From 1990s to the present, in China, residential communities has developed rapidly in terms of government policies and living environments. With economic development, dwelling commercialization and socialization gradually reshaped the housing distribution system and local government management in Chinese urban area. After this process, dwellings were endowed with commodity attributes, which were planned and designed depending on residents' requirements of life. During the 30 years of social transformation, Chinese citizens' lifestyle also had huge changes. In this period, the forms of residential area improved constantly to keep pace with social development. This study aims to research the features of contemporary communities and survey citizens' lifestyle changes to find the reasons of the evolution of communities. Moreover, in this paper, there is a clear explanation of the reasons why gated communities are popular in Chinese urban area. In addition, comprehensive data analysis is derived from a questionnaire administered in Shanghai, China. In this part, the questionnaire surveys what factors about lifestyle influence the transformation of living environments and residential buildings. The results of survey show that residents have housing preferences dependent on their lifestyles, and their daily needs related with environmental features.

The major results found that the characteristics of formative expression were ex-center, reiteration, dispersibility, diagonality, plasticity, non-linearity, and deconstruction. In addition to that, we derived various methods expressing the formative characteristics, which were mass transformation, plan variation and composition element transformation. Summing these results up, the various characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture are understood as the results of the free modeling will of architects fulfilled with the spirit of inquiry and experiment to escape from the standard architecture in order to differentiate themselves.
Low-rise Residential neighborhoods of Hongdae area, Garosu-gil, Samchung-dong, Itawon etc. are currently emerging new spaces for cultural consumption in the city. Nonetheless undiscerning excessive commercialization often results in monotonous urban space and deportation of residents and leaders of change; Due to commercialization and popularization recently this phenomenon is influencing surrounding low-rise residential neighborhoods. The main objective of this study is to examine how surrounding low-rise residential neighborhood transforms according to the expansion of culture-commerce spaces. Hongdae area's culture-commerce spaces and its expansion into Yeonnam-dong is investigated in specific. Especially attributes and main causes of transformation in physical and experiential space of neighborhood living facilities and residential buildings, when changed into culture-commerce related use is examined in detail. The expansion of culture-commerce space of Hongdae to Yeonnam-dong area has positive meaning in aspects of everyday experience. First, physical alteration of street-building relation increases direct and indirect contact of people. Contact opportunity carries important meaning in sense that it is prerequisite for next stage contact of network and exchange. Second, culture-commerce related programs provide the third place, where various leisure activities can take place. Attributes of transformation and positive meaning of culture-commerce spaces expanding its territory presents the need of management.
This study provides a descriptive and analytical account of major aspects of urban development and transformation of housing types of Italian Firenze from the 13th century to the 19th century. It is a typo-morphological depiction of urban spatial structure of the extraordinary city, Firenze, the center of Italian Renaissance. And this study has proceeded on the assumption that the evolving form of the urban structure and housing types cannot be understood without reference to the larger context of political, economic, and social life. Based on these backgrounds, the purpose of this study is threefold: to provide a comprehensive discussion of general characteristics of urban spatial structure of Firenze, and to explain the process of formation of working-class neighborhoods by constructing new city wall in later 13th century, and to discuss transformation of housing types of the working-class neighborhood with understanding the mechanism of existence of housing in the newly formed residential neighborhoods. The development of residential neighborhoods was pursued by 'planned' manner through forming square-shaped blocks, and characterized by the subdivision of larger properties into standardized building lots for the construction of houses. On the bases of documentary evidences, several ecclesiastical institutions are identified as the agents of a distinctive type of development. While the institutions did the major role for developing lands, the construction of houses was done by small scale construction agents with moderate amount of properties. The major housing type of working-class neighborhoods of Firenze has been the 'casa a schiera' characterized by the form of narrow front and long depth. The type was generalized by the newly formed middle and working-class of Firenze which grew their body very rapidly, Even though the type assumed very uniform in its fen there were many variations. And through passing time, the casa a schiera developed to be multi-family housing, and the level of variation became deepen. Eventually, transformation of housing type of Firenze was ended by appearance of the 'casa in linea', which was very similar to modern apartment in its spatial organization.
