  • In case of cube satellite, it is difficult to realize the same performance as commercial satellite due to its highly restricted unit accommodation space. To maximize the performance of the cube satellite, design concept considering the multi-function of satellite is required. In this paper, mechanism design of cube satellite which is applicable for the holding and release of multi-deployable structures has been proposed and investigated. In addition, a switch mechanism design for the autonomous system operation just after the cube satellite separation from P-POD has also been proposed. The effectiveness of the mechanism design for holding and release of multi-deployable structures has been demonstrated by EM test of the holding and release mechanism.

  • A recent trend in flexible manufacturing systems(FMS) is to compose of the identical versatile-machines and to use dynamic tool allocation strategy, sharing tools between machines with fast tool delivery system. Unlike a conventional FMS where parts are fed to the machines with the required tools, tools are acquired from other machines using a tool delivery system and parts can be finished on the same machine in these FMS. Therefore it is more important problem to plan tool flow using tool delivery system in these FMS rather than part flow in conventional FMS. According to existing study, in FMS 20~30 percent of the total management cost is the cost related with tools and it is possible to reduce the tool inventory by 40 percent using efficient tool allocation. In this study, in FMS under dynamic tool allocation strategy, a new method of part release considering tool flow at the stage of part release is proposed. In order to prove the efficiency of the proposed part release it is compared with other part release through simulation experiments. Performance measures in these experiments are the throughput and the number of tardy parts.

  • Background: The myofascial release technique is known to be an effective technique for increasing posterior fascia flexibility in short hamstring syndrome (SHS) subjects. But therapeutic mechanism of myofascial relaxation remains unclear. Recently, the theory of autonomic nervous system domination has been raised, however, a proper study to test the theory has not been conducted. Objectives: To investigate whether the application of the myofascial release technique can induce changes in the autonomic nervous system and affect the secretion of stress hormones and myofascial relaxation. Design: Quasi-experimental study. Methods: Twenty-four subjects with SHS were randomly divided into two groups. In the experimental group, the suboccipital muscle inhibition (SMI) technique was applied to the subjects for 4 min in supine position, and in the control group, the subjects were lying in the supine position only. A forward flexion distance (FFD) was conducted, blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels were measured before and after the intervention and 30 min after intervention to determine myofascial relaxation and stress hormone levels. The evaluation was conducted separately in blind by an evaluator. Results: A FFD decreased in the experimental group, no change in cortisol was observed. On the contrary, a decrease in cortisol appeared in the control group after 30 minutes. Conclusion: The myofascial release technique is an effective treatment to increase the range of motion through posterior superior myofascial chain, but there is no evidence that myofascial release technique can control the autonomic nervous system.

  • Many in-depth reviews related to regulations of prolactin secretion are available. We will, therefore, focus on controversial aspects using personal opinion in this review. The neuroendocrine control of prolactin secretion from the anterior pituitary gland involves multiple factors including prolactin-release inhibiting factor (PIF) and prolactin releasing factor (PRF). The PIF exerts a tonic inhibitory control in the physiological conditions. The PIF should be able to effectively inhibit prolactin release or a lifetime, but the inhibitory action of dopamine cannot be sustained for a long period of time. Perifusion of a high concentration of dopamine (l ,000 nM) could not sustain inhibitory action on prolactin release but when a small amount of ascorbic acid (0.1 mM) is added in a low concentration of dopamine (3 nM) solution, prolactin release was inhibited for a long period. Ascorbate is essential for dopamine action to inhibit prolactin release. We have, therefore, concluded that the PIF is dopamine plus ascorbate. The major transduction system for dopamine to inhibit prolactin release is the adenylyl cyclase system. Dopamine decreases cyclic AMP concentration by inhibiting adenylyl cyclase, and cyclic AMP stimulates prolactin release. However, the inhibitory mechanism of dopamine on prolactin release is much more complex than simple inhibition of CAMP production. The dopamine not only inhibits cyclic AMP synthesis but also inhibits prolactin release by acting on a link(s) after the CAMP event in a chain reaction for inhibiting prolactin release. Low concentrations of dopamine stimulate prolactin release. Lactotropes are made of several different subtypes of cells and several different dopamine receptors are found in pituitary. The inhibitory and stimulatory actions induced by dopamine can be generated by different subtype of receptors. The GH$_4$ZR$_7$ cells express only the short isoform (D$_{2s}$) of the dopamine receptor, as a result of transfecting the D$_{2s}$ receptors into GH$_4$C$_1$ cells which do not express any dopamine receptors. When dopamine stimulates or inhibits prolactin release in GH$_4$ZR$_7$ cells, it is clear that the dopamine should act on dopamine D$_{2s}$ receptors since there is no other dopamine receptor in the GH$_4$ZR$_7$. Dopamine is able to stimulate prolactin release in a relatively low concentration while it inhibits in a high concentration in GH$_4$ZR$_7$. These observations indicate that the dopamine D$_2$ receptor can activate stimulatory and/or inhibitory transduction system depending upon dopamine concentrations.

