  • This paper suggests remote experiments using the internet for the control education. The remote experiment is composed of equipment server computers, networks accessible to internet, and real plants such as inverted pendulums, crane systems and microcontrollers. Additionally, it requires a server program that has I/O functions with plants and calculate the control, an interface program bridging between web and the server program, and the home page including the detail explanation for the usage. For effective educations, how to perform experiments and how to combine the experiment with lectures will be discussed. The simple experiments by entering a few control parameters and the complex experiments by designing overall controls, will be explained. Technologies related with the remote experiment and other possible remote experiment will be introduced. It is demonstrated that the remote experiment will be very useful, particular for control education where students have difficulties in performing the experiments for lack of experimental equipments.

  • Recently, in the engineering area, there is an increasing need for researchers at a distance to share the result of the experiment, without having to visit the experiment facilities. Especially in the civil engineering, researchers feel the need for participating in a experiment conducted at a distant location. In addition, it is suggested that high-cost facilities should be used by remote researchers thereby increasing the utilization rate. This paper proposes a remote experiment environment in civil engineering that are being developed in a project called Korea Construction Engineering Development(KOCED), which connects major civil engineering experiment facilities using grid technology, allows researchers to participate in a remote experiment, and has the experiment results shared by remote researchers automatically. Then, based on the suggested environment, we designed a hybrid test facility that involves two physical experiment facility sites and one numerical simulation site that are geographically apart. Then, we implemented its prototype and ran some tests, which showed a possibility of grid-based civil engineering experiment.

  • The paper introduces a research on the W-band Millimeter Wave Radiometer(RADW92) through an airborne experiment. Microwave remote sensing images of part of the Yellow River and the WeiHe River are of fared. Analysis of factors influencing the image qualities as well as the resolutions to them are also included. The RADW92 is the first generation of Millimeter Wave Radiometer in China, which works with operating frequency 92 GHz, the bandwidth 2 GHz, the integration time 60ms, the system sensitivity 0.6k and the linearity better than 0.999. Cassegrain Antenna is designed for imaging by conically scanning. The result of the experiment suggested that RADW92 had been adequate for space use.

  • In this paper, we developed remote control devices that can be controlled passive component e.g. resistor, inductor, capacitor that is a basic element in the electric circuit. We embodied a remote laboratory for basic circuit theory which learners can experiment controlling element value to remote through the internet. It was seen that is useful applying passive component developing to a remote laboratory. Because developed passive components can response in an experiment altering several element values to remote, they will be used very usefully in a remote experiment that equip various experiment theme. Therefor the proposed laboratory will be solved problems of virtual laboratory which students do not handle instruments in engineering experiment. With our proposed system, students can experiment any time, anywhere.

  • Experiments in electrical engineering should mirror the key components of successful research and development: Understand the basic theory needed, test the resulting concepts by simulation and verify these, finally, in the experiment. For optimal learning outcome continuous monitoring of the progress of each individual student is necessary, immediately repeating those subjects which have not been learned successfully. Classically, this is the task of the teacher. In case of remote-controlled experiments this monitoring process and the repetition of subjects should be automated for optimal learning outcome. This paper describes a remote-controlled experiment combining theory, simulation and the experiment itself with an automated monitoring process. Only the evaluation of the experimental results and their comparison to the simulation results has to be checked by a teacher. This paper describes the details of the educational structure for a remote-controlled experiment introducing active filtering of harmonics. For better understanding the content of the learning material (theory and simulation) as well as the results of the experiment and the underlying booking system are shortly presented.

  • As a decrease in labor became a serious issue in the manufacturing industry, smart factory technology, which combines IT and the manufacturing business, began to attract attention as a solution. In this study, we have designed and implemented a real-time remote management system for smart factories, which is connected to an IoT sensor and gateway, for plastic manufacturing plants. By implementing the REST API in which an IoT sensor and smart gateway can communicate, the system enabled the data measured from the IoT sensor and equipment status data to the real-time monitoring system through the gateway. Also, a web-based management dashboard enabled remote monitoring and control of the equipment and raw material processing status. A comparative analysis experiment was conducted on the suggested system for the difference in processing speed based on equipment and measurement data number change. The experiment confirmed that saving equipment measurement data using cache mechanisim offered faster processing speed. Through the result our works can provide the basic framework to factory which need implement remote management system.

  • In engineering education practical experiments is very important for each student, but due to the limitation of time and available resources such as laboratory equipment, space and instructors enough hands-on real experiments could not be provided to all students enrolled in the program throughout the academic year. In this sense web-based remote experiments through internet become a solution for engineering education and an emerging new paradigm for students and teachers. This paper presents the development of the web-based remote vibration experiment system for mechatronics education. Students can access this experimental equipment through an internet and conduct vibration experiment remotely without any restriction on time and place. IP address for data communication and web-service are assigned in local computer and then students receive experimental results and the captured pictures using network. The developed system provides real-time feedback of the tested results. Ubiquitous access to the system gained popularity from students.

  • The role of experiments in science education is essential for understanding the natural phenomena and principle related to a subject. Therefore, the remote control experiment via Internet is one of key solution for distance learners in science education. The remote experiments ate also necessary for the time-consuming experiment which takes several days, collaborative experiment between distance learners, expensive laboratory equipment which is not usually available to students, experimental procedure which is dangerous, etc. In this study, we have developed a general method for a remote control laboratory system using internet and interlace techniques. It is possible for students to learn the nuclear physics to control the real instruments and conduct physics experimentation with internet techniques. We proposed the remote control radiation measurement system as a sample application. This system could be useful for the monitoring near a nuclear power plants in order to improve the environment data credibility to the public.

  • In this article, a new remote sensing image fusion model based on modified Kohonen networks is given. And a new fusion rule based on modified voting rule was established. Select Shaoxing City as the study site, located at Zhejiang Province, P.R.China. The fusion experiment between Landsat TM data (30m) and IRS-C Pan data (5.8m) was performed using the given fusion method. The fusion results show that the new method can gain better result in apply ing to the lower hill area, and the whole classification accuracy was 10% higher than the basic Kohonen method. The confusion between the woodlands and the waterbodies was also diminished.
