Objective: To observe local and systemic toxicity after sustained-release 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis and the changes of drug concentration in the local implanted tissue with time. Methods: 300 mg sustained-release 5-Fu was implanted into canine peritoneum and para-aorta abdominalis. Samples were taken 3, 5, 7 and 10 days after implantation for assessment of changes and systemic reactions. High performance liquid chromatography was applied to detect the drug concentrations of peritoneal tissue at different distances from the implanted site, lymphatic tissue of para-aortic abdominalis, peripheral blood and portal venous blood. Results: 10 days after implantation, the drug concentrations in the peritoneum, lymphatic tissue and portal vein remained relatively high within 5 cm of the implanted site. There appeared inflammatory reaction in the local implanted tissue, but no visible pathological changes such as cell degeneration and necrosis, and systemic reaction like anorexia, nausea, vomiting and fever. Conclusions: Sustained-release 5-Fu implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis can maintain a relatively high tumour-inhibiting concentration for a longer time in the local implanted area and portal vein, and has mild local and systemic reactions. Besides, it is safe and effective to prevent or treat recurrence of gastrointestinal tumours and liver metastasis.
The purpose of the study was to compare selected kinematic variables between the female medalists and a Korean female javelin thrower at the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011. Three medalists and one Korean javelin thrower that participated in the Championships were videotaped using three high-speed cameras (300 frames/s, EX-F1 Exilim, Casio, Japan). This study identified the performance differences between the two groups. The results showed that the Korean female javelin thrower (KFJT) clearly had a greater delivery phase time than the female medalists. In order to throw farther, a thrower must exert a greater force to accelerate their body in a short time. This study also found that the release velocity of the KFJT was lower than that of the female medalists. The KFJT showed evidence of using her extremities differently to achieve the maximum release velocity. When comparing the inclination angle of the trunk across javelin throwers, the lowest value was recorded in the KFJT. Because the trunk position at release plays a significant role in determining the release height and release velocity, the KFJT should not rely on her upper extremities to achieve as high a release velocity as possible.
This study had two purposes. The first was to analyze the period of the final record set by the male shot-putters in the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011 from the point of view of kinematics. The other was to identify an efficient movement for shot putting based on the analysis. The research used the eight finalists of in the championship as subjects. We analyzed the seven most important kinematic factors in shot putting based on the type of technique: the execution time of the delivery phase, release velocity, release angle, release, center of mass (COM) velocity, and shot trajectories. The analytical results showed the following average figures for the record 12 meters: execution time of the delivery phase: (0.19 s), release height: (2.06 m), release angle: ($34.68^{\circ}$), release velocity: (13.25 m/s), angular velocity of shoulder: ($922.38^{\circ}/s$), and angular velocity of pelvis: ($479.50^{\circ}/s$). Further, the results showed that the highest COM velocity was 2.25 m/s and the shot trajectories were close to a straight line in the release phase.
We measured change of peripheral skin temperature and mean skin temperature when the upper arm and thigh are pressured in order to know the effect of skin pressure applied by clothing on blood circulation. After release from pressure, we observed also recovery condition. At the same time, we examined relation between pressure and a feeling of thightness. Three physiques of healthy females, namely slender, standard and plump, served as subjects. We used continuous restraint method with skin pressure applied by experimental fabric for 10 min. As a result of this experiment, we obtained following findings. 1. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time and physique with change of skin temperature under upper arm restraint. The peripheral and mean skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time. A remarkable tendency observed according to the increase of restraint pressure. Recovery condition after release from pressure not yet recovered to original state, for all after a lapse of 10 min. 2. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time and physique with change of skin temperature under thigh restraint, especially different physique was remarkable among them. The peripheral skin temperature decreased or decreased. Recovery condition after release from pressure was the same upper arm. 3. Main factor affecting the evaluation of a feeling of tightness was restraint pressure. The value of pressure sensation made remarkable declined after a lapse of 10 min restraint time. Individual differences, however, were shown in pressure sensation.
Production control is usually composed of due-dote assignment, production input control, and priority dispatching rule. A production input control(PIC) is mainly to control the WIP level on the shop floor. On the other hand, a priority dispatching rule(PDR) is mainly to control the tardiness/earliness of on order and number of tardy jobs. Therefore, if we select a particular PIC which can control only a particular performance measure(i.e., tardiness), it may cause worsening other performance measure(i.e., WIP level, shopfloor time, etc.) This newly developed production input control, DRD(Dual Release-Dates), is mainly designed to control the WIP level on the shop floor by employing two different release-dates of an order(earliest release. date and latest release-date and the release condition (relationship between the current WIP level and the pre-defined maximum WIP level) while trying to meet the due-date of the order.
Hollow type suppositories inserted polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel capsule containing propranolol·HCI (PPH) were prepared using different bases, polyethylene glycol (PEG), Witepsol H-15 (WH-15) and Witepsol W-35 (WW-35) to improve the controlled release of PPH. The release of PPH from the hollow type suppository inserted PVA hydrogel capsule was retarded than that from PEG, WH-15, or WW-35 hollow type suppositories in rat rectal cavity. When the suppositories were administered to rats, the controlled release of PPH was proved by the plasma concentration-time-profiles of PPH. No significant difference (p〈0.05) among the three different hollow type suppositories was observed in terms of AUC and MRT of PPH. WH-15 hollow type suppository inserted 12% of PVA hydrogel capsule caused irritation to rat rectal mucosa. However, the WH-15 hollow type suppository inserted PVA hydrogel capsule caused no severe irritation on rectal mucosa. The application of the hollow type suppositories using PVA in sustained rectal delivery of drugs might be feasible.
Experiments were performed to estimate the organic release from the aquifer soil in riverbank and/or riverbed filtration via a kinetic approach. Organic release was assumed as a reaction of first order regarding concentrations in both soil and water phases. The reaction rate constants were obtained by comparing the model predictions with the experimental data of organic release reaction and the equilibrium distribution of organic matter between water and soil phases. Results show that the organic release from the aquifer soil was not negligible under normal conditions in Korea reaching 4.7mg-COD/L-day. This indicates that manganese and iron start to be released from aquifer soil in the riverbank filtration in the middle reach of the Nakdong river if the travel time of the filtrate exceeds about 5 days. It was also seen that the COD of the soil organic matter was 0.89mg-COD/mg-OM and that 65% of the COD was BOD5.
Background: Positional release muscle energy technique (PRMET) is a method joined positional release technique and muscle energy technique. Methods: Subjects those who have low back pain from the acute to chronic phase, were applied PRMET method on psoas major muscle and measured the changes in pain and disfunction. Results: PRMET method is effective for reducing pain and disfunction on psoas major muscle. Conclusions: The advantages of PRMET method are minimized patient inconvenience, shortening of treatment time and effective for improvement. In the future research, methods need to be improved so that this can be applied to other muscles.
Sustained-release dosage form of ferruginous hematinics which can be absorbed effectively without forming "iron block" that caused by high concentration of Iron in the gastrointestinal tract, was studied. Gelatinized micropellets containing medicament were prepared according to the method of N. Tanaka et al. and hardened in 10% formalin-isopropanol in various time. Gelatinized micropellets were digested with artificial gastric juice and prepared a graph of iron concentration determined by Hong's method. As a result, it is assumed that gelatinized sustained-release dosage form can be a good ferruginous hematinics and it is shown that the preparation of 72-hour-hardening in 10% formalin-isopropanol has a suitable sustained release.d release.
