Air Pollution and Life Satisfaction in Korea (한국의 대기오염과 생활만족도)

  • This study is to investigate causal relationship between individual life satisfaction and air pollution, using ordered probit model with the KLIPS panel dataset for 1998-2008. As determinants, both individual economic and socio-demographic characteristics are considered. Empirical results show that the degree of air pollution has negative effects on individual life satisfaction. The effects of other variables are similar to those of existing studies. This study found that life satisfaction increases along with income increase. However, at a certain point, the increase of life satisfaction becomes smaller even with an increase in income, indicating non-linear effect. It implies that the Easterlin's paradox can be applied to Korea's case. The increase of the other person's income measured by income per capita in the region where respondent resides has negative effects on life satisfaction. On the other hand, a person who has married, own house, stayed healthy, and highly been educated is likely to have higher life satisfaction. Additionally, a person with many household members, urban resident, unemployed or self-employed are negatively correlated with life satisfaction.

  • The trend toward more welfare living because of more leisure time has influenced the popularity of the community facilities in apartment housing. According to the residents' increasing interests for well-being life the changes and developments of the community facilities have been required in these days. The purpose of this research is to study these required changes and developments by analyzing the resident's using behavior of community facilities in apartment housing focusing on the educational and cultural facilities. For this purpose, this research intends to examine the existing conditions and problems of educational and cultural community facilities in apartment housing and to analyze the residents' using patterns such as frequency, preference and satisfaction and to comprehend the additional needs and requirements of the residents. The conclusions and suggestions of this research can be a basic data for the architects to design a resident-oriented educational and cultural community facilities.

A Study on Chinese Men's Awareness and Satisfaction on Korean Apparel Products (중국(中國) 남성(男性) 소비자(消費者)의 한국산(韓國産) 의류(衣類)패션 제품(製品)에 관(關)한 인지(認知)와 만족도(滿足度) 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese men's perception and satisfaction on Korean apparel products. The 1000 Questionnaires were distributed to Chinese men, and returned 863 questionnaires were analyzed by mean and percentage with SPSS 10.0. The results of this study were as follows: Chinese men had more perception on their own brand and Italy brand than UK, Korean, and Japan brand. Over age fifties of Chinese men preferred Korean brand to the other ages. Chinese men perceived positively Korean fashion products as more trendy, very creative, high-class, qualitative, expensive and creditable, otherwise, there were little famous brands among Koran apparel products. Chinese men satisfied on Korean apparel products positively, specially, age forties and fifties, resident from Harbin, income 2 and 3 level, and young casual mild group showed higher satisfaction on Korean apparel products than the others.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of Chinese perceptions of quality attributes on customer's satisfaction, revisit intention and recommendation intention for coffee shops in Beijing, China. Subjects of this study included 200 customers who had visited a coffee shop at least once during the last year. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS v23.0 and AMOS v21.0. In this study, the majority of customers visited a coffee shop once or twice a week with friends. Respondents preferred tall-sized warm coffee in the store. The coffee shop quality attributes of were derived from five exploratory factors identified upon analysis of 30 observational variables. It was important to maintain and strengthen the quality attributes of coffee shops in this area because IPA(Importance Performance Analysis) analysis showed that "Doing great, keep it well" part was a desirable area because it had high importance and performance. Finally, path analysis revealed that customer satisfaction was influenced by employee attitude and affected revisit intention and recommendation intention.

Adult′s Personality according to Residential Types in Seoul (서울지역 주거 유형별 거주자의 성격특성)

  • This study analyses the relationships between the residents'personality and the residential types, and between the sense of crowding and the residential types. For this purpose, this study surveys two hundred ninety three residents in their thirties and forties, residing in Seoul. We find that there are differences in the personality traits and also differences in the sense of crowding according to residential types such as high-rise/low-rise apartments, high-class private residence, multi-family houses. And these differences are due to the differences of inner and outer residential environment satisfaction. The lower a resident's inner environment satisfaction is, the higher is his/her sense of crowding. And low environment satisfaction and high sense of crowding appears to account for one's depression and anxiety. Conversely, the higher environment satisfaction is and the lower the sense of crowding is, the higher is his/her responsibility. Finally, this study tries to examine how each personality trait changes according to the habitancy duration. We find that residents having a 3-5 year habitancy record are more anxious and depressed than those who have been living more than 7 years in the same residence.

