Parallel 3-D Aerodynamic Shape Optimization on Unstructured Meshes

  • A three-dimensional aerodynamic shape optimization technique in inviscid compressible flows is developed by using a parallel continuous adjoint formulation on unstructured meshes. A new surface mesh modification method is proposed to overcome difficulties related to patch-level remeshing for unstructured meshes, and the effect of design sections on aerodynamic shape optimization is examined. Applications are made to three-dimensional wave drag minimization problems including an ONERA M6 wing and the EGLIN wing-pylon-store configuration. The results show that the present method is robust and highly efficient for the shape optimization of aerodynamic configurations, independent of the number of design variables used.

Effective Mesh Optimization Rule for finite Element Method Using Energy Minimization (최소 에너지 원리를 이용한 효율적인 유한요소 격자 생성에 관한 연구)

  • A new remeshing algorithm based on the energy minimization is proposed for the finite element method. This utilizes the variation of mapping function between the master and global elements. The resultant equations are only the other form of the governing equations. However the equations have an important information about the relations between the elements. By assuming the solutions of the governing equations, these relations are used very usefully for the mesh optimization. The explicit formulations are presented for the relations of 1-dimensional equations and some examples are solved for comparison with the other methods. In addition, 2-dimensional expansion is presented for the general use.

  • 우리는 한정된 공간에 분산하여 위치한 다수 개의 카메라들을 이용하여 생성된 실사 그래픽스 체적 모델 시퀀스 기반 동적 복원 알고리즘을 제안한다. 각 프레임 단위로 생성된 정적 모델의 시퀀스로부터 일정 시간 단위로 키 프레임을 생성한다. 키 프레임과 키 프레임 사이의 모델에 대한 리메싱(Remeshing) 처리를 수행하고 이를 통해 생성된 3D 모델과 키 프레임 사이 특징 점을 획득한다. 획득된 특징 점의 3차원 좌표들 사이의 오차를 최소화 하는 최적화 알고리즘(Solver)을 이용하여 키 프레임 모델과 리 매싱된 모델의 비 강체 정합을 모든 키 프레임 단위로 반복적으로 수행한다. 제안한 정합 방법을 이용하여 생성된 모델과 키 프레임 모델 사이 에러를 비교함으로써 결과를 검증한다.

Triangular Grid Homogenization Using Local Improvement Method (국소개선기법을 이용한 삼각격자 균질화)

  • This paper proposes a local improvement method that combines extended topological clean up and optimization-based smoothing for homogenizing triangular grid system. First extended topological clean up procedures are applied to improve the connectivities of grid elements. Then, local optimization-based smoothing is performed for maximizing the distortion metric that measures grid quality. Using the local improvement strategy, we implement the grid homogenizations for two triangular grid examples. It is shown that the suggested algorithm improves the quality of the triangular grids to a great degree in an efficient manner and also can be easily applied to the remeshing algorithm in adaptive mesh refinement technique.

A Mesh Watermarking Using Patch CEGI (패치 CEGI를 이용한 메쉬 워터마킹)

  • We proposed a blind watermarking for 3D mesh model using the patch CEGIs. The CEGI is the 3D orientation histogram with complex weight whose magnitude is the mesh area and phase is the normal distance of the mesh from the designated origin. In the proposed algorithm we divide the 3D mesh model into the number of patch that determined adaptively to the shape of model and calculate the patch CEGIs. Some cells for embedding the watermark are selected according to the rank of their magnitudes in each of patches after calculating the respective magnitude distributions of CEGI for each patches of a mesh model. Each of the watermark bit is embedded into cells with the same rank in these patch CEGI. Based on the patch center point and the rank table as watermark key, watermark extraction and realignment process are performed without the original mesh. In the rotated model, we perform the realignment process using Euler angle before the watermark extracting. The results of experiment verify that the proposed algorithm is imperceptible and robust against geometrical attacks of cropping, affine transformation and vertex randomization as well as topological attacks of remeshing and mesh simplification.

Direct Reconstruction of Displaced Subdivision Mesh from Unorganized 3D Points (연결정보가 없는 3차원 점으로부터 차이분할메쉬 직접 복원)

  • In this paper we propose a new mesh reconstruction scheme that produces a displaced subdivision surface directly from unorganized points. The displaced subdivision surface is a new mesh representation that defines a detailed mesh with a displacement map over a smooth domain surface, but original displaced subdivision surface algorithm needs an explicit polygonal mesh since it is not a mesh reconstruction algorithm but a mesh conversion (remeshing) algorithm. The main idea of our approach is that we sample surface detail from unorganized points without any topological information. For this, we predict a virtual triangular face from unorganized points for each sampling ray from a parameteric domain surface. Direct displaced subdivision surface reconstruction from unorganized points has much importance since the output of this algorithm has several important properties: It has compact mesh representation since most vertices can be represented by only a scalar value. Underlying structure of it is piecewise regular so it ran be easily transformed into a multiresolution mesh. Smoothness after mesh deformation is automatically preserved. We avoid time-consuming global energy optimization by employing the input data dependant mesh smoothing, so we can get a good quality displaced subdivision surface quickly.