The structural change of occupational composition with the coming of post-industrial society is most evidently observed in the developed country. Specially representative of social changes is the emergence of new occupational sectors, such as the so-called quaternary and quinary sectors, which are based on the use of information technology and managerial skills. The paper raises the question of how and in what this chage of occupational components in a mtro area affects the existing residential structure over the period. In order to extend the discussion of the question, the related hypothetical statements on urban spatial impact due to transformation of the society have xtnsively considered and identified a possible multicenter structure concentration and deconcentration of new jobs and population over the metro area. For further examination, the renowned high tech city of Minneaplis -St. Paul has been selected and the occupational labour forces data for 1960 and 1980 analyzed. As a whole, this area has experienced a dispersal and reconcentration of population in new patterns which have resulted from changes in the occupational structure. In particular, the residential area of white-coller workers(the quaternary / quinary or information workers) has expanded into the city from a suburban core area. In this process, a large proportion of the manual-worker's residential areas in the central city either disappeared or diminished. Consequently, other isolated centers created by the manualworker residents are emerging in both the central city and suburbs. Thus, the development of mulitple centers or cores based on the distribution of occupational characteristics can be considered as a typical ongoing pattern of metro areas in the Unite States.
The vernacular houses with 田-shaped floor plan at Gangreung have been played important roles in tracing the vernacular living cultures including housing life. But due to the adoption of convenient facilities in vernacular housing lives caused by modernization and urbanization, many changes and transformations have happened at residential space of vernacular houses. This thesis targets to extract basic data to prepare and prevent various problems in process of renovation, extension and function change as installing housing life facilities, and to identify the changes and transformations of them to prepare the proper balances between their original form preservation and residents' convenience living. The results are as follows. The inner wall removal of rooms, the fuel change of cooking and heating, the leveling change of kitchen floor made possible the sedentary lifestyles. And its residential rooms were transformed from two row to one row by inner wall removal, the fuel heating change, the heating method change and the heat insulating materials. The residential extension materials were changed from the traditional materials such as soil, wood, etc to the modern materials such as cement block or brick, sandwich panel, etc. And the modern materials were used and attached to widen residential spaces to the vernacular house because of the easiness of execution. So, it is necessary for 田-shaped floor plan vernacular house owners to distribute printed execution guide book to prevent and minimize the various problems to be shown by extension, renovation and function change.
The development of human civilization has been accompanied by a corresponding development of storage facilities. In particular, the storage of residential spaces not only performs the storage management function for personal property but also is considered an important prerequisite for a comfortable life. The research is to track the morphological transformation of residential towers of apartment complexes in Busan. Though apartment is one of the most important components in Korean society, it has not drawn enough attention from academia as well as the public, especially regarding its shape. In result, its morphological change has barely been recognized. Instead, negative, but superficial, evaluation has become dominant tendency to deal with the shape of apartment tower. There are numerous 'partial' evidences to inform the morphological change of apartment plan type, and understanding the change is critical since morphological resultant reflects culture, politics, economy of a society. The research has been done on the 261 apartment complexes built through 2016 in Busan. The analysis shows that $I^0$ type, to represent 'typical boring architectural shape' of Korean apartments, has been dominant until the year 2000. However, its portion has become drastically decreased since the mid-2000. Composite plan type, the geometrical precedents of which had never been existent, emerged in the mid-2000, and this phenomenon may symbolize the change of morphology of apartment. When tower plan types are grouped together according to geometrical shape, three types, I-type, L-type and Y-type, take the most of residential towers, explaining 97% of the total. As expected, I-type is the most dominant, but its influence has decreased as time passes. Y-type might become one of the most important type in the period V. L-type has become the leading type in the Period VI to exceed I-type by 12 percent.
Both internally and externally environmental changes surround the rural areas such as rapid growth of the early-retired employee under the WTO, the Asian financial crisis in 1997, and the financial crisis in 2007 brought about much transformation in our rural residential environment. According to this changes and demands, the rural areas have been transformed from the area for farmer to the area for farmer and non farmer, that is, peoples that to leave the city to go back to farm or return to home village. Of this time, there needs a change in rural development policies which can make the urban residents migrate and settle in the rural areas as they are naturally embracing the rural life according to the social background and demand. In this point of view, we attempted, in this paper, to survey and analyze the changing trends of residential environment following the spatial composition with house types and rural villages in rural areas. The result of this study will be expected to be a reference for the direction of desirable residential environment in rural areas.
