this {{{{ { V}_{ b} / SQRT { P} }} range. For the {{{{ { V}_{ b} / SQRT { P} }} less than 127V/{{{{ {mTorr }^{1/2 } }} where the plastic deformation can occur by the substrate etching process however the present method could not be applied.

This study has a different direction from the existing technology of applying recycled carbon fiber obtained by recycling waste CFRP to CFRP again. A study was conducted to utilize recycled carbon fiber as a raw material for manufacturing a carbon/carbon (C/C) composite material comprising carbon as a matrix. First, it was attempted to recycle a commonly used epoxy resin composite material through a thermal decomposition process. By applying the newly proposed oxidation-inert atmosphere conversion technology to the pyrolysis process, the residual carbon rate of 1~2% was improved to 19%. Through this, the possibility of manufacturing C/C composite materials utilizing epoxy resin was confirmed. However, in the case of carbon obtained by the oxidation-inert atmosphere controlled pyrolysis process, the degree of oxygen bonding is high, so further improvement studies are needed. In addition, short-fiber C/C composite material specimens were prepared through the crushing and disintegrating processes after thermal decomposition of waste CFRP, and the optimum process conditions were derived through the evaluation of mechanical properties.
