Wetland systems are widely accepted natural water purification systems around the world in nonpoint sources pollution control. Constructed wetlands have become a popular technology for treating contaminated surface and wastewater. In this study, the field experiment to reduce nonpoint source pollution loadings from polluted stream waters using wetland system was performed from June 2002 to March 2004, including winter performance using four newly constructed wetlands. The Dangjin stream water flowing into Seokmun estuarine lake was pumped into wetlands, and inflow and hydraulic residence time of the system was $500m^{3}{\~}1500m^{3}/day\;and\;2{\~}5$ days respectively. After 3 years operation plant-coverage was about $80~90\%$ from zero at initial stage even with no plantation. Average water quality of the influent in growing season was BOD_{5}\;3.96mg/L$, TSS 22.98 mg/L, T-N 3.29 mg/L, T-P 0.30 mg/L. The average removal rate of four wetlands for $BOD_{5},\;TSS,\;T-N\;and\;T-P$ in growing season was $24\%$, $62\%$, $54\%$, and $51\%$, respectively. And average water quality of the influent in winter season was $BOD_{5}$ 4.92 mg/L, TSS 12.47 mg/L, T-N 5.54 mg/L, and T-P 0.32 mg/L, respectively. The average removal rate of four wetlands for them was $-21\%$. $23\%$, $33\%$, and $53\%$, respectively. The reason of higher BOD_{5} effluent concentration in winter season might be that low temperature restrained microorganism activity and a organic body from the withered plant and algae was flown out. Except the result of $BOD_{5}$, the effectiveness of water quality improvement in winter season was satisfactory for treating polluted stream waters, and $BOD_{5}$ variation was within the range of background concentration. Performance of the experimental system was compared with existing data base (NADB), and it was within the range of general system performance. Overall, the wetland system was found to be satisfactory for NPS control such as improvement of polluted stream water.

The concept of the Slow City originates from the philosophy that seeks nature and a human-centric lifestyle. The objective of this study is to provide education for local residents in the socioeconomic traits of Slow City. For this study, 445 residents were surveyed about the concept of the Slow City. Using the survey results, t-test and regression analyses were conducted to find areas of improvement by considering the significance and effect level. The purpose of this study is to suggest a strategy of education for local residents based on the effect of socioeconomic traits on the residents' attitude and education satisfaction. The findings showed that local residence is more influential on the residents' attitude than age, income and education and that the number of participations in the education did not affect education satisfaction. This result suggests that more reinforced and improved local resident education should be offered for the Slow City education of residents. This study provides a convenient set of indicators for a strategic focus to develop education programming and policy for Slow City residents.

Due to the enlargement and high-rise of reinforced concrete structure, the application of high functional material is required. However, high-strength bar is recently introduced to the country and the material is insufficient to measure the variation of quantity of rebar quantitatively when using high-strength bar. For these reasons, this study is to provide useful data in cost decision making when applying high-strength bar at a stage of architectural project planning. For residence-commerce complex buildings, we set up six types of conditions such as in case of using only rebar, in case of using only high-strength bar, in case of using rebar mixed with high-strength bar and so on. With the standard of study model 1 that applies only SD400 regardless of rebar diameter, the analyzed result of rebar variation and the cost change of construction in other study model is as follows. When the rebar amount and cost in study model I was 100%, each ratio was 88.3% and 90.5% in study model II, 80.2% and 83.4% in study model III, 91.9% and 93.5% in study model IV, 88.9% and 87.7% in study model V and 82.4% and 85.5% in study model VI. Therefore, in case of rebar amount and construction cost, study model III was evaluated as the best that was applied only SD600.

The purpose of this study is to expand a prospect of a few-remaining Byeolseo scenic sites of Gangwon-do(Province) through determining placeness formation, prospect characteristics, and landscape meanings of Gumi(Nine beauties) and Sipalgyung(18 scenic views) in Gumijeongsa. Gumijeongsa, which is located in a riverside of the Goljicheon(stream), a part of upstream of Namhangang, is the oldest existing Nujung architecture in the Jeongseon area. This study tried to unearth the Gumijonegsa's locational and formational characteristics through literature review and a field survey. Especially, through the field survey, this study tried to figure out the landscape meanings and contents of Gumi and Sipalgyung by Gumijeongsa's position and its prospect compositions. As a result of this study, Gumi and Sipalgyung of Gumijeongsa are variations of typical traditional culture of Gugok(Nine river bends) and Palgyung(Eight scenic views). Ja Lee, the founder, administrated Gumijeongsa as a core residence of Gugok culture. He established beautiful nine viewpoints from the building, named Gumi, and added 18 detailed landscapes(two landscapes for one beauties), instead of establishing nine river bends of the stream. The Gumi and Sipalgyung are formed by reflection of beautiful locational characteristics from the views in Gumijeongsa, thus the Gumi is the concept which is a unique variation of Gugok and Palgyung culture.

