  • Job stress experienced during work has a positive effect on the organization, such as performance improvement, but if not properly managed, it can cause physical diseases such as digestive diseases and mental diseases such as depression and neurological diseases. If job stress persists for a long time, it causes emotional exhaustion and depression, which has a significant adverse effect on individuals and organizations, so proper management is essential. Therefore, in this study, a descriptive survey study was conducted using a self-report questionnaire method to find out the relationship between job stress, emotional exhaustion and depression of medical institution workers. As a result of the analysis, it was found that job stress of medical institution workers had a significant (+) effect on emotional exhaustion and depression, and emotional exhaustion of medical institution workers had a significant (+) effect on depression. Through this study, it was found that there was a significant relationship between job stress, emotional exhaustion, and depression of hospital employees, and that emotional exhaustion acts as a parameter in the relationship between job stress and depression. Considering that job stress of hospital employees causes adverse organizational effects, such as threatening workers' mental and physical health and causing deterioration in the quality of medical services, organizational efforts will be needed to relieve and properly manage job stress of hospital employees.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the self- perceived stress of high school students on their oral health care and the relationship between stress and oral health care. The subjects in this study were the students in four different high schools located in Chungcheongnam-do, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted. The answer sheets from 939 respondents were analyzed by PASW Statistics ver.18.0 for Windows. The girls were more stressed than the boys about their studies, appearance and material resource, and the sophomores felt more stress about their home and studies. The group whose academic achievement was good in the past semester had the lowest stress about home and material resource, and the group whose economic standard was higher were less stressed about appearance and material resource. As a result of comparing their oral health care by general characteristics, the groups who were sophomores and whose academic achievement was good in the past semester were most excellent in that regard, and the students whose economic standard was higher and whose average weekly allowances were larger took better care of their oral health. Concerning the influential factors for oral health care, stress about peer relationship was positively related, and stress about material resource was negatively related. Given the findings of the study, the development of oral health care programs that include how to relieve stress is required, and more intensive education is necessary as well. Besides, education for school personnel in charge of student health management and the development of related manuals are both required.

  • For the anchor bolts and brackets that fix the stone wall, which is an external finishing material, it is necessary to maintain the performance required for the mechanical structure from the initial design stage and secure high durability. For this, the design and safety evaluation in consideration of the load conditions are necessary, so the structural analysis applying the finite element analysis technique was performed as a method to verify durability. As a result of structural analysis for various shapes for optimal design, a reinforcing structure was added to alleviate the maximum stress generated at the rear part of the bracket in contact with the bolt. In addition, a reinforcing plate was additionally attached to the bracket to relieve the stress concentration of the L-shaped bracket to make the stress distribution uniform, so that the safety factor satisfies the standard conditions. In addition, the fatigue life analysis by cyclic load was performed, and the fatigue safety factor was analyzed. As a result, the durability was obtained.

  • Heat stress results in fatigue, a decline in strength, alertness., and mental capacity. The problem is compounded when high humidity exists. To help relieve worker heat stress, many types of cooling units are marketed. While workers may experience some cooling, critical body core temperatures often continue to elevate. This study was designed to find the effects of three kinds of cooling vest with portable frozen gel strips on thermophysiological parameters and on temperature and humidity within clothing. The heart rate, rectal, and skin temperature as well as sweat rate and clothing microclimate were measured during 80 min in 5 healthy males. Inquiries were also made into the subjective rating thermal, humidity comfort, and fatigue sensations. The main findings in our experiments are as follows: (a) Physiological parameters such as rectal temperature was the lowest in garb A1, intermediate in garb A, and the highest in garb A2 throughout the experiment. And mean skin temperature was the lowest in garb A, intermediate in garb A1, and the highest in garb A2; (b) Temperature and humidity within clothing (back) were garb in Al, intermediate in garb A, and the highest in garb A2. But the temperature and humidity within clothing (chest) were garb in A, intermediate in garb A1, and the highest in garb A2; (c) Most participants (4 out of 5 persons) answered that they felt more comfortable and fatigueless in garb A1 than in garb A and A2. It is concluded that local cooling in garb A1 of the upper torso could physiological reduce the thermal strain in participants wearing cooling vest.

  • This study was designed to compare the incidence and severity of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) between normal (N = 85) and overweight or obese (N = 28) college female students and investigated correlation between PMS, nutrient intake, hematological index and psychological index (depression, anxiety, stress). Each subject was asked a Menstrual Discomfort Questionnaire (MDQ) for PMS by 5 Likert scale. The PMS scores of women in the normal weight subjects ranked in order of severity were water retention (2.71), followed by behavioral change (2.58), negative affect (2.46), pain (2.31), autonomic reaction (2.27), decreased concentration (2.16). The symptoms of 'pain' and 'behavioral change' of overweight or obese subject were significantly higher than those of normal subject (p < 0.05). And total cholesterol concentration of overweight or obese subjects was significantly higher than in normal subject (p < 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) between the symptoms of 'negative effect' and BMI. And the triglyceride concentration was positively related with 'water retention (p < 0.01)'. The symptoms of 'decreased concentration' were negatively correlated with calcium (p < 0.01) and vitamin B6 intake (p < 0.05). The depression score were positively related with symptoms of 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)', 'negative affect' (p < 0.01), and the anxiety score was positively correlated with 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)' and 'decreased concentration (p < 0.05)'. The stress score was positively correlated with 'decreased concentration (p < 0.01)', 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)' and 'negative affect (p < 0.05)'. This suggests that PMS represents the clinical manifestation of a calcium, vitamin $B_6$ deficiency and psychological disorder. Therefore we concluded that nutrient supplementation, depression and stress management may help to relieve PMS symptoms.
