Few surgeons have adopted pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC) invading the pancreas or duodenum because it remains controversial whether its prognostic benefits outweigh the high morbidity rates in such advanced cases. However, recent technical advances have revived diverse surgical procedures in minimally invasive approaches. Inspired by this trend, laparoscopic PD procedures have been performed for AGC in our institute since 2014. We recently performed a laparoscopic Whipple's operation in a case of cT4b gastric cancer with invasion of the pancreatic head and duodenum.

In this paper, we investigated dielectric and insulation characteristics of epoxy resin which includes elastomers to improve mechanical property, as varied additive elastomer contents with 5[phr], 10[phr], 15[phr], and 20[phr]. We measured permittivity and tan $\delta$ at 1kHz of signal frequency and room temperature. And we also measured BVD(break-down voltage) and volume resistivities. According to the experimental results, it is appeared that when the additive elastomer contents are increasing, permittivity, volume resistivity, BVD and volume resistance are decreasing because elastomer remains inferior to epoxy resin on electrical properties.

The etiology of neuralgia amyotrophy remains unclear. Herpes zoster induced neuralgia amyotrophy has been reported in extremely rare cases. In this case report, we describe the clinical features and electrophysiologic findings in a 68-year-old patient with neuralgia amyotrophy associated with herpes zoster infection. We suggest that brachial plexus inflammation due to viral infection may be a direct cause of reversible neuralgia amyotrophy.

Despite the use of antibiotics and vaccines, Streptococcus pneumoniae remains a serious cause of morbidity and morality in human. In this study, pathogenic and immunological natures of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) in S. pneumoniae were elucidated. In vitro cytotoxicity test determined by lactate dedydrogenase release from A549 cells revealed that adh mutation significantly reduced cytotoxicity although in vivo intraperitoneal challenge of the adh mutant to BALB/C mouse exhibited marginal increase of survival time than the wild type. Since the first description of Kikuchi disease(Subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis) in Japan, 1972, this condition has been reported in a worldwide. The etiology remains unknown. This disease shows a marked predilection for young woman, and a few cases in children has been reported. The usual initial clinical manifestation is localized cervical lymphadenopathy with fever, weight loss and myalgia. We experienced a 6 year-old girl of subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis with ANA, therefore report a brief review with the related literatures.

One of the important roles of geophysical exploration in archeological survey may be to provide the subsurface information for effective and systematic excavations of historical remains. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPA) can give us images of shallow subsurface structure with high resolution and is regarded as a useful and important technology in archeological exploration. Since the buried cultural relics are the three-dimensional (3-D) objects in nature, the 3-D or areal survey is more desirable in archeological exploration. 3-D GPR survey based on the very dense data in principle, however, might need much higher cost and longer time of exploration than the other geophysical methods, thus it could have not been applied to the wide area exploration as one of routine procedures. Therefore, it is important to develop an effective way of 3-D GPR survey. In this study, we applied 3-D GPR method to investigate the possible historical remains of Baekje Kingdom at Gatap-Ri, Buyeo city, prior to the excavation. The principal purpose of the investigation was to provide the subsurface images of high resolution for the excavation of the surveyed area. Besides this, another purpose was to investigate the applicability and effectiveness of the continuous data acquisition system which was newly devised for the archeological investigation. The system consists of two sets of GPR antennas and the precise measurement device tracking the path of GPR antenna movement automatically and continuously Besides this hardware system, we adopted a concept of data acquisition that the data were acquired arbitrary not along the pre-established profile lines, because establishing the many profile lines itself would make the field work much longer, which results in the higher cost of field work. Owing to the newly devised system, we could acquire 3-D GPR data of an wide area over about $17,000 m^2$ as a result of the just two-days field work. Although the 3-D GPR data were gathered randomly not along the pre-established profile lines, we could have the 3-D images with high resolution showing many distinctive anomalies which could be interpreted as old agricultural lands, waterways, and artificial structures or remains. This case history led us to the conclusion that 3-D GPR method can be used easily not only to examine a small anomalous area but also to investigate the wider region of archeological interests. We expect that the 3-D GPR method will be applied as a one of standard exploration procedures to the exploration of historical remains in Korea in the near future.
Pellets and prey remains were analyzed to compare diets and foraging tactics of Eurasian eagle owls (Bubo bubo) in two different habitat types: forested areas and open fields. Overall 150 prey items of three taxa were identified from 66 pellets and 82 prey remains, and the birds were the most important prey in biomass (78.04%) and in frequency (56.67%). Eurasian eagle owls frequently used rats (Rattus spp.), ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus), and stripped field mice (Apodemus agrarius), but the ring-necked pheasant was most important in biomass in both habitat types. The owls generally foraged various prey in biomass but the mean mass of vertebrate prey used by the Eurasian eagle owls was 503.3g in central Korea. According to the comparison of diets in the two different habitat types, the owls used bigger and more diverse prey in forested areas than in open fields. In forested areas, the Eurasian eagle owls frequently foraged the pheasants and Mandarin ducks (Aix galericulata), but they preferred prey of particular sizes to prey of particular taxa. In open fields, however, the owls showed opportunistic foraging tactics by selecting many small mammals such as rodents or a few large birds.