A Study on Billed Silvertown Residents' Satisfaction and Trust with Foodservice (유료실버타운 급식서비스의 만족과 신뢰에 관한 연구)

  • This study focused on the attribution factors affecting billed Silvertown residents' satisfaction and trust in relation to foodservice. Residents living in 'N' charged Silvertown were randomly selected for the study. Among them, 27 did not complete the survey, and a total of 143 questionnaires were analyzed. Data analyses were carried out using the frequency, factor analysis, cross tabs, and regression procedures of the SPSS 12.0 package. The results were as follows. First, for prospective Silvertown residents, among all the service offered, meals and medical services were of primary importance. Second, for Silertown foodservice, menu variety and taste were the most important aspects. Third, in the factor analysis for effects of foodservice on satisfaction and trust, the factor were restaurant facilities, food taste and quality, and restaurant operations. Fourth, in the relationship between the restaurant operation and residents' satisfaction levels, restaurant equipment, food taste and quality, and the resident's level of trust were significant. Finally, foodservice satisfaction and trust significantly affected residents' satisfaction with living in Silvertown.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find the priority of tourist destination remodeling among tourists, residents, sellers for Incheon's Chinatown. Our questionnaire is included satisfaction of convenience, accommodation and cultural facility and development direction of Incheon's Chinatown for all stakeholder. We also surveyed building control, satisfaction of implemented public service, demand of facility both resident and seller, except for tourist. The results represent each of stakeholder is different opinion about remodeling of Incheon's Chinatown. The tourist importantly considered tourism development. The resident and seller importantly considered historical, cultural development. However, all stakeholder commonly regarded convenience and cultural facility as priority for developing chinatown.

  • This case study is an effort to provide new knowledge on the U.S. elderly public housing focusing on the residents' perceptions of the environmental conditions. For this study, we conducted a survey using written questionnaires and interviews with 20 residents who rent in Columbia, MO. The recorded interview data was used for final analysis; primary findings are as follows: The residents reported relatively high satisfaction on their overall environmental conditions in the two target public housing, built in 1950s. As the most significant problem, residents perceive the lack of storage space for individual units, Partially attributed to space limitations. In addition, bathroom needs varied dramatically among residents based on their health and whether wheelchairs are used. Therefore, it was found that instead of standardized bathrooms, a customizable configuration for the resident's unique physical condition and accessibility must be considered. The residents also addressed their concerns about security for entrance and foyer areas. Due to the small living areas, they wanted to have available outdoor public space for various social activities. Furthermore, they reported the need for small social gathering areas while friends and family members are visiting them, in addition to their small living units, which average 49.8 sq. ft. each.

  • Under the influence of a paradigm shift for administrative service of public institutions in around the world, the 'Government Affairs Assessment Act' has been enacted in Korea in March 2006. By the law, each local governments have been obligating to conduct self-assessment and resident's satisfaction survey for improving administrative service. Thus, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the administrative service quality of district offices(in seoul) in order to meet the government's efforts, and to derive improvement point of administrative service quality in district office. Consequently, this study shows administrative service quality factors affecting resident's overall satisfaction degree, service value maturity and positive image maturity of district office and then, will explore improvement ways of each district office through attribute analysis of administrative service quality.

A Study on Shared House Living Conditions and Needs for Young Single-Person Household's Housing Welfare: Focus on the Resident and Potential Consumer for College Student of a Shared House (청년 1인 가구의 주거복지를 위한 쉐어하우스 거주 실태와 요구도: 입주자와 잠재 수요자 대학생을 중심으로)

  • The study finds a constructive way to improve shared houses by analyzing shared house living conditions, satisfaction of the residents and potential consumer's needs. For this, a survey of 179 single-person university residents and interviews with seven young adults residing in shared house was conducted. The results showed that shared house tenants had high satisfaction in regard to bedrooms, common spaces, and rental costs. They successfully adapted to community life by frequently using the living, dining spaces, and common spaces with respect and consideration towards other tenants by following rules. Single-person university household should prefer single rooms and the biggest consideration when they move into a shared house is rent. Affordable rates were 300,000 to 350,000 Korean Won per month (40.5%) and deposit of 3 million won or less (64.3%). Results also showed a need for a professional manager residing in the house with a cleaning service for common spaces and a want to share hobbies with other tenants (3.25/5 point scale). It is very important in a housing welfare perspective that one experiences the value of living and emotional sharing to heighten the satisfaction through shared houses. It is essential to put effort into developing a service that reflects consumer's needs for shared houses to continue as a housing alternative model for young adults.
