Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks (IWSNs) is exploited to achieve various objectives such as improving productivity and reducing cost in the diversity of industrial application, and it has requirements such as low-delay and high reliability packet transmission. To accomplish the requirement, the network manager performs graph construction and resource allocation about network topology, and determines the transmission cycle and path of each node in advance. However, this network management scheme cannot treat mobile devices that cause continuous topology changes because graph reconstruction and resource reallocation should be performed as network topology changes. That is, despite the growing need of mobile devices in many industries, existing scheme cannot adequately respond to path failure caused by movement of mobile device and packet loss in the process of path recovery. To solve this problem, a network management scheme is required to prevent packet loss caused by mobile devices. Thus, we analyse the location and movement cycle of mobile devices over time using machine learning for predicting the mobility pattern. In the proposed scheme, the network manager could prevent the problems caused by mobile devices through performing graph construction and resource allocation for the predicted network topology based on the movement pattern. Performance evaluation results show a prediction rate of about 86% compared with actual movement pattern, and a higher packet delivery ratio and a lower resource share compared to existing scheme.

This paper proposes a time slot allocation scheme for military patrol environments. This proposal comes from analysis of traffic properties in a military patrol environment. In the near future, robots are expected to explore enemy grounds and measure threat, taking the place of human patrol. In order to control such robots, control messages must be extremely accurate. One mistake from the control center could cause a tragedy. Thus, high reliability must be guaranteed. Another goal is to maintain a continual flow of multimedia data sent from patrol robots. That is, QoS (Quality of Service) must be guaranteed. In order to transmit data while fulfilling both attributes, the per-path based centralized TDMA slot allocation scheme is recommended. The control center allocates slots to robots allowing synchronization among robots. Slot allocation collisions can also be avoided. The proposed scheme was verified through the ns-3 simulator. The scheme showed a higher packet delivery ratio than the algorithm in comparison. It also performed with shorter delay time in the downlink traffic transmission scenario than the algorithm in comparison.
Using solar power in wireless sensor networks requires a different approach to energy optimization from networks with battery-based nodes. Solar energy is an inexhaustible supply which can potentially allow a system to run forever, but there are several issues to be considered such as the uncertainty of energy supply and the constraint of rechargeable battery capacity. In this paper, we present SolarSS: a reliable storage system for solar-powered sensor networks, which provides a set of functions, in separate layers, such as sensory data collection, replication to prevent failure-induced data loss, and storage balancing to prevent depletion-induced data loss. SolarSS adapts the level of layers activated dynamically depending on solar energy availability, and provides an efficient resource allocation and data distribution scheme to minimize data loss.
Objectives : This study aimed to develop an evaluation protocol of disability weights using person trade-off, and to test the reliability of the developed protocol in a Korean context. Methods : To develop the valuation protocol, the Global Burden of Disease(GBD) and the Dutch studies were replicated and modified. Sixteen indicator conditions were selected from the Korean version of disease classification, which was based on that of the GBD Study, and the person trade-off method referred to the Dutch method. Results : The disability weights were valued in a two step panel sfudy. The first step was a carefully designed group process by three panels, using person trade-off to establish the disability weights for sixteen selected indicator conditions. The second step consisted of interpolation of the remaining diseases, on a disability scale, by the individual members of three panels. The members of three panels were all medical doctors, with sufficient knowledge of the consequences of a broad variety of diseases. The internal consistency of the Korean disability weights was satisfactory. Considerable agreement existed within each panel and among the panels. Conclusions : It was feasible to use a modified evaluation protocol from those used in GBD and Dutch studies, This would provide a rational basis for an international comparative study of disability weights.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported that the amount of precipitation in South Korea would increase regardless of the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Moreover, the temporal and spatial rainfall variation would also increase in the future. Due to the geographic allocation of Korea, more than 80% of the annual precipitation occurs in the wet season from early July to late September. It is expected that the average precipitation in this period will increase from the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) scenario projections. These predictions imply an increased variability of available water resources. Rainwater harvesting system is widely used as an alternative water resources today. This study introduces a RBSN (rain barrel sharing network) as an efficient way to utilize alternative water resources under the RCP scenarios. The concept of RBSN combines individual rainwater harvesting system to a sharing network, which make the whole system more reliable. This study evaluated a RBSN in South Korea composed of four users based on a storage-reliability-yield (SRY) relationship. The study area comprises all 17 provincal areas in South Korea. The result showed a huge benefit from a RBSN in Korea under the historical rainfall condition. Even in the climate change condition, the results showed that a RBSN is still beneficial but the changes in reliability are different depending on provinces in Korea. The results of this study shows that a RBSN is a very effective and alternative measure that can deal with the impacts of climate change in the near future.

