The present study assessed the reliability-based reinforcement ratio of FRP reinforced concrete structure applying recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) concrete. The statistical characteristics of FRP bars and RCA concrete were investigated from the previous literatures and the mean value and standard deviation were employed for the reliability analysis. The statistics can be regarded as the material uncertainty for configuring the probability distribution model. The target bridge structure is the railway bridge with double T-beam section. The replacement ratios of RCA were 0%, 30%, 50%, and 100%. From the probability distribution analysis, the reliability-based reinforcement ratios of FRP bars were assessed with four cases according to the replacement ratio of RCA. The reinforcement ratio of FRP bars at RCA 100% showed about 17.3% higher than the RCA 0%, where the compressive strength at RCA 100% decreased up to 27.5% than RCA 0%. It was found that the decreased effect of the compressive strength of RCA concrete could be compensated with increase of the reinforcement ratio of FRP bars. This relationship obtained by the reliability analysis can be utilized as a useful information in structural design for FRP bar reinforced concrete structures applying RCA concrete.
The effects of blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, and reinforcing fiber on the physical and mechanical properties of porous concrete using blast furnace slag coarse aggregates have been evaluated in this study. The effect of the depending on replacement ratio of blast furnace slag to cement was investigated such that the replacement ratio was varied to 0 %, 25 % and 50 %. Also, the replacement ratios of hwang-toh were 0, 20 and 30 %. The polyvinyl alcohol fiber was used for the reinforcing fiber. A series of pH, unit mass, and void ratio tests have been performed to study the physical properties of the porous concrete using blast furnace slag coarse aggregates with the polyvinyl alcohol fiber and the replacement ratios of blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, while a series of compressive tests have been performed to evaluate the strength property depending on polyvinyl alcohol fiber and the replacement ratios of blast furnace slag, hwang-toh. The test results indicated that the physical and mechanical properties of porous concrete using blast furnace slag coarse aggregates is affected by the replacement ratio of blast furnace slag, and the fiber contents. According to the tests with polyvinyl alcohol fiber contents, the void ratio was decreased and the compressive strength was upgraded.
In this research, the physical properties of self compacting concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag as a part of cement were investigated. Concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag was prepared with various ground granulated blast furnace slag replacement(20~80 volume %) for cement and the quantities of coarse aggregate in concrete were 50%, 55% and 60% of ratio of absolute volume of coarse aggregate. The workability, flowing characteristics, air content and compressive strength of concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag were tested and the results were compared with those of ordinary portland cement concrete. In the experiment, we acquired satisfactory results at the point of flowing characteristics and strengths of concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag within tile replacement ratio of 50% and the optimum quantity of coarse aggregate in concrete was found to be 50%~55% of ratio of absolute volume of coarse aggregate.
The most of waste foundry sands(WFS) have been discarded. It is very urgent for our country to make a study on recycling of WFS. The one of recycling method of WFS is using them as fine aggregate for concrete. This study provided the optimum amount of WFS and flyash when WFS and flyash were used together in concrete. The concrete made with 60% WFS fine aggregate replacement showed higher compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity than normal concrete. In the case that the flyash and WFS are replaced together, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength were improved at flyash replacement ratio $10%{\sim}20%$ and WFS replacement ratio $40%{\sim}60%$. The increase of WFS and flyash replacement led lower air content. While the increase of WFS replacement led lower slump, the increase of flyash replacement led higher slump.
This experimental study is to evaluate the effects of recycled coarse aggregate replacement level on the mechanical properties of concrete produced at Batcher plant. The main test parameter was replacement level of recycled coarse aggregate with the ratio of 0, 30, 60 and 100% to the natural coarse aggregate. From the test results, it was found that compressive strength, elastic modulus and splitting strength are decreased with the increased proportion of replacement level. Therefore, some design coefficients or recommendations for elastic modulus and splitting strength of concrete need to be reconsidered with minor reduction factor of '0.85'.
Recently, because of the increase of management system about waste concrete and the policy of recycling promotion of government, the use of recycled aggregate is rapidly increasing nowadays. But, due to the poverty of quality and the lack of KS standard, the use of recycled fine aggregate is not active. Therefore, it was intended to compare and investigate effects which types of sand and replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregate. As the result of this study, in the case of the recycled replacement ratio of 25$\%$, fresh and engineering properties were higher than those of natural fing aggregates with the exception of durability. Also, because quality according to types of fine aggregate shows the difference between various properties, it was considered that the profound study for this result would be necessary.
The objective of this study is to investigate the properties of fresh concrete with recycled fine aggregates. Three different kinds of fine aggregate with natural, high and low quality recycled aggregates were prepared. The concrete mixtures were produced with test parameters of replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregate. The properties of the fresh concrete were measured by means of slump and air content according to elapsed time. Quality control method to maintain the constant total mixing water for recycled aggregate concrete was suggested. The all concrete mixtures were produced with approximately the same slump on the job site after an hour. Test results indicated that compressive strength of the concrete mixtures with constant slump is not affected by the replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregate. Therefore, the practical way for the quality control of recycled aggregate concrete is to maintain the constant total mixing water.
Disposal of industrial waste in cities where municipal authorities permitting higher floor area ratio coupled with increasing living standards, a lot of demolition waste is being generated. Its disposal is a challenge particularly in megacities where no landfills are available. The ever-increasing cost of building construction materials also necessitates consuming demolition wastes in a useful manner to save fresh natural raw materials. In the present work, the crushed waste glass is used in high-strength concrete as a partial replacement of fine aggregate. The control concrete of grade M60 was proportioned following BIS 10262-2009. The crushed waste glass has been used as a partial replacement with varying percentages of 10, 20, 30, and 40% by weight of fine aggregate. Experimental tests were carried on the fresh and hardened state of the concrete. The effect of crushed waste glass on the workability of the concrete has been investigated. Non-destructive tests, acid attack tests, compressive strength, split tensile strength, and X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out for the control concrete and concrete containing crushed waste glass after 7, 28, and 270 days of normal curing. The results show that for the same w/c ratio, the workability of concrete increases with increasing replaced crushed waste glass content. However, the decrease in compressive strength of the concrete after 28 days of normal curing and further after 28 days of acid attacks, up to 30% replacement level of fine aggregate by the crushed waste glass is insignificant.
Recently, the coal-ash production has been increased by increase of consumption of electric power. So it is important to secure a reclaimed land from pollution and develop practical application of coal ash. This is an experimental study to compare and analyze the properties of concrete using high volume of coal ash (including fly ash and bottom ash) as a part of fine aggregate. For this purpose, the mix proportions of concrete according to replacement ratio of coal ash (10, 20, 35, 50%) were selected. And then air content, slump, setting time, bleeding content, chloride content, compressive strength and carbonation test were performed. According to test results, it was found that the bleeding content of concrete using the coal ash decreased according to increase of replacement ratio. And the chloride content of concrete using the bottom ash as a part of fine aggregate increased as the replacement ratio of bottom ash increased, but it is satisfied with the total chloride content of concrete recommended by KCI - $0.3kg/m^3$ below. Also, the compressive strength of concrete using the bottom ash was similar to that of plain concrete(BA 0) after 28days of curing and the carbonation depth of concrete increased as the replacement ratio increased. However, the carbonation depth of concrete using the fly ash decreased as the replacement ratio of fly ash increased.