Seokgasan(石假山) is originated in Goryeo, is a Korean traditional technique handed down to Joseon and Seokgasan is the Korean creative culture of gardening by artificial stones, which replicates small artificial mountain of natural landscape in the garden. The object of this study is Seokgasan made by Seong-im(成任), who was a civil minister in Joseon and lived from 1421 to 1484, in his residence located in Inwang Mountain, Hanyang and the purpose of this study is to investigate the historical meaning and symbol of Seokgasan made by Seong-im on the base of the relative old literatures and embody its shape and structure. According to the result of this study on Seokgasan of Seong-im, it can find out some facts as follows; Seokgasan of Seong-im in the early Joseon succeeded to the structural form of Seokgasan of the artificial rock mountain type connected pond, which was made-up firstly in the garden of the Palace of Manwoldae in the Middle Goryeo, and it was called firstly as 'Seokgasan' in the garden of Seong-im's house. Seong-im's Seokgasan in the early Joseon had more concentrated philosophical meanings, including the idea of taoist immortal, than those in the Goryeo dynasty and was be emblematic of an imaginative space. Also there were lots of gardens modeled on the famous mountains and famous lakes in China much the same as the Goryeo dynasty. In addition, there was an exceptional purpose for building Seokgasan which could not be found in the Goryeo dynasty. That was practicality for emotional stability and cure. Seong-im's Seokgasan is record-relics with high value of landscape architecture history, which can identify its historical meanings, shapes and structural frames succeeded from the Goryeo dynasty.
Since 2005, Cyber home learning systems(CHLS) have been run with the purpose of clearing up the regional disparity and reducing the private education cost. At this point, it is necessary to have the analysis on the satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS. The goal of this paper is to suggest an evaluation model for satisfaction and pedagogical effectiveness of CHLS and to support the management of satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Our major contributions can be summarized as follows: First, we present an evaluation model of satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Second, we survey the satisfaction, effectiveness awareness and improvement facts from the students who divided according to their sex, residence area and classes and compare with suggesting evaluation models. This paper is to find the measurement of the satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Furthermore, we can use this model as a material to balance the education opportunity, which is the purpose of CHLS, and abolish the education differentials.
Purpose: This study aims to set up the classification system for providing infill information and draw detailed infill information required by suppliers, thereby promoting the revitalization of long-life housing and utilizing such information as preliminary data for establishing web system, on which infill information required by users in the long-life housing design process are available. Method: For the method of study, the infill information classification system and detailed information were drawn through the analysis of existing building material information systems; and the survey targeting working-level personnel was carried out in order to verify the drawn information system. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the hierarchical classification system (scheme) was selected by quoting the classification system by material type as infill type, after analyzing existing DB information systems and drawing the hierarchical classification system for infill. Second, the comparative analysis between infill was available to users for the detailed infill information of long-life housing, and the essential information and general information were selected for differentiating information. Results: First, the hierarchical classification system (scheme) was selected by quoting the classification system by material type as infill type, after analyzing existing DB information systems and drawing the hierarchical classification system for infill. Second, the comparative analysis between infill was available to users for the detailed infill information of long-life housing, and the essential information and general information were selected for differentiating information. Third, only approximately 30% of the survey respondents recognized the infill of long-life housing, but they did not recognize its difference from existing building materials. Fourth, through the analysis of paths to obtain infill information of long-life housing, it was confirmed that infill information was obtained mostly through books and research papers regarding long-life housing, followed by the existing information systems. The significance of the study lies in that it is differentiated from the previous information system as the information system specialized in the infill of long-life housing was established, and can be used as a measure to revitalize long-life housing market.
