  • This study was analyzed dynamically by finite element method about the results of experiments which materials were applied by dynamic load. And they were compared with each other as the simulation data applied onto dynamic impact velocities of 6.4, 16.7 and 18.47m/s. The crack energy release rate, von-Mises stress and the displacement according to the load applied by block were calculated numerically by computer. As the numerical simulation data of specimen analyzed in this study approached the experimental data, the inspection of this specimen model suggested in this paper could be reasonable for the numerical simulation.

  • A model for the prediction of combustion and exhaust emissions of DI diesel engine has been formulated and developed. This model is a quasi-dimensional phenomenological one and is based on multi-zone combustion modelling concept. This model is developed based on the concept of Hiroyasu's multizone combustion models. It takes nozzle injection (spray) parameters, induction swirl into consideration and the models of zone velocity, air entrainment, fuel droplet evaporation and mixture combustion are upgraded. Various parameters, such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate, Nox and soot emission, and these parameters in the zone are simulated. The results are compared with the experimental ones, too.

  • Solute transport through a groove is affected by its vortices. Our laboratory and numerical experiments of dye transport through a single axisymmetric groove reveal evidence of enhanced spreading and mixing by the vortex, i.e., a new kind of dispersion called here the vortex dispersion. The uptake and release of contaminants by vortices in porous media is affected by the flow Reynolds number. The larger the flow Reynolds number, the larger is the vortex dispersion, and the larger is the mass-transfer rate between the mobile zone and the vortex. The long known dependence of the mass-transfer rate between the mobile and "immobile" zones in porous media on flow velocity can be explained by the presence of vortices in the "immobile" zone and their uptake and release of contaminants.

  • The fire whirl occurring in the urban and/or wildland fire is generated by the instabilities of atmosphere. The fire whirl is a rare phenomenon, but highly destructive because it has high inhalation and lift force. In this study, experimental study is performed with oriental oak leaves, for investigating of the fire whirl characteristics occurred in wildland fire. As a result of experiment, the circulation intensity increases as increasing of the induced air velocity, and then the fire whirl occurs. Also, the heat release rate and flame height increase 22% and 18% in highest circulation.

  • NOx (nitrogen oxide) in the exhaust gas engines causes severe air pollution. NOx is produced under high-temperature combustion conditions. EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) is normally used to reduce the combustion temperature and NOx production. As the EGR ratio increases, the NOx level becomes low. On the other hand, an excessively high EGR ratio makes the combustion unstable resulting in other air pollution problems, such as unburned hydrocarbon and higher CO levels. In this study, the improvement of fuel droplets moving by the radiation of sonic waves was studied for the stable combustion using analytic and experimental methods. For the analytical study, the effects of the radiation of a sonic wave on the fuel droplet velocity were studied using Fluent software. The results showed that the small droplet velocity increased more under high-frequency sonic wave conditions, and the large droplet velocity increased more under low-frequency sonic wave conditions. For the experimental study, the combustion chamber was made to measure the combustion pressure under the sonic wave effect. The measured pressure was used to calculate the heat release rate in the combustion chamber. With the heat release rate data, the heat release rate increased during the initial combustion process under low-frequency sonic wave conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of myofascical release (MR) on the degree of pain and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in middle-aged women. Participants were 28 middle-aged women and MR carried out three times (1, 3, 5 day) at intervals of two times. We did survey about changes of pain before the MR and how they changed after the MR. Also measured pressure pain threshold (PPT) and visual analogue scale (VAS) by using the algometer at trapezius muscle. In median nerve, we did motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) test and sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV) test for measuring incubation period, amplitude and nerve conduction. The most painful time was 18~21 and the most painful part was shoulder. The pain scale, PPT and VAS after the MR had significantly decreased than before the MR. The latency was significantly decreased and the amplitude was significantly increased in the MNCV and the latency was significantly decreased in the SNCV after the MR. Also it was effective in ameliorating pain scale and latency of NCV. Consequently, the MR can be effective in prevent pain scale caused by fatigue in middle-aged women as replacement therapy.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the relation between swing phase and airborne phase of Tkatchev motion which was successfully performed with following motion by excellent middle and high school athletes in horizontal bar. Method: The subjects for this study were 8 male middle and high school top athletes. After their Tkatchev motions were filmed by two digital highspeed camcorders setting in 90 frames/sec at the 44th National Gymnastics against Cities and Provinces, the % lapse time lapse time of each instant, inferred maximum force acting on horizontal bar, and other kinematical variables were calculated through DLT method. After the relations among the % lapse times of each instants of downswing-start, downswing-finish, whipswing-finish, release, peak-height, and lapse time of regrasp, the relation among maximum force acting on bar, % lapse time, peak height, and the relation between % lapse time and release height were examined, the biomechanical timing characteristics of Tkatchev motion were as follows. Results: Firstly, it was revealed that the whole lapse time was $1.62{\pm}.06s$ and the correlation between the % lapse time of downswing-start and % lapse time of release was .819. Secondly, it was revealed that the pattern of COG path was shifted forwardly and tilted 11 clockwise from origin. Thirdly, it was revealed that maximum force acting on bar was inferred in $2,283{\pm}425N$ ($4.7{\pm}.6BW$) and the correlation between maximum force and peak height was r = .893. Lastly, it was revealed that the horizontal and vertical component of body COG velocity was $-2.14{\pm}.29m/s$, $2.70{\pm}.43m/s$ respectively, release height was $.49{\pm}.12m$, and shoulder angle was $139{\pm}5deg$, and that the later the % lapse time of release, the higher the release height (r = .935). Conclusion: It is desired that the gymnastic athletes should delay the downswing-start near the horizontal plane on $2^{nd}$ quadrant because the later the % lapse time of downswing, the higher the release height. After all the higher release height could ensure the athletes to regrasp the bar safely, the athletes should exercise to make downswing-start delay.

