The purpose of this study were to determine the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of shoulder passive range of motion measurement using the "Clinometer + bubble level", a smartphone application and to compare with the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of measurement using a goniometer. Twenty six patients with stroke were recruited for this study. Two raters measured the passive range of motion of four types of shoulder movements (forward flexion; FF, abduction; ABD, external rotation at $90^{\circ}$ abduction; ER90 and internal rotation at $90^{\circ}$ abduction; IR90) using a goniometer and a smartphone to determine within-day inter-rater reliability. A retest session was performed thirty minutes later to determine within-day intra-rater reliability. The reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and the standard error of measurement (SEM). The ICC (2,1) for the inter-rater reliabilities of the goniometer and smartphone were good in FF and ABD [ICC (2,1)=.75~.87] and excellent in ER90 [ICC (2,1)=.90~.95]. The intra-rater reliabilities for the goniometer and smartphone were good or more than good, with an ICC (3,1) value >.75, the exception was IR90 measured by rater 2 on the smartphone. These results suggest that smartphone could be used as an alternative method tool for measurement of passive shoulder range of motion in patients with stroke.
In this research, the dimensional error of the measured specimen according to the measurement method was analyzed for the length, angle, radius of curvature and diameter using a projector which is used in industry. One-way analysis was performed on each data tested 30 times using a statistical technique. Through the experiment, it was found that an error occurred in each data when measuring the length and radius of curvature according to the measurement method, and the null hypothesis that no error occurred when measuring the angle and length was established. Based on this experimental data, the automatic measurement when measuring the projector causes less measurement error, so automatic measurement is recommended when measuring a small product. Also, an optimal measuring method is suggested for securing reliability on formulations of measurement automation.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the intra- and inter-rater reliability of muscle thickness (MT) measurements of the abductor hallucis (AbdH) in subjects with hallux valgus (HV), using ultrasonography performed at different inward pressures of approximately 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, 1.5 kg, and 2.0 kg, with no pressure control. Methods: Thirty-two subjects with HV were recruited. The thicknesses of both sides of the AbdH were measured randomly by two different examiners for assessment of the intra- and inter-rater reliability. The measurement values were analyzed using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). ICC (2,1) was used to determine the inter-rater reliability of MT measurements of the AbdH, while ICC (3,1) was used to assess the intra-rater reliability. Results: The results showed higher ICC values for intra-rater reliability compared to inter-rater reliability, and the value for inter-rater reliability with no pressure control (ICC=0.74 [95%CI=0.53-0.87]) was smaller compared to pressures of 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, 1.5 kg, and 2.0 kg. Other inward pressures for intra- and inter-rater reliability also showed excellent values (ICC=0.86-0.96). Conclusion: The findings showed that maintaining consistent inward pressure is essential for reliable results in measurement of the MT of the AbdH by different examiners in a clinical setting.
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of navicular drop measurements by clinicians in sitting and standing positions. Methods: Fourteen subjects with pronated foot were recruited. Two physical therapists randomly assessed the same patients on different occasions but on the same day. Almost all patients were assessed on more than one day. The intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of navicular dropwas estimated by calculation of the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: The intra-rater reliability of navicular drop measurements ranged from 0.93 to 0.87, the inter-rater reliability from 0.98 to 0.70 with the patient in standing and sitting positions. These results showed good reliability for calculated variables. Intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of navicular drop in standing position was higher than those of sitting position. Conclusion: Although inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of navicular drop in the sitting position was lower than in the standing position, measurement of navicular drop in the sitting position showed good reliability and was acceptable for patients who could not stand alone without assistance. We recommend that having the patient in the standing position is appropriate in navicular drop measurement.