Objective : The treatment of malignant posttraumatic brain swelling remains a frustrating endeavor for neurosurgeon. Mortality and morbidity rates remain high depite advances in medical treatment of increased intracranial pressure. If conventional therapy fails in patients suffering from intracranial hypertension, there is only small number of second-tier option left including decompressive craniectomy. The role of decompressive craniectomy in posttraumatic brain swelling remains controversial. We assessed the efficacy and indications of decompressive craniectomy. Methods : The authors performed decompressive bifrontotemporal craniectomy in 22 patients with malignant posttraumatic brain swelling. Epidural pressure monotoring was performed in all patients. The clnical data and surgical outcomes were reviewed retrospectively. Result : The favorable outcome(GOS score 4-5) was 59%(13 of 22 patients), whereas the mortality rate was 32% (7 of 22 patients). Two patients(9%) remained in severely disabled state. Increased rate of favorable outcome was seen in the patients who had 8 or more of GCS score at admission and exhibited B wave in ICP monitoring and who showed steady state or slow deterioration in clinical course. Conclusion : If conservative therapy fails, decompressive bifrontotemporal craniectomy should be considered in the management of malignant posttraumatic brain swelling before irreversible ischemic brain damage occur.
The biting behaviors of tuna were studied based on the remains of saury (Cololabis saira), which was used as bait, in the stomach contents of tuna. The saury remains were classified into four segmental groups (A-segment: Whole fish; B-segment: anterior partion with head: C-segment: middlepart without both head and tail: D-segment : posterior part without head). The tuna stomachs were independently named and grouped into three subsamples according to bait segments remaining in the stomach. The subsamples have the extra number of the stomach-naming segments and the distributions of the bait tegments are biased from tile random distribution. The distribution of the bait segments except the extra segments are hypothetically assumed to be random, and was subjected to the chi-square test of significance. The inferred conclusions are as follows:1. Most of the tuna having the B-segment had previously taken the C and/or D-segment. 2. The catchability of the yellowfin tuna having the B-segment seems higher than that of the fish having the A-segment in the stomach. 3. Tuna which had two or more bait heads should have taken the extra bait heads without being hooked detaching the head from the hook by biting the Posterior porting of tile bait.
Six of the Imdang tombs containing remains with imprints of ancient fabrics and textiles were investigated. Within the tombs, a total of 120 pieces of imprinted fabrics and textiles were investigated, all of which belongs to $5{\sim}6C$ Shilla period. All of the hemp textiles examined exhibited similar characteristics found in ancient hemp textiles: they were woven by plain weave technique with s-twist threads. The examined silk could be categorized into plain woven silk, cho, and double woven brocade, all of them made with non-twisted threads and degummed silk. The density of the plain woven silk ranged from 39 threads to 144 threads. Cho was also found, which showed similar characteristics to those of Gaya and Bakjae tombs. One piece of 2/1 twill weave on plain ground and 12 pieces of double woven brocade were found and their average density was $97.4{\times}33.4/cm$ with denser warp than weft. The various thickness of the threads were observed in the examined plain braid. The silk with twining technique showed thicker warp than weft. This is similar to the techniques of fabrics found in the King Muryeoung's Tomb of the Bakjae period. Fabrics with the purple-like color were observed in the some of the double woven brocades and also on the plain woven silk imprinted on the remains. The purple-like color was revealed to be purple with a tint of violet. The two tombs from which the imprinted fabrics with purple-like color were found belonged to top-class social level of the Shilla period, which informs that the purple color was used exclusively for the people of higher social status. The floss silk was found between the double woven brocade and plain woven silk of the belt, which is an important evidence that the floss silk was used for stuffing in the early 6th century.