  • The purposes of present study were to determine the major check-points of golf swing from the review of previous studies, and to suggest additional information on the teaching theory of golf. The golf swing motion of 6 male and female elite university golf players were filmed with 16mm Locam II high speed cameras at the speed of 200f/s, and variables such as time, displacement, angle, velocity were calculated and analyzed by 3D Cinematography using DLT method. The results were: 1. Differences were shown in the ratio of weight distribution on the feet, cocking angle, take-back velocity, club-head velocity at impact depending upon the physical characteristics and club used for swing. 2. Time for the down-swing and impact were $0.27{\sim}0.29s$ in men and $0.29{\sim}0.32s$ in women, which was 1/3 of the time for the back-swing. Women showed longer total swing time than men because of longer time in back-swing, follow-through and finish. 3. Men showed larger range of motion in shoulder and knee joints than women, on the other hand women showed larger range of motion in hip joint than men. 4. Cocking motion and right elbow flexion were occurred at the top of back-swing and cocking release was occurred at the moment of impact. Maximum rotations of shoulder and hip joints were found between the top of back-swing and down-swing phase. 5. Women showed lower back-swing velocity than men, and men showed higher club velocity(men: $38.2{\sim}38.6m/s$, women: $35.1{\sim}36.4m/s$) than women.

  • In this study, the 1/20 reduced-scale experiments using Froude scaling were conducted to investigate the ventilation velocity of the variation of burning rate in tunnel fires. The heptane square pool fire with heat release rate ranging from 3.71~15.6 kW were used. The burning rate of fuel was obtained by measuring mass using load cell and temperature distributions were measured by K-type theomocouples in order to investigate smoke movement. The ventilation velocity in the tested tunnel was controlled by inverter of the wind tunnel. In heptane pool fire case, the increase in ventilation velocity incresed the burning rate due to the direct supply of oxygen to the fire plume. For the same dimensionless velocity($\bar{V}$), burning rate increased as the size of pool fire decreased.

  • The objectives of this paper investigate the effect of installed spacing on the activation of spot type heat detection devices. The flow of hot gases under a ceiling resulting from the impingement of a fire plume activates heat detectors and sprinklers. Local temperature and velocity in this ceiling jet are usually expressed with the function of a ceiling height, the distance from a fire location and the heat release rate of fire. And detectors having different. RTI respond in different ways to the same temperature and velocity of ceiling jet. Thus great care should be taken to decide installed spacing of heat detection devices by considering above effects.
