  • The paper presents a summary of the multidisciplinary/optimization method for the preliminary design of container feeder vessel. The current scenario in the ship building industry highly focuses on container ship design and construction proving the inherent demand in maritime industry. The design accomplishes the outer circle of the design spiral giving stress in areas of Hull Form Design, Resistance & Propulsion. Empirical relations, model test results, data from built ships, class rules and latest market demands stood as the criteria for the design. Optimization of the design as per the owners requirement. class rules, and the trade route selected are the major challenges met with. Strength. reliability, structural safety and stability have been incorporated in compromising standards.

  • SOA (Service Oriented Architecture)를 기반으로 하는 소프트웨어는 비즈니스 요구사항에 기민하게 대응할 수 있어 사용이 확대되고 있다. SOA는 느슨한 서비스 결합과 메시지 교환 중심 아키텍처라는 특징 때문에 기존의 테스팅 방법 적용이 제한된다. 본 논문에서는 BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation)을 이용해 테스트 케이스를 생성하는 기법을 제안한다. 먼저 프로세스를 모델링하고, 이를 통해 비즈니스 흐름 그래프(BFG)를 생성한다. BFG의 입출력 차수를 대칭하고, 오일러 경로를 탐색하여 테스트 케이스를 생성한다. BPMN을 이용한 테스트 케이스 생성 기법은 SOA 기반 시스템에 적용 가능하며, 테스트 케이스 수를 감소시킬 수 있다.

  • In this paper, we have modeled and evaluated a new parallel processing system called Scalable Parallel computer Architecture based on Xbar (SPAX) for commercial applications. SMP systems are widely used as servers for commercial applications; however, they have very limited scalability. SPAX cost-effectively overcomes the SMP limitation by providing both scalability and application portability. To investigate whether the new architecture satisfies the requirements of commercial applications, we have built a system model and a workload model. The results of the simulation study show that the I/O subsystem becomes the major bottleneck. We found that SPAX can still meet the I/O requirement of the OLTP workload as it supports flexible I/O subsystem. We also investigated what will be the next most important bottleneck in SPAX and how to remove it. We found that the newly developed system network called Xcent-Net will not be a bottleneck in the I/O data path. We also show the optimal configuration that is to be considered for system tuning.

  • 레거시 시스템을 새로운 하드웨어 플랫폼과 새로운 소프트웨어 개발 패러다임에 맞도록 이주하려는데 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 그 이유는 레거시 시스템의 유지보수에 많은 비용이 들고 기존 시스템에 대한 문서 정보가 부족하다는데 있다. 레거시 시스템을 새로운 시스템을 변환하기 위해 스크린 스크래핑, 래핑, 부분 변환, 재개발 등등의 여러 다양한 접근법들과 도구, 그리고 방법론들이 제시되어왔다. 그러나 이러한 접근법들은 대부분이 코드 변환 혹은 일부 모델 변환 수준이기 때문에 아키텍처나 요구사항 수준에서의 변환까지는 체계적으로 제시하지 못하였다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 이러한 한계점을 극복하기 위하여 아키텍처와 요구사항 단계까지 적용할 수 있는 3차원 공간 개념을 적용한 메타 모델 기반의 접근법을 제시하고자한다. 이러한 통합 모델은 재 공학에 있어서 역 공학 단계인 코드에서 아키텍처 그리고 순 공학 단계인 아키텍처에서 코드로의 자연스러운 변환 혹은 협력 진화(Co-evoluton)를 유도한다.

  • 인터넷 기술과 웹 기반 응용 프로그램의 발전으로 광역 분산처리에 대한 요구가 기하급수적으로 증대되고 있다. 이러한 광역 분산처리 환경의 요구사항에 적용할 수 있는 모델로 모바일 에이전트를 들 수 있다. 그러나 현재의 모바일 에이전트 모델은 여러 가지 기술적 제약점들을 가지고 있다. 모바일 에이전트가 광역 분산 처리 환경에서 사용되기 위하여 필요한. 모바일 에이전트 시스템의 구조와 사용되는 프로그래밍 패러다임과 사용 기술 등에 있어서의 문제점들을 분석하였다.

  • Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is a complex and large system in which there are many subsystems, interfaces, functions and demanding performance requirements. Because many contractors participate in the development, it is necessary to apply methods of sharing common objectives and communicating effectively among all of the stakeholders. This paper shows not only the methodology and the results of computer-aided systems engineering including requirement management, functional analysis and architecting LRT system, but also propose a tool to help manage a project by linking WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), work organization and PBS (Product Breakdown Structure). The application of computer-aided tool RDD-100 provides the capability to model product design knowledge and decisions about important issues such as architecting the top-level system. The product design knowledge will be essential in integrating the following life-cycle phase activities over the life of the LRT system. Additionally, when a new generation train system is required, the reuse of the database can increase the system design productivity and effectiveness significantly.

Longitudinal static stability requirements for wing in ground effect vehicle

  • The issue of the longitudinal stability of a WIG vehicle has been a very critical design factor since the first experimental WIG vehicle has been built. A series of studies had been performed and focused on the longitudinal stability analysis. However, most studies focused on the longitudinal stability of WIG vehicle in cruise phase, and less is available on the longitudinal static stability requirement of WIG vehicle when hydrodynamics are considered: WIG vehicle usually take off from water. The present work focuses on stability requirement for longitudinal motion from taking off to landing. The model of dynamics for a WIG vehicle was developed taking into account the aerodynamic, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces, and then was analyzed. Following with the longitudinal static stability analysis, effect of hydrofoil was discussed. Locations of CG, aerodynamic center in pitch, aerodynamic center in height and hydrodynamic center in heave were illustrated for a stabilized WIG vehicle. The present work will further improve the longitudinal static stability theory for WIG vehicle.

상태감시컴포넌트를 사용한 OPRoS 프레임워크의 고장감내 기법 (State-Monitoring Component-based Fault-tolerance Techniques for OPRoS Framework)

  • The OPRoS (Open Platform for Robotic Services) framework is proposed as an application runtime environment for service robot systems. For the successful deployment of the OPRoS framework, fault tolerance support is crucial on top of its basic functionalities of lifecycle, thread and connection management. In the previous work [1] on OPRoS fault tolerance supports, we presented a framework-based fault tolerance architecture. In this paper, we extend the architecture with component-based fault tolerance techniques, which can provide more simplicity and efficiency than the pure framework-based approach. This argument is especially true for fault detection, since most faults and failure can be defined when the system cannot meet the requirement of the application functions. Specifically, the paper applies two widely-used fault detection techniques to the OPRoS framework: 'bridge component' and 'process model' component techniques for fault detection. The application details and performance of the proposed techniques are demonstrated by the same application scenario in [1]. The combination of component-based techniques with the framework-based architecture would improve the reliability of robot systems using the OPRoS framework.

최적화 기법을 이용한 부유식 해양 플랜트 상부 구조의 다층 배치 모델 (Multi-floor Layout Model for Topsides of Floating Offshore Plant using the Optimization Technique)

  • For a floating offshore plant such as FPSO(Floating, Production, Storage, and Off-loading unit), various equipment should be installed in the restricted space, as compared with an onshore plant. The requirement for an optimal layout method of the plant has been increased in these days. Thus, a layout method of the floating offshore plant was proposed in this study. For this, an optimization problem for layout design was mathematically formulated, and then an optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm was implemented with C++ language in order to solve it. Finally, the proposed method was applied to an example of FPSO topsides. As a result, it was shown that the proposed method can be applied to layout design of the floating offshore plant such as FPSO.

Undergraduate courses for enhancing design ability in naval architecture

  • Contemporary lectures in undergraduate engineering courses typically focus on teaching major technical knowledge-based theories in a limited time. Therefore, most lectures do not allow the students to gain understanding of how the theories are applied, especially in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering departments. Shipyards require students to acquire practical ship design skills in undergraduate courses. To meet this requirement, two lectures are organized by the authors; namely, "Planning Procedure of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering" (PNAOE) and "Innovative Ship Design" (ISD). The concept of project-based and collaborative learning is applied in these two lectures. In the PNAOE lecture, sophomores receive instruction in the designing and building of model ships, and the students' work is evaluated in a model ship contest. This curriculum enables students to understand the concepts of ship design and production. In the ISD lecture, seniors learn how to develop their creative ideas about ship design and communicate with members of group. They are encouraged to cooperate with others and understand the ship design process. In the capstone design course, students receive guidance to facilitate understanding of how the knowledge from their sophomore or junior classes, such as fluid mechanics, statics, and dynamics, can be applied to practical ship design. Students are also encouraged to compete in the ship design contest organized by the Society of Naval Architects of Korea. Moreover, the effectiveness of project-based and collaborative learning for enhancing interest in the shipbuilding Industry and understanding the ship design process is demonstrated by citing the PNAOE and ISD lectures as examples.