Korea has been recently reducing the quality of life as well as rising medical cost because of the increase of chronic diseases. But we can prevent those chronic diseases through the improvement of environment or life style. We evaluated the educational effectiveness of chronic diseases(hypertention, diabetes, cancer, stroke and other chronic diseases) designed to increase the knowledge, attitude and practice of chronic diseases among university students. Between August 1994 and November 1994, we implemented chronic diseases prevention instruction in intervention students; unmatched control students were selected in same university. We conducted pre- and post-intervention surveys both intervention and control students with self-reported questionnaires(50 items). We assigned score(0-4 points) to items and conducted a analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) with sex, grade and economic status as the covariate, using the SAS PC computer statistical package. And we culculated odds ratio with safety scores between intervention and control students. The results of this study were followed. 1. In demographic characteristics of subjects both pre- and post intervention, we found no significant differences in intervention and control students at religion, father's education, mother's education, mother's occupation and type of residence(p>0.05), but we found significant differences at sex(p<0.001), grade(p<0.001) and economic status(p<0.05). 2. The sex, grade and economic status-adjusted mean prevention knowledge scores for diabetes and stroke increased from the pre- to post-survey in the intervention students(p<0.001), but control students did not increased(p>0.05). As odds ratios in knowledge were below 1, the knowledge of intervention students were higher than control students. 3. The attitudes for general adult health increased from the pre- to post-survey in the intervention students(p<0.05), but control students did not increased(p>0.05). As odds ratios in attitudes were approximately 1, we can not say effectiveness in intervention students 4. The pratices for cancer and stroke increased from the pre- to post-survey in both the intervention and control students(p<0.001). Also odds ratio of hypertention was 0.91, and that of stroke was 1.14. 5. Health related behaviors did not increased from the pre- to post- survey in both the intervention and control students(p>0.05). But odds ratio of drinking was 0.76 and that of body weight was 1.21. 6. Health status did not increased from the pre- to post- survey in both the intervention and control students(p>0.05). As odds ratio of health status was 1.09, prevention education was not effect in intervention students We would like to recommend as follows; 1. University students must learn about prevention of chronic diseases. Because the knowledge of invetervention students was higher than that of control students. 2. The prevention education of chronic diseases should be taught from primary school. 3. Adult health education for university students must be practiced continuously. Education period(l5 weeks) in this study was not complete. 4. The evaluation of chronic diseases was conducted real measurement(such as BP check) as well as self reported-survey. 5. Educational materials(video tape, pamphlet) related the prevention of chronic diseases should be developed at national level. And we must easely use those materials. 6. The prevention education of chronic diseases should be made through mass media as well as school education.
A particle tracking scheme was developed in order to model radionuclide transport through a tortuous flow Held in a rock fracture. The particle tacking method may be used effectively in a heterogeneous flow field such as rock fracture. The parallel plate representation of the single fracture fails to recognize the spatial heterogeneity in the fracture aperture and thus seems inadequate in describing fluid movement through a real fracture. The heterogeneous flow field une modeled by a variable aperture channel model after characterizing aperture distribution by a hydraulic test. To support the validation of radionuclide transport models, a radionuclide migration experiment was performed in a natural fracture of granite. $^3$$H_2O$ and $^{131}$ I are used as tracers. Simulated results were in agreement with experimental result and therefore support the validity of the transport model. Residence time distributions display multipeak curves caused by the fast arrival of solutes traveling along preferential fracture channels and by the much slower arrival of solutes following tortous routes through the fracture. Results from the modelling of the transport of nonsorbing tracer through the fracture show that diffusion into the interconnected pore space in the rock mass has a significant effect on retardation.

The Korean government designated 10 innovation cities throughout the country in 2005 in order to resolve concentration on the capital region and to promote balanced development of localities. An innovation city is a future-type city equipped with environment for innovation and high-quality settlement environment in terms of residence, education and culture by accommodating public institutions and facilitating close cooperation among companies, universities and research institutes. Thus, for the early settlement and activation of innovation cities, this study suggested a plan to operate the current innovation city business centers from a mid- and long-term viewpoint rather than for a limited time. Through this study, we attempt to establish the roles of the centers so that they can play central roles in the move of public institutions, the development of industry-university-research institute clusters, the creation of innovations, and the spread of innovations, which are the goals of the development of public institutions, after the sites have been prepared.
