  • Purpose: This study was done to learn from the development of rural health nursing in developed countries. Method: A literature search was done using keywords such as "rural and nursing" or "rural and health" from the database CHINAL and website of institutions related to rural health and nursing. Results: In Australia, the type of rural health institution was categorized according to the population size and nursing service was done differently according to area. It is unique to Canada to have the Canadian Association of Rural and Remote Nursing, which published the survey report "the Nature of Nursing Practice in Rural and Remote Canada". In the U.S., the role of nurse practitioners in rural communities was relatively well developed and a diverse nursing care model was demonstrated. To improve health care access in rural communities, financial and political support by the governments has been part of long-term plans in the three countries. Conclusion: It is very informative to identity the difference and similarity in rural health nursing in three developed countries. For the future development of Korean rural nursing, suggestion can be made in terms of research, education and policy development.

  • Continuing advance in computers and MIDI devices has accelerated research on the computerized music technology, Realization of high speed computer communication networks facilitated on-line computer music systems, which needs to send a volume of multimedia data. This paper presents the design and implementation of the Remote Concert Education System which helps users practice ensemble without gathering in a room. The system maintains the music database, identifies tones and measures of the melody played with different instruments, check the correctness on-line, and finally provides the analysed results of the ensemble. The developed system can be used as a supporting system for music education if high speed communication network is available.

  • Construction sites are characterized by dangerous situations and environments that cause fatal accidents. Potential risk detection needs to be improved by continuously monitoring site conditions. However, the current labor-intensive inspection practice has many limitations in monitoring dangerous conditions at construction sites. Computer vision technology that can quickly analyze and collect site conditions from images has been in the spotlight as a solution. Nonetheless, inspection results obtained via computer vision are still stored and managed in centralized systems vulnerable to tampering with information by the central node. Blockchain has been used as a reliable and efficient decentralized information management system. Despite its potential, only limited research has been conducted integrating computer vision and blockchain. Therefore, to solve the current safety management problems, the authors propose a framework for construction site inspection that integrates object detection and blockchain network, enabling efficient and reliable remote inspection. Object detection is applied to enable the automatic analysis of site safety conditions. As a result, the workload of safety managers can be reduced with inspection results stored and distributed reliably through the blockchain network. In addition, errors or forgery in the inspection process can be automatically prevented and verified through a smart contract. As site safety conditions are reliably shared with project participants, project participants can remotely inspect site conditions and make safety-related decisions in trust.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to present several proposals for future pulse diagnosis practice and research by investigating the trend of pulse diagnosis studies in Korea. Methods: We searched online medical databases, including National Discovery for Science Leaders (NDSL), the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS), the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), and the Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal (KTKP), for pulse diagnosis articles in Korea. We selected articles on pulse diagnosis but excluded duplicate articles, articles irrelevant to pulse diagnosis, and articles published in foreign countries. Results: In the first screening, 801 articles were selected. We found 251 articles and classified them according to category. The medical engineering field had 148 articles. A total of 24 articles were related to algorithms for pulse wave detection, 34 to sensors, five to pressurization technology, 16 to systems, 11 to remote medical service, five to mobiles, nine to trends, and 44 to basic research. The Korean medicine field had 103 articles. A total of 41 articles were devoted to literature reviews, 20 to case reports, 11 to constitutional medicine, six to experimental studies, and 25 to relevant research. Conclusion: More efforts to practice pulse diagnosis for various diseases should be made and the results actively published.

  • In this study the spatial distribution characters of forest in forest damaged area were first considered by analyzing spatial data and monitoring forest landscape. Then suitable tree species on each site were selected through the weighted score analysis of GIS analysis methods. Finally, the best forest stand arrangement method could be presented on the 3D based simulation system for the advanced reforestation technology in Korea. For this purpose, the virtual reforestation system was implemented by using the concept of virtual GIS and CBD (Component Based Development) method. By use of this system the change offorest landscape of burnt forest area some years after reforestation practice could be detected and monitored by applying the site index and 3D modeling method.

  • In this paper, in order to identify and recognize attack patterns, we propose a Bayesian classification using frequent patterns. In theory, Bayesian classifiers guarantee the minimum error rate compared to all other classifiers. However, in practice this is not always the case owing to inaccuracies in the unrealistic assumption{ class conditional independence) made for its use. Our method addresses the problem of attribute dependence by discovering frequent patterns. It generates frequent patterns using an efficient FP-growth approach. Since the volume of patterns produced can be large, we propose a pruning technique for selection only interesting patterns. Also, this method estimates the probability of a new case using different product approximations, where each product approximation assumes different independence of the attributes. Our experiments show that the proposed classifier achieves higher accuracy and is more efficient than other classifiers.

  • The telemedicine & distance education system that this paper suggests has been designed on the CTE(Collaborative Telemedicine & distance Education) framework, which is an integrated multimedia environment. This is a CBM-based collaborative telemedicine & distance education type, different from the conventional doctor based general practice, and is an integrated multimedia telemedicine & distance education system capable of many application developments using information super highway. This paper presents the content regarding electronic medical examination chart and data treatment for efficient medical examination and prompt treatment by realizing mutual conversation type remote medical examination system among 3 parties(patient, doctor, pharmacist) on internet base. And, The implementation of this new teaming system should be designed with multimedia application development platform base which is interfaced with computer engineering, computer network technology, CSCW (Computer-Supported Cooperative Work) technology, and education engineering.

  • Protection of groundwater resources from contamination has been of increasing concern throughout the past decades. In practice, however, groundwater monitoring is performed based on the experience and intuition of experts or on the convenience. In dealing with groundwater contamination, we need to know what contaminants have the potential to threat the water quality and the distribution and concentration of the plumes. Monitoring of the subsurface environment through remote geophysical techniques or direct sampling from wells can provide such information. Once known, the plume can be properly menaged. Evaluation of existing methodologies for groundwater monitoring network design revealed that one should select an appropriate design method based on the purpose of the network and the avaliability of field information. Integer programming approach, one of the general purpose network design tools, and a cost-to-go function evaluation approach for special purpose network design were tested for field applicability. For the same contaminated aquifer, two approaches resulted in different well locations. The amount of information, however, was about the same.

  • Most current 3D digital maps are 2.5 dimension models based on DEM, which can only be recognized, browsed and operated by a special software, far from meeting the needs of a modern digital city (global) with the distributed, isomerous and multiple application on the real 3D representation and open sharing models. In this paper, a new generation digital city oriented 3D digital map is studied. Firstly, a real 3D digital map representation is presented. And then, some key techniques and methods for browser-based 3D digital map’s representation, display and operation are introduced, which can realized the open sharing of 3D map in distributed, isomerous and multiple application environment. Furthermore, the scale driving technique of proposed 3D digital map is also studied. And currently, some developments based on some of the above methods are being carried to provide key and general platform for other application software’s development.