  • In the present study, the author intended to investigate whether three oriental medical prescriptions named Jeongcheonhwadam-tang(JHT), Haengso-tang(HST), Socheungryong-tang(SCRT) significantly affect mucin release from cultured hamster tracheal surface epithelial (HTSE) cells. The results were as follows: (1) JHT significantly inhibited mucin release from cultured HTSE cells, without significant cytotoxicity : (2) HST significantly inhibited mucin release from cultured HTSE cells, without significant cytotoxicity : (3) SCRT significantly inhibited mucin release from cultured HTSE cells, without significant cytotoxicity : (4) JHT, HST chiefly inhibited the 'mucin' release and did not significantly affect the release of the other releasable glycoproteins with less molecular weight than mucin. These results suggest that the three herbal prescriptions specifically inhibit the release of mucin: (5) JHT significantly inhibited the expression levels of MUC SAC mRNA. This result suggests that JHT affects the synthesis of mucin at gene level in cultured HTSE cells. All agents showed no significant cytotoxicity. In view of these results, further investigation of the effects of JHT and HST are likely to be instrumental in yielding novel agents from oriental medical prescriptions which have inhibitory effects or expectorative effects on airway mucus secretion.

  • Experimental study has been conducted to clarify the pneumatic characteristics of brake system for freight train and enhance the performance of diaphragm valve. Empty-load and diaphragm brake systems are mainly used in the freight trains of KNR (Korean National Railroad). The train set is composed of thirty freight cars and diesel locomotive. From the experimental results, new quick release valve shortens release time after brake application. In case of normal brake application, the release time is short by 34% of that of original diaphragm control valve. It will be expected to assure brake-release application and reduce maintenance efforts.

  • Cypermethrin-containing polyurea microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization using aromatic 2,4-toluene diisocyanate(TDI) and Ethylene diamine(EDA) as wall forming materials. The effects of the protective colloids of polyvinylalcohol(PVA) and gelatin were investigated through experimentation. The mean size of the polyurea microcapsules was smaller and the surface morphology of the PVA was much smoother than gelatin. In addition the release behavior was much more controlled and better sustained. As the concentration of protective colloid increased, the wall membrane of the polyurea microcapsules became more stable, the thermal stability of the wall membrane increased, the mean particle size became smaller, and the particle distribution was more uniform. The release behavior of the core material changed according to the concentration. As the gelatin concentration was increased, a more controlled and sustained release behavior was observed. However, in the case of PVA, the increase of PVA concentration lead to a more rapid release rate.

  • The release of heparin from monolithic devices composed of different ratios of polythylene oxide (PEO MW 20,000) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane or polyurethane was investigated. Water soluble PEO blended into the polymers provided a controlled release of heparin. The release rate of heparin could be controlled by varying the content of PEO. The heparin release rate from the devices increased as the content of PEO in the devices increased. The release mechanism may be associated with the creation of pore of domain through the devices following the swelling and the change in the physical structure of the polymer network. Hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxanes and polyurethanes containing PEO can provide an antith rombogenic material for prologed release of heparin from blended system.

  • In this paper, we deal with an optimal software-release problem of determining the time to stop testing and release the software system to the user. The optimal release time problem is considered from maintenance like the periodic distribution of service packs and the unpredictable distribution of patches after the release. Moreover, the environment of software error-detection during operation differs from the environment during testing. This paper proposes the software reliability growth model which incorporates periodic service packs, unpredictable patches and operational environment. Based on the proposed model, we derive optimal release time to minimize total cost composed of fixing an error, testing and maintenance. Using numerical examples, optimal release time is determined and illustrated.

  • The release of progesterone from monolithic devices composed of different ratios of polyethylene oxide (PEO; mw 20, 000) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane was investigated. Water soluble PEO soaked into the polymer provided controlled release of progesterone. The release rate of progesterone could be controlled by varying the contents of PEO and progesterone in soaking solution. The progesterone release rate from silicone devices increased as the content of PEO in devices increased, while it decreased as the content of PEO in soaking solution increased. The release rate may be made by simple alterations of geometry of devices controlled swelling and the change in the physical structure of polymer network. Hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane containing PEO and progesterone can provide a contraceptive material for prolonged release of progesterone.