Objectives: This was a preliminary study to re-verify the reliability and validity of the Core Seven Emotions Inventory-Short Form (CSEI-s) and to establish standards for an objective scoring system such as T-scores and percentile for the normative group. Methods: Subjects were sampled through population-proportional regional allocation based on adults aged 20 or older and 65 or younger who voluntarily consented. Reliability was analyzed by performing an internal consistency (Cronbach's α) test and calculating means and standard deviations for each scale. The validity was analyzed between the CSEI-s and STAXI-K, SADS, COMOSWB, HADS, K-PANAS, Core emotions VAS. Results: The CSEI-s revealed notable gender discrepancies in aspects such as thought (思), fear (恐), and fright (驚), with women generally scoring higher than men. CSEI-s scores showed statistically significant differences in joy (喜) and thought (思) between those in their 20s and those in their 50s and 60s. As a result of the validity analysis, the seven-factor configuration was found to be statistically valid, and as a result of the correlation analysis with the coexistence scale, the correlation between each emotion and the seven emotions was found to be statistically significant. Cronbach's α for the CSEI-s was .891, showing statistically significant reliability. Conclusions: A preliminary study was conducted to standardize the shortened form of the Core Emotion Scale, and the reliability and validity were confirmed. A main survey of more people should be conducted in the future. Future results can contribute to revitalizing the development of oriental medicine evaluation tools and establishing an evidence base by standardizing the CSEI-s.
Since national GHG reduction target by 2020 has been presented in Korea, the role of railroad has been reinforced within transport system due to the allocation of reduction target into sector. So, it is necessary to manage activity data systematically for the calculation of GHG emission in railroad. Now, the activity data of diesel consumption for NIR(National Inventory Report) are provided from oil supply and demand statistics. On the other hands, the activity data collected directly from railroad operating companies are used for GHG & Energy Target Management Act. This study aimed to assess the GHG emissions using two kinds of activity data related to the diesel consumption of railroad in 2009 and 2010. As a result, GHG emissions based on oil supply and demand statistics was 636 thousands ton $CO_{2e}$, but the activity data collected from railroad operating companies showed 649 thousands ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2009. Also, the gap of $CO_{2e}$ emission was increased in 2010. These trends were caused because oil supply and demand statistics included total diesel sales volume during 1 year and the activity data collected from railroad operating companies were the amount of diesel consumption only at railcar operation and maintenance step. In conclusion, it is important to develop the management and verification system of activity data with high reliability to substitute oil supply and demand statistics in railroad sector.

Recently, the use of NAND flash memory is being increased as a secondary device to displace conventional magnetic disk. NAND flash memory, as one among non-volatile memories, has many advantages such as low power, high reliability, low access latency, and so on. However, NAND flash memory has disadvantages such as erase-before-write, unbalanced operation speed, and limited P/E cycles, unlike conventional magnetic disk. To solve these problems, NAND flash memory mainly adopted FTL (Flash Translation Layer). In particular, garbage collection technique in FTL tried to improve the system lifetime. However, previous garbage collection techniques have a sensitive property of the system lifetime according to write pattern. To solve this problem, we propose BSGC (Balanced Selection-based Garbage Collection) technique. BSGC efficiently selects a victim block using all intervals from the past information to the current information. In this work, SFL (Search First linked List), as the proposed block allocation policy, prolongs the system lifetime additionally. In our experiments, SFL and BSGC prolonged the system lifetime about 12.85% on average and reduced page migrations about 22.12% on average. Moreover, SFL and BSGC reduced the average response time of 16.88% on average.

The power grid has been changed to a smart grid system to satisfy the growing need for power grid complexity, demand, reliability, security, and efficiency with a combination of existing power and ICT technology. This study analyzes the research trends in smart grid technology in the period since the introduction of the smart grid system and compares it with industrial trends to grasp the progress and characteristics of Smart Grid technology and look for ways to innovate the technology. To do this, we analyze the research trends using dynamic topic modeling, which is capable of time-series research topic analysis. Next, we compare the results of research trends with industrial trends analyzed by Gartner's experts to demonstrate that smart grid research is evolving to the level of industrialization. The results of this study are quantitative analysis through data mining, and it is expected that it will be used in many fields such as companies that want to participate in industry and government agencies that need to establish policies by showing more objective analysis results.

In this paper, we propose a protection architecture of passive optical network (PON) system by using two optical line terminals (OLTs). Using this scheme, the network can sustain services to access area and restores normal operation in faulty conditions. Unlike existing systems, the proposed one increases the efficiency of the system by operating both OLTs using different wavelengths in normal condition. During protection mode, a Shared-bandwidth allocation scheme is employed to maximize the utilization efficiency. Performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can provide reliability to Ethernet-based PON system very efficiently.
