In this paper, the residual stress and young's modulus of the p+ thin film have been estimated by using the electrostatic resonators. The electrostatic plate resonator with four corrugated bridges and another with four flat ones have been fabricated. The deflection of the plate has been calculated under the induced tension and the residual stress and compared with the dynamic test results. When the young's modulus of the p+ silicon is 125 GPa. The estimated residual stresses of the flat and the corrugated bridges are about 15 MPa and less than 5 MPa, respectively. It has been confirmed that the corrugated structure releases the residual tensile stress resulted from the heavy boron diffusion process.
The effect of cyclic compressive stress on fracture responses of Al2O3 was investigated under uniaxial stress cycling. Experimental data were obtained for Al2O3 tension specimens under uniaxial tension-unloading and tension-compression cyclic loading conditions. To investigate the effect of compressive stress on the crack growth, theoretical results from the crack growth rate were compared with measured stress vs. failure relations. At low stress level in tension-compression cycling, residual tensile strains were also observed about failure time.

During manufacturing thick composite cylinders, large thermal residual stresses are developed and induce catastrophic interlaminar failures. Since the residual stresses are dependent on many process parameters, such as temperature distribution during cure, cure shrinkage, winding tension, and migration of fibers, calculation of the residual stresses is very difficult. Therefore a radial-cut method have been used to measure the residual stresses in the composite cylinders. But the conventional radial-cut method needs to know numerous material properties which are not only troublesome to obtain but also vary with change of fiber arrangement during consolidation. In this paper, a new radial-cut method with cut-cylinder-bending test was proposed and the measured residual stresses were compared with calculated thermal residual stresses. It was found that the new radial-cut method which does not need to know any of material properties gave better estimation of residual stresses regardless of radial variation of material properties. Additionally, interlaminar tensile strength could be obtained by the cut-cylinder-bending test.
This study aims to introduce a new bracing system by which even super-wide frames with large openings can be braced. The proposed system, hereafter called Cable-Pulley Brace (CPB), is a tension-only bracing system with a rectilinear configuration. In CPB, a wire rope passes through a rectilinear path around the opening(s) and connects the lower corner of the frame to its opposite upper one. CPB is a secondary load resisting system with a nonlinear-elastic hysteretic behavior due to its initial pre-tension load. As a result, the required energy dissipation would be provided by the MRF itself, and the main intention of using CPB is to contribute to the initial and post-yield stiffness of the whole system. Using a stiffness calibration technique, optimum placement of the CPBs is discussed to yield a uniform displacement demand along the height of the structure. A displacement-based design procedure is proposed by which the MRF with CPB can be designed to achieve a uniform distribution of inter-story drifts with predefined values. Obtained results indicated that CPB leads to significant reductions in maximum and residual deformations of the MRF at the expense of minor increase in the maximum base shear and developed axial force demands in the columns. In the case of a typical 5-story residential building, compared to SMRF system, CPB system reduces maximum amounts of inter-story and residual drifts by 35% and 70%, respectively. Moreover, openings of the frame are not interrupted by the CPB. This is the most appealing feature of the proposed bracing system from architectural point of view.
The influence of process parameters in drawn wire on residual stresses was investigated. Based on a FE-simulation of the wire drawing process, the effects of process parameters such as semi-die angle, reduction, friction coefficient and bearing length on the residual stresses were investigated. The validity of the FE-simulation results was verified by the comparison of the previous simulated results with experimental data. In this study, semi-die angle and die reduction have significant effect on the residual stresses at the surface of drawn wire. Several methods such as, addition of axial tension, application of skin pass, straightening in multi-roll straightener etc, were suggested in the previous studies to reduce the residual stresses. In this study, the results show that the concurrent application of skin pass with low die reduction and low semi-die angle at the final stage of drawing operation reduces dramatically the both axial and hoop residual stresses after drawing
Lots of research works have been done to improve the accuracy of the hole drilling method to measure residual stress by many investigators. In this study, first, size effect of specimen was analyzed based on the solution of hole in a strip under tension. If the ratio of hole diameter tothe strip width is less than 0.2, the stress distribution around hold may be given from the solution of hole in an infinite plate. Second, the residual stress above $0.6{\sigma}_y$(yield stress) may be measured less than the actual stress by 10-15 percent. Third, eccentricity of hole relative to the rosette center effects on the accuracy of residual stress measurements by 10 percent. The error due to eccentricity of hole can be corrected by the iteration method or the direct method.

The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of welding residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behavior of cracks located transverse to the weld bead. For this purpose, G. T. A (Gas Tungsten Arc) welding was performed on hte Al alloy 1100-O plate and the same initial crack is made on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone), weld metal and base meta respectively. Specimens were used CT(Compact Tension) specimens. Initial welding residual stresses were measured by using strai gage sectioning method. All specimens were tested under constant amplitude load with stress ratio R=0.1, It is possible to predict fatigue crack growth behaviors and the fatigue life, using numerical analysis together with distribution of initial residual stress and the values of C and m obtained from $da/dN-{\Delta}K$
We got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room temperature and low temperature at $25^{circ}C$, $-60^{circ}C$, $-80^{circ}C$, and $-100^{circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. And there is a difference between shot peened specimen and unpeened specimen. The purpose of this study is to predict the behavior of fatigue crack propagation as one of fracture mechanics on the compressive residual stress. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peened metal was lower than that of unpeened metal. The compressive residual stress made an impact on tension and compression of the plasticity deformation in fatigue crack plasticity zone. That is. the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation.

The residual stress on drilled shafts is often neglected. Neglect of the existence of locked-in loads in the shaft is the main reason for conclusions of instrumented tests which suggest that shaft resistance is smaller when the shaft is loaded in tension than when it is loaded in compression. A few researchers studied the residual stress and mentioned that the residual stress is influenced by either the physical expansion/contraction of concrete during the curing or site stratigraphy. In this study, field measurements of residual stress on test shafts were conducted and the factors influencing the residual stress were figured out.
