  • Equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations in a canonical ensemble are performed to evaluate the transport coefficients of several Lennard-Jones (LJ) mixtures at a liquid argon states of 94.4 K and 1 atm via modified Green-Kubo formulas. Two component mixture of A and B is built by considering the interaction between A and A as the attractive (A) potential, that between A and B as the attractive potential (A), and that between B and B as the repulsive potential (R), labelled as AAR mixture. Three more mixtures - ARA, ARR, and RAR are created in the same way. The behavior of the LJ energy and the transport properties for all the mixtures is easily understood in terms of the portion of attractive potential (A %). The behavior of the thermal conductivities by the translational energy transport due to molecular motion exactly coincides with that of diffusion constant while that of the thermal conductivities by the potential energy transport due to molecular motion is easily understood from the fact that the LJ energy of AAR, ARR, and RAR mixtures increases negatively with the increase of A % from that of the pure repulsive system while that of ARA changes rarely.

  • In this work, we extend the previously developed split kinetic energy (dubbed KEP) method by Mineo and Chao (2012) by modifying the mass parameter to include the negative mass. We first show how to separate the total system into the subsystems with 3 attractive delta potentials by using the KEP method. For repulsive delta potentials, we introduce "negative" mass terms. Two cases are demonstrated using the "negative" mass terms for repulsive delta potential problems in quantum mechanics. Our work shows that the KEP solution scheme can be used to obtain not only the exact energies but also the exact wavefunctions very precisely.

  • This paper proposes a novel type of tactile device utilizing magnetorheological(MR) fluid which can be applicable for haptic master of minimally invasive surgery(MIS) robotic system. The salient feature of the controllability of rheological properties by the intensity of the magnetic field(or current) makes this potential candidate of the tactile device. As a first step, an appropriate size of the tactile device is designed and manufactured via magnetic analysis. Secondly, in order to determine proper input magnetic field the repulsive forces of the real body parts such as hand and neck are measured. Subsequently, the repulsive forces of the tactile device are measured by dividing 5 areas. The final step of this work is to obtain desired force in real implementation. Thus, in order to demonstrate this goal a neuro-fuzzy logic is applied to get the desired repulsive force and the error between the desired and actual force is evaluated.

  • This paper proposes a synthesis of new guidance law to generate an evasive maneuver against enemy's missile interception while considering its impact angle, acceleration, and field-of-view constraints. The first component of the synthesis is a new function of repulsive Artificial Potential Field to generate the evasive maneuver as a real-time dynamic obstacle avoidance. The terminal impact angle and terminal acceleration constraints compliance are based on Time-to-Go Polynomial Guidance as the second component. The last component is the Logarithmic Barrier Function to satisfy the field-of-view limitation constraint by compensating the excessive total acceleration command. These three components are synthesized into a new guidance law, which involves three design parameter gains. Parameter study and numerical simulations are delivered to demonstrate the performance of the proposed repulsive function and guidance law. Finally, the guidance law simulations effectively achieve the zero terminal miss distance, while satisfying an evasive maneuver against intercept missile, considering impact angle, acceleration, and field-of-view limitation constraints simultaneously.

  • This paper describes power potential field method for the collision-free path planning of stereo-vision based mobile robot. Area based stereo matching is performed for obstacle detection in uncertain environment. The repulsive potential is constructed by distributing source points discretely and evenly on the boundaries of obstacles and superposing the power potential which is defined so that the source potential will have more influence on the robot than the sink potential when the robot is near to source point. The mobile robot approaches the goal point by moving the robot directly in negative gradient direction of the main potential. We have investigated the possibility of power potential method for the collision-free path planning of mobile robot through various experiments.

  • In this paper, a real-time collision avoidance algorithm is proposed for experimental Autonomous Vehicle(XAV). To ensure real-time implementation, a virtual potential field is calculated in one dimensional space. The attractive force is generated by the steering command either transmitted in the remote control station or calculated in the Autonomous Navigation System(ANS) of the XAV. The repulsive force is generated by obstacle information obtained from Laser Range Finder(LRF) mounted on the XAV. Using these attractive and repulsive forces, modified steering, velocity and emergency stop commands are created to avoid obstacles and follow a planned path. The suggested algorithm is inserted as one component in the XAV system. Through various real experiments and technical demonstration using the XAV, the usefulness and practicality of the proposed algorithm are verified.

  • Some methods have been presented to avoid collisions among satellites for satellite formation flying mission. The potential function method based on Lyapunov's theory is known as a powerful tool for collision avoidance in the robotic system because of its robustness and flexibility. During the last decade, a potential function has also been applied to UAV's and spacecraft operations, which consists of repulsive and attractive potential. In this study, the controller is designed using a potential function via sliding mode technique for the configuration of satellite formation flying. The strategy is based on enforcing the satellite to move along the gradient of a given potential function. The new scalar velocity function is introduced such that all satellites reach the goal points simultaneously. Simulation results show that the controller drives the satellite toward the desired point along the gradient of the potential function and is robust against external disturbances.

  • In this paper, potential field algorithm was used for path planning in dynamic environment. This algorithm is used to plan a robot path because of its elegant mathematical analysis and simplicity. However, there are some problems. The problems are problem of collision risk, problem of avoidance path, problem of time consumption. In order to solve these problems, we fused potential field with fuzzy system. The input of the fuzzy system is set using relative velocity and location of robot and obstacle. The output of the fuzzy system is set using the weighting factor of repulsive potential function. The potential field algorithm is improved by using fuzzy potential field algorithm and, path planning in various environment has been done.