Ultrasonography (US) is a recent technique that has proven to be useful for assessing muscle thickness and guiding the rehabilitation decision-making of clinicians and researchers. The purpose of this study was to determine the inter-rater reliability of the US measurement of transversus abdominis (TrA), internal oblique (IO), and external oblique (EO) thicknesses for different probe locations and measurement techniques. Twenty healthy volunteers were recruited in this study. Muscle thicknesses of the transversus TrA, IO, and EO were measured three times in the hook-lying position. The three different probe locations were as follows: 1) Probe location 1 (PL1) was below the rib cage in direct vertical alignment with the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS). 2) Probe location 2 (PL2) was halfway between the ASIS and the ribcage along the mid-axillary line. 3) Probe location 3 (PL3) was halfway between the iliac crest and the inferior angle of the rib cage, with adjustment to ensure the medial edge of the TrA. The two different techniques of thickness measurement from the captured images were as follows: 1) Muscle thickness was measured in the middle of the muscle belly, which was centered within the captured image (technique A; TA). 2) Muscle thickness was measured along a horizontal reference line located 2 cm apart from the medial edge of the TrA in the captured image (technique B; TB). The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC [3,k]) was used to calculate the inter-rater reliability of the thickness measurement of TrA, IO and EO using the values from both the first and second examiner. In all three muscles, moderate to excellent reliability was found for all conditions (probe locations and measurement techniques) (ICC=.70~.97). In the PL1-TA condition, inter-rater reliability in the three muscle thicknesses was good to excellent (ICC=.85~.96). The reliability of all measurement conditions was excellent in IO (ICC=.95~.97). Therefore, the findings of this study suggest that TA can be applied to PL1 by clinicians and researchers in order to measure the thickness of abdominal muscles.
Recently, a miniaturized measurement cell of effective thermal conductivity was developed to evaulate the heat transfer characteristics of hydrogen stroage material in the initial step of its development. In this work, the realiablity issues which can occur from this miniaturization of measurement cell were studied in detail by both experiments and numerical simulation of heat transfer. $LaNi_5$ as a reference was used for the reliability evaluation of the miniaturized measurement cell. Numerical simulations of heat transfer for this measurement system were verified through comparison with the experimental data. Under these reliablity studies, we discuss how to overcome the inherent drawbacks of this miniaturized system in order to achieve the high reliability.
The aim of this study was to analyze the reliability of an ultrasonic device(SDM) measuring soft tissue thickness in relation to tooth position, and to find factors which can influence the reliability. The results showed that 1. measurement error was the largest in the maxillary second molar position and the smallest in the mandibular central incisor position. 2. in a box whisker plot, the difference between two measurements was most widely distributed in molar positions. 3. in Pearson correlation analysis, the relationship between two measurements was the highest in the maxillary lateral incisor position and, the lowest in the maxillary second molar, mandibular first and second premolar position. 4. a stepwise multiple regression analysis could explain the difference of two measurements with various independent variables in 29.7% (P<0.0001). Gingival thickness was the only variable influencing the measurement difference in a statistically significant level(P<0.0001). It can be concluded that its high reliability, ease to use and patient comfort justified the application of the SDM in measurement of soft tissue thickness.
Supply chain is viewed as a number of organizations(at least three) working cooperatively with at least some shared objectives. The concept of supply chain management represents the most advanced state in the evolutionary development of purchasing, procurement and other supply chain activities. This study aims to analyze and develop a measurement instrument for supply chain performance in international logistics. A measurement instrument for supply chain performance in international logistics are developed by Lai et al(2002). Supply chain reliability, customer service and cost are constructed reflecting service effectiveness and operations efficiency between shipper, forwarder and liner. The results of this study are as follow. We firstly tested the measurement properties of the sub-dimension of the supply chain performance construct using reliability test and confirmatory factor analysis follow by exploratory factor analysis. For each of the factor, reliability and validity are achieved because of the significant loading of the measurement items on their latent factors. Further research perform the analysis of variance by multi respondents within each firm and across partner firms in the supply chain. The result of analysis present the difference with shipper, forwarder and liner in statistics.
