  • Two receiving systems were established at the Asian Center for Research on Remote Sensing (ACRoRS) to receive remote sensing data from NOAA AVHRR and Terra/Aqua MODIS sensors in October 1997 and May 2001, respectively. The data, which has been received in the research center, are very important to support and promote the remote sensing research activities for global environmental issues in Asia. Since the day of the establishment, many research and applications, which used these data, have been conducted. The data sets have been provided to researchers and users in many countries in the region to conduct research, to strengthen the research collaboration and education.

  • This growth if WWW(World Wide Web) with the spread of ADSL provides us with a variety of service that are the extensions of opportunities to get information. a various education methods by remote courses and electronic commerce. Remote Monitoring Server(RMS) that uses internet and WWW is constructed for chip mounter. Hardware base consists of RMS, chip mounter and C/S server. In this paper, we realize the remote management system with monitoring and diagnosis function to efficiently operate chip mounter the one of PCB assembly equipment. The remote management system for chip mounter consists of RMS(Remote Monitoring Server) and C/S server. RMS manages real-time information from chip mounter through TCP/IP. RMS that utilizes real-time information informs user of the actual output the operation status of chip mounter, user of the actual output, the operation status of chip mounter, the trouble code and the trouble description.

  • As the structure and operation method of MASS(Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship) are discussed accroding to the IMO degree, the interest and necessity for remote operators who manage and supervise the operation of MASS are increasing gradually. The form of MASS operation is clearly accompanied by various changes including new technologies and equipment in comparison with the current operation of ship. In IMO Degree 2 and 3, the capabilities that remote operators who will operate them must differ from those of existing seafarers(navigation officers, engineers and ratings). Regarding this remote operation, the NI(Nautical Institute) is the first in the world to present a syllabus and a curriculum of qualification for remote operator. Based on this, the paper introduces and compares the education model of MASS remote control operation and NI model, and further uses it as basic data for the creation of curriculum for future MASS remote operator.

  • There have been a large number of trials of the experimental education in engineering using virtual laboratories implemented in virtual space, namely on the Web. Although virtual education is regarded as an effective educational means that overcomes the limit of time and space and bring high teaming effects, the problem of lack of reality must be solved. The present study proposed and implemented a real-time remote laboratory as a solution for the problem of lack of reality in virtual education. The remote laboratory provides functions with which learners can perform experiments by remote-controlling circuits and equipment related to experiments and practices on the Web and gets data and image information, so through it learners can make realistic experiments at any time and in any place. The remote laboratory module based on Internet open sources such as JAVA Web start technology, FTP technology and Telnet technology in server-client environment can be implemented at low cost, and is effectively applicable to engineering experiment education in various areas related to real-time hardware control.

  • Peer evaluation is an evaluation centered on the student, through which interaction among students becomes active. The peer evaluation has a greater influence on students than a unilateral directions from the teacher has. This study aims to develop performance assessment models and tasks in which students participate using the remote responder in 4th grade social studies classrooms in the elementary school. It also aims to apply the developed models and tasks to class and to find out how they affect students' academic achievement and attitude. The student participation performance assessment using the remote responder appeared to bring a positive influence on social studies academic achievement and showed statistically significant results. The survey on the students' interests in using the remote responder and its effects conducted after the performance assessment showed positive results.

  • In contrast with the earlier remote education that simply recorded off-line classes, modern remote education emphasizes on offering additional functions that could maximize learning efficiency. Usage of such multimedia information as the texts, graphics, sounds, animations is considered fundamental element in offering the additional functions. This paper designs and implements an encoder/decoder that could accommodate the multimedia information with emphasis on demonstrating execution files. Instructors can demonstrate my type of execution files or application data files, and the remote learners can freely try running the corresponding execution files by themselves. Consequently, a high-level of learning efficiency can be achieved by the proposed encoder/decoder.

  • - Abstract - Objectives: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the characteristics of which laypersons want the cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) education. Methods: Based on a health survey(n=913) of 5 remote places in Korea, tests of the differences between the group that wants the CPR education(n=416) and the group that doesn't(n=497), and a logistic regression analysis of two groups was performed on socio-economic status and health-medical conditions. Results: Even the participation rate of the CPR education in Korea is only 5.8%, which is extremely lower than other developed countries, there are statistically significant differences between the group that wants the CPR and the group that doesn't on gender(p=0.001), age(p=0.000), education level(p=0.000), economic status(p=0.007), and CPR education taken(p=0.000), and health status(p=0.042). Furthermore, age(OR=1.599, p=0.002), age(OR=0.964, p=0.000), economic status(OR=0.804, p=0.028), and CPR education taken(OR=2.072, p=0.026) are statistically significant factors on the willingness to receive the CPR education. Conclusions: This study indicates that there is considerable variation in socio-economic status and health-medical conditions associated with the willingness to receive the CPR education. In remote places. certain subgroups of laypersons such as high-risk patients and family members need targeted outreach programs in CPR education.

  • Computer-based learning with the access to World Wide Web has become a fundamental base for adopting beneficial education. It provides significant facilities such as animation and interactive processes that are not possible with textbooks. Web/Internet-enabled applications which is fully controlled and monitored from remote locations are extensively used by a number of Universities, national laboratories and companies for different kinds of applications all over the world. Continuous advances in computers and electronics coupled with drooping prices of hardware have made Web/Internet-based technologies less costly than before, particularly for educational organizations. Thus, it is more affordable to invest in these technologies that are essential for both expanding education over Web and further improving and advancing such technologies the application of remote virtual instruments will be demonstrated in this context along with experiments that can be adopted to be educational experimental lab for Engineering Education students.

  • A remote cooperative studying system based on the Internet consists of a matching system of connecting remote class room with the others, a community system of making practical cooperative study by student's various. compensation and interaction, and a report system of sharing studying results and evaluating of studying achievements for individuals, groups and class. Especially I divide a course of cooperative studying into six parts; pre-preparation stage, group organization stage, interaction stage, result consultation stage, evaluation stage and follow-up stage. Because this system supply various interaction and responsible activity of groups, teachers naturally have confidence of education using ICT and students have basic ICT and the community-sense
