  • This paper considers a Bayesian approach to replacement policy model with minimal repair. We use the criterion based on the expected cost and the expected downtime to determine the optimal replacement period. To do so, we obtain the expected cost rate per unit time and the expected downtime per unit time, respectively. When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established to formally express and update the uncertain parameters for determining an optimal maintenance policy. Especially, the overall value function suggested by Jiagn and Ji(2002) is applied to obtain the optimal replacement period. The numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • The research has been done to obtain a empirical equation for the depth of replacement by the analysis of data collected from 8 sea-dike construction sites of south coast of Korean peninsula. The correlation analysis results show that the depth of replacement was mainly dependent upon the height of embankment and the undrained shear strength of soft soil. The suggested regression equation was quite well predicted the depth of replacement and recommended to use under certain restrictions where the embankment height was less than 10m and under 0.2 kgf/cm^{2} of the undrained shear strength of soil.

  • Between Dec. 1984, and May, 1988,96 prostheses were implanted in 80 patients at Dept. of Thoracic k Cardiovascular Surgery of National Medical Center. 43 patients had mitral valve replacement, 21 underwent aortic valve replacement, and 15 had double valve replacement [Mitral k Aortic], and 1 had tricuspid valve replacement. Seventy-one cases [88.8 %] were in NYHA Class III or IV. The mean duration of follow up was 22.1 months and follow-up information was available for 74 [92.5 %] of the patients. The overall actuarial survival rate at 45 months was 93.05 % and overall hospital mortality was 10 %, late Mortality was 5 %. The linearlized incidence of thromboembolism [2.4%/pt-yr], thrombotic valve obstruction [1.6 %/pt-yr], anticoagulant related bleeding [0.8 %/pt-yr]. There were no fatal valve related complications. The blood was studied in 40 patients 1 year after valve operation. Hgb and reticulocyte count were within normal values and Serum LDH value was slightly elevated but it was not of clinical significance. In conclusion, Monostrut Bjork-Shiley valve prosthesis to be a reliable valve substitute with an acceptable incidence of complications.

  • In the preventive replacement policies of system that the failure can be detected through only periodic inspection, there is a penalty cost associated with the lapsed time between system failure and its detection. The system under study is replaced if the system fails before $n^{th}$ inspection, otherwise, preventive replacement is performed at the $n^{th}$ inspection. The decision variables are the inspection interval and the period of preventive replacement. This study presents the optimal preventive replacement policy that minimizes the long-run expected cost per unit time.

  • This paper presents a periodic replacement policy for a system subject to shocks when the system is operating for a finite random horizon. The system is subject to shocks during operation, and each shock causes downgrading of the system performance and makes it more expensive to run by the additional running cost. Shocks arrive according to a nonhomogeneous or a renewal process, and we develop periodic replacement policies under a finite random operating horizon. The optimum periodic replacement interval which minimizes the total operating cost during the horizon is found. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the results.

  • This study In order to reduce the amount of cement that generates a large amount of carbon dioxide and attempts to find a recycling method to solve environmental problems by using biomass fly ash. Experiments were conducted according to replacement ratio of biomass fly ash based on GGBFS, The test items are flowability, air content, unit volume weight, water absorption, flexural strength and compressive strength. As a result of the experiment, as increased replacement ratio of biomass fly ash, the flowability and air content was increased. As increased replacement ratio, the density was decreased and water absorption was increased. The compressive strength tended to decrease as increased replacement ratio. The flexural strength tended to increased as increased replacement ratio.

  • Recently the Solid State Drive (SSD) is widely used for storage system of various mobile devices. In this case, existing buffer replacement algorithms based on the hard disk do not consider characteristics of flash memory, so it caused performance degradation of the system. This paper proposes a novel buffer replacement policy called ABM (Asymmetric Buffer Management) policy. ABM policy separates read and write buffer space and applies different replacement unit and replacement algorithm for each buffer. In addition, write buffer delay scheme and dynamic size adaptation algorithm is applied for better performance. ABM outperforms other replacement policies, especially ABM-LRU-CLC shows 32% better performance than normal LRU policy.

  • Recently, due to the increase of high-rise buildings construction, many researches for making harden of concrete earlier and remove of forms faster are being performed to reduce construction period. In this study, we compared and analysed the early strength properties of mortar according to the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture to select the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture of high early strength concrete. For this purpose, mortar mixtures according to the kinds(FA, MK, ZR, BFS, DM) and replacement ratio(0, 2, 4% by volume of sand) of mineral admixture were selected. From our test data, early-age compressive strength decreased in accordance with the increase of replacement ratio of fly-ash(FA) & blast furnace slag powder(BSF) and, in case of addition admixture, early-age compressive strength of with containing 4% appeared higher compared with containing 2%.

  • During the full 10-year period from June 1968 through June 1978, 112 consecutive patients underwent isolated or double valve replacement. A total of 130 valves were used in aortic, mitral or tricuspid positions: 63 prosthetic valves in 56 and 67 glutaraldehyde-preserved porcine aortic valves in 56 patients. There were 31 early and 9 late deaths with a cumulative mortality rate of 35.7 percent. Eighty-five patients survived longer than 10 days postoperatively were studied for the occurrence of thromboembolism and complications related to anticoagulant therapy. At the end of follow-up period, 68 patients were on Coumadin; 74 were on Persantin with or without Coumadin; 11 were off any antithrombotic drugs with 6 of them being off electively after 6 months of tissue valve replacement. Thromboembolism occurred in 7 [8.2%] of 85 patients or 10.9%/patient-year. Embolic rates were as follows: one of 18 patients anticoagulated [5.6%] or 6.1%/patient-year and 4 of 16 patients not anticoagulated [25.0%] or 17.8%/patient-year for the prosthetic valve replacement; and one of 40 patients anticoagulated [2.5%] or 7.9%/patient-year and one of 11 patients not anticoagulated [9.1%] or 7.9%/patient-year for tissue valve replacement. Three complications of major bleeding were experienced by 3 patients during the follow-up period, being related to Coumadin therapy. The importance of proper anticoagulation were stressed for the successful management of patients after cardiac valve replacement, both prosthetic and tissue valves.

  • As of December 2016, there are 608,828 elevators in operation in Korea and 179,790 elevators in more than 15 years. 30.4% of all elevator are aging. Improved maintenance of the elevator and proactive replacement of the parts of the elevator can extend the lifetime of the elevator and ensure safety. An unclean environment reduces the lifetime of elevator parts. If you do not clean the environment and prevent preventive parts replacement, eventually shortening the lifetime of the parts connected to the failed part or causing more damage will result in greater economic loss. Also, the risk of elevator safety accidents due to failures of elevator parts will be increased accordingly. The study of optimum replacement time of elevator parts will contribute to prevention of safety accident of elevator and prolongation of lifetime of elevator through preventive replacement of elevator parts.
