  • The study problem was to determine the reliability of the Stewart pain circle measurement tool with Korean subjects. The purpose was to assess the tool for potential use in research in Korea. The subjects were 95 primary school students and 103 university students in Seoul. The study was conducted from May to June 1990, using Stewart's pain color circle tool. To determine the difference in the rated intensity of the order of the pain color circles, statistical mean and standard deviation were employed. Item reliability and test - retest reliability were used to test for reliability. ANOVA and t-test were used to explore for differences in the rated intensity of the order of the pain color circles according to the subjects' general characteristics. The findings were as follows ; 1. Higher level pain intensity was assigned to color circle numbers 2, 4, and 6 (These contain large amounts of color). Lower level pain intensity was assigned to numbers 1, 3, and 5(These contain small amounts of color). Higher and lower levels of pain intensity selection patterns were the same as Stewart's but the highest rating of pain was different. The highest pain intensity rating was given to the color red in this study instead of black as in Stewart's test. 2. University students and primary school students' ratings were not very difteferent. 3. Pain color circle reliability was $\alpha$=0.3468, Test - retest reliability was supported (t=0.02~0.97, p=0.337~0.988) 4. Differences in the rating of the pain intensity order were related to the subjects' age and sex, but not to religion. It was concluded that the pain color circle measurement tool is worth for further study as a research instrument with both Korean adult and child clients for validity and reliability.

  • In evaluation of electronic reliability on the PCB(Printed Circuit Board), electrochemical migration is one of main test objects. The phenomenon of electrochemical migration occurs In the environment of the high humidity and the high temperature under bias through a continuous aqueous electrolyte. In this paper, the generating mechanism of electrochemical migration is investigated by using water droll acceleration test under various waters. The waters used in the water drop test are city water, distilled water and ionic water. It found that the generated velocity of electrochemical migration depended on the temperature of water and the electrolyte quantity which included in the various waters.

  • After the 1970s, the importance of underground transmission systems increased and the construction rate of underground transmission lines also showed increasing trends each year, especially in metropolitan areas. Accordingly the social ripple effects are very large and wide when the fault occurs in underground power system, and the amount of time and money spent to restore the system also increases. So we must ensure stable operation and long-term reliability of the facilities. In Korea's case, long-term reliability tests for EHV power cables and accessories progressed poorly because equipment was not compatible for long-term reliability tests. Therefore we planned to construct a long-term reliability test field for EHV underground cables in order to ensure international quality reliability and optimal power cable operation techniques. The Gochang Underground Cable Test Field is under construction, funded by the Korean government, the govenment's union investment department, KEPCO, KERI and three private cable corporations. This project began in March, 2005 and will be completed by February, 2010. It is designed to promote joint research by incorporating several types of test equipment, construction of operating facilities, and being an internationally certified authority.

  • It is very important to set a reliability target and verify the requirement when procuring the rolling stock in the aspect of safety, availability and LCC. While there are a few different methods to verify the reliability target, it is required that the most appropriate method should be used considering the characteristics of rolling stock itself and the operation environment. Even though recently the quantitative reliability requirements are widely adopted in domestic market, there is no substantial contents in the various standards and guidelines. In this study we investigate the various reliability demonstration test plans and evaluate them for rolling stock application. And three test plans among them were applied to the real operation data.

  • Purpose: The Cardiac Rehabilitation scale (INCR scale) is a verified measure worldwide. The scale measures the extent to which cardiac rehabilitation meets the various needs of the participating patients and determines how education related to heart disease and rehabilitation satisfies their preferences. The current study applied the INCR scale to verify and develop it for use in Korea by conforming to Korean culture and language. Methods: The Korean version of the INCR scale was created after a six-step process in accordance with the international questionnaire translation law. The Korean version of the INCR scale was assessed in 45 cardiac rehabilitation patients (29 males, 16 females). Internal consistency was verified using Cronbach's alpha. Test-re-test reliability and interrater reliability were verified using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Content validity was selected to verify the validity. Results: The content validity index of the Korean version of the INCR scale was high, with an average of 0.93. Cronbach's Alpha for Internal consistency also revealed high reliability of 0.89 in all 10 categories. The interclass correlation coefficient of the test-re-test and interrater reliability scores were 0.95 and 0.81, respectively. Conclusion: Our results indicate that the Korean version of the INCR scale would be instrumental in the clinical setting to determine the knowledge, educational needs, and preferences of patients participating in cardiovascular disease and cardiac rehabilitation.

  • In this paper, we introduce U-statistics approach to generalized Hollander-Proschan test for new better than used (NBUE) alternative. We prove, the proposed test is equivalent to test was introduced by Anis and Mitra (2011) and includes test was introduced by Hollander Proschan (1975). Also, the asymptotic properties are studied. The powers of our test are estimated. The Pitman asymptotic efficiencies of proposed test are also calculated. Finally, the test is applied to some real data.

  • Embedded system testing, especially long-term reliability testing, of flash memory solutions such as embedded multi-media card, secure digital card and solid-state drive involves strategic decision making related to test sample size to achieve high test coverage. The test sample size is the number of flash memory devices used in a test. Earlier, there were physical limitations on the testing period and the number of test devices that could be used. Hence, decisions regarding the sample size depended on the experience of human testers owing to the absence of well-defined standards. Moreover, a lack of understanding of the importance of the sample size resulted in field defects due to unexpected user scenarios. In worst cases, users finally detected these defects after several years. In this paper, we propose that a large number of potential field defects can be detected if an adequately large test sample size is used to target weak features during long-term reliability testing of flash memory solutions. In general, a larger test sample size yields better results. However, owing to the limited availability of physical resources, there is a limit on the test sample size that can be used. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a self-adaptive reliability testing scheme to decide the sample size for effective long-term reliability testing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a quality assurance model and to determine appropriate warranty period for a guided missile using its field data. Methods: 10 years of actual firing data is collected from the defense industry company and military. Parametric maximum likelihood estimation for a reliability function is determined with the data. Results: The reliability function estimates average lifetime of the missile. That function shows a user requirement, 80% reliability (lifetime) is come up when 8 years have passed, which is longer than the estimates in the missile's development phase. Conclusion: Quality assurance warranty for a guided missile must be established with actual test data. It is necessary to update and modify the reliability prediction and the warranty period with actual field test data.
