Current measurements at 3 sections and numerical experiments were carried out in Masan Bay to understand the effect of the wind on the residual currents and pollutant transport. The vertical distribution of horizontal velocities were directly affected by the wind at the depths of 1m and 2m beneath the sea surface. Analysis of the velocity data suggested that changes in the vertical gravitational circulation contributed to the net circulation. The net transport of water through the northern part of the bay was observed to be landward, with wind-induced transport of about 100m super(3)/s. Hence, wind is concluded to be the dominant mechanism driving the net circulation in the northern area of Masan Bay. Numerical experiments are shown that when S wind with 5m/s blew, northern area of the bay was generated the horizontal circulation of clockwise and local gyre. On the contrary of those, N wind made her to the anti-clockwise. In the case of no wind, the tidal residual current(constant flow) is very small or neglected except the bay-mouth. The inflow or outflow pattern of the mouth is considered as the flows generated by tidal residual current only. The distance of wind-induced transport of pollutant was as long as 2 times of no wind during the one tidal period.

To ensure the safety of research reactors, the water level must be maintained above the required height. When a pipe ruptures, the siphon phenomenon causes continuous loss of coolant until the hydraulic head is removed. To protect the reactor core from this kind of accident, a siphon breaker has been suggested as a passive safety device. This study mainly focused on two variables: the size of the pipe rupture and the timing of air entrainment. In this study, the size of the pipe rupture was increased to the guillotine break case. There was a region in which a larger pipe rupture did not need a larger siphon breaker, and the water flow rate was related to the size of the pipe rupture and affected the residual water quantity. The timing of air entrainment was predicted to influence residual water level. However, the residual water level was not affected by the timing of air entrainment. The experimental cases, which showed the characteristic of partical sweep-out mode in the separation of siphon breaking phenomenon [2], showed almost same trend of physical properties.
Objective : In the cerebral aneurysm surgery, the goal is complete circulatory exclusion of the aneurysm without compromise of normal vessels. In an operating room, an operator should confirm the completeness and precision of the surgical result, before closing the wound. Object of this study was to determine which cases require intraoperative angiography. Methods : We reported our experience with 48 intraoperative angiographic studies performed during the surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysm of these 48 cases. There were 5 giant(10.4%), 15 globular(1.5-2.5cm)(31.25%) and 28 saccular(58.3%) aneurysm. We recorded the incidence of unexpected findings, such as residual aneurysms, major vessel occlusions. Using Fischer's exact test, we assessed whether unexpected angiographic findings showed any correlation with aneurysm site, size and clinical findings. Results : In 5 cases(10.4%), we detected unexpected angiographic findings which resulted in clip adjustment. By means of clip adjustment, an operator could restore the flow of two major arterial occlusion(4.2%) and also obliterate three persistent filling aneurysms(6.3%). Globular aneurysm was the only factor to predict unexpected angiographic findings(p<0.05). The subgroup of globular and giant aneurysm has a high risk of occlusion of the parent artery and its branches and/or residual aneurysm. There were two minor complications related to this procedure. Conclusion : Intraoperative assessment makes it possible to recognize and correct the technical defect. Particularly in globular aneurysm, we were able to prevent both the chance for another operation and the risk of postoperative complications.
Theoretical approach was taken to the whole CNG refueling process. In particular, this study was focused on the prediction of flow rate at any given piping configuration of CNG system, in order that a simulation program for the CNG refueling system should be developed. The simulation result of refueling process was compared with experimental result obtained from various kinds of fueling configuration. The simulation results showed a satisfactory agreement within 10% errors in fueling time, fueling amount, and residual pressure. The developed program would be used a good engineering tools for estimating fueling performance for a any given CNG station.
The characteristics of geothermal resources in Korea was roughly estimated using hot springs, 580 geothermal gradients and 338 heat flow data. In the aspect of hot springs with geologic structure, location of hot springs coincide with fault zone, especially younger age of Cretaceous to Tertiary. In the aspect of geothermal gradients, Pohang area shows the highest geothermal gradient anomaly, which is covered with unconsol idated rock of low thermal conductivity preserving the residual heat from igneous activity or radioactivity elements decay. In the aspect of heat flow density, high anomaly can be found along the zone connecting Uljin-Pohang-Busan on the southeastern part of Korean peninsula at which big fault zone as Yangsan fault is well developed.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of toluene removal by plasma, photocatalyst, and plasma/photocatalyst system with the major parameters such as flow rate, inlet toluene concentration and applied voltage, etc., experimentally. In the combined plasma/photocatalyst process, rates of toluene conversion are represented as 99% at flow rate 250, 500 mL/min while, below 97% at flow rate 1000 mL/min due to the low residence time(reaction time) at the same applied voltage 4173 voltage and toluene inlet concentration 50 ppm. The intermediate products are detected by GC/MS analysis showing the small amounts of benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol and residual ozone concentration $0.04{\sim}0.05$ ppm generated by plasma process in the present system.

The experimental and numerical study has been conducted on the sleeve repair welding of API 5L X65 pipeline. SMA W and GTAW were applied to weld the sleeve. The macrostructure and hardness of repair welds have been examined. The [mite element analysis of the multi-pass sleeve-fillet welding has been conducted to validate the experiment and investigate the effects of in-service welding conditions. The effect of gas flow rate on the hydrogen cracking was investigated. The effect of internal pressure on residual stresses and plastic strain was investigated. The allowable heat input was predicted considering the maximum temperature of inner surface of pipe and cooling rate at CGHAZ.
Unsteady compressible Euler equation is solved and the high-order, high-resolution numerical solver, physical boundary condition, adaptive nonlinear artificial dissipation model and conformal mapping are applied to computation of steady transonic flow and unsteady acoustics. The acoustic characteristics of axi-symmetric duct and two dimensional straight/S channel are studied and the computation results shows good agreements with linear analysis. In transonic case, local time stepping and canceling-the-residual techniques are used for convergence acceleration. The aspect of flow and acoustics in S-channel and the Pattern of noise radiation is changed by inflow Mach no. and static pressure at fan-face.
A relatively new non-traditional finishing process called Abrasive Flow Machining(AFM) is being used to deburr, polish and radius workpiece or produce compressive residual stresses by flowing an abrasive-laden viscoelastic compound across the surface to be machined. This paper presents the effects of AFM on surfaces of tool steel produced by EDM and W-EDM. Using AFM, white layer produced by EDM is erased almost equally and the amount of metal removal is significantly affected the initally machined surface condition of workpiece. The dimension of workiece is enlarged and its surface roughness is improved as AFM time is increased. The optimal AFM time can be established from the experimental results. It is considered that the grinding method lide AFM is useful to grind complex or slim geometry of workpiece even. Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) was used to study the surface characteristics of the workpiece before and after AFM.
A two dimensional shallow-water flow around a cavity driven by a sinusoidally oscillating external flow was studied numerically with an Ekman pumping model. A container model of "T" shape was constructed in the numerical computation for comparison with the experimental observation. The material transport in the external region is in good agreement with the experimentally recorded particle trajectories. It turns out that two large coherent vortices situated in the exterior region of the cavity are responsible for clockwise and counterclockwise drift motions, in large scale, of particles. The Ekman pumping model suggested in this study was found to be satisfactory.isfactory.
