  • Multi-hop cellular networks (MCNs), which reduce the transmit power, mitigate the inter-cell interference, and improve the system performance, have been widely studied nowadays. The relay selection scheme is a key technique that achieves these advantages, and inappropriate relay selection causes frequent relay switchings, which deteriorates the overall performance. In this study, we analyze the conditions for relay switching in MCNs and obtain the expressions for the relay switching rate and relay activation time. Two mobile-based relay selection schemes are proposed on the basis of this analysis. These schemes select the relay node with the longest relay activation time and minimal relay switching rate through mobility prediction of the mobile node requiring relay and available relay nodes. We compare the system performances via simulation and analyze the impact of various parameters on the system performance. The results show that the two proposed schemes can obtain a lower relay switching rate and longer relay activation time when there is no reduction in the system throughput as compared with the existing schemes.

  • Broadcasting nature of wireless communications makes it possible to apply opportunistic network coding (OPNC) by overhearing transmitted packets from a source to sink nodes. However, it is difficult to apply network coding to the topology of multiple relay and sink nodes. We propose to use relay node selection, which finds a proper node for network coding since the OPNC alone in the topology of multiple relays and sink nodes cannot guarantee network coding gain. The proposed system is a novel combination of wireless network coding and relay selection, which is a key contribution of this paper. In this paper, with the consideration of channel state and potential network coding gain, we propose relay node selection techniques, and show performance gain over the conventional OPNC and a channel-based selection algorithm in terms of average system throughput.

  • In LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks, Relay nodes (RN) are used to improve the system coverage. However, it also brings new kind of interference to users which reduces the system performance. In this paper, we use an optimization relay node deployment to reduce the interference as much as possible and resource allocation to improve the user throughput. Our simulation results show our method is able to improve the user SINR and throughput.

  • In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage probability when using a partial relay selection scheme in cooperative communication systems based on decode-and-forward with multi-relay. It is assumed that both the receiving node and the eavesdropping node receive signals at both the transmitting node and the relaying node. The two received signals are used to obtain the diversity gain using the MRC scheme. In this paper, we compute the theoretical formula of secrecy outage probability and compare the theoretical value with the simulation value to prove that equation is valid. The simulation results show how the secrecy outage probability varies with the number of relays.

  • We investigate mobile multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) molecular communication via diffusion (MCvD) system which is consisted of two source nodes, two destination nodes and one relay node in the mobile three-dimensional channel. First, the combinations of decode-and-forward (DF) relaying protocol and network coding (NC) scheme are implemented at relay node. The adaptive thresholds at relay node and destination nodes can be obtained by maximum a posteriori (MAP) probability detection method. Then the mathematical expressions of the average bit error probability (BEP) of this mobile MIMO MCvD system based on DF and NC scheme are derived. Furthermore, in order to minimize the average BEP, we establish the optimization problem with optimization variables which include the ratio of the number of emitted molecules at two source nodes and the initial position of relay node. We put forward an iterative scheme based on block coordinate descent algorithm which can be used to solve the optimization problem and get optimal values of the optimization variables simultaneously. Finally, the numerical results reveal that the proposed iterative method has good convergence behavior. The average BEP performance of this system can be improved by performing the joint optimizations.

  • Cooperative networks transmit signals form the source node to the destination node via several relay node where the combining and demodulation of relay aided signals provide the benefit of performance enhancement and data rate increment. In general, a repetitive manner transmission scheme in which the received signal from the source node is amplified/re-generated and forward to the destination node is widely used. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of cooperative networks using the mixed transmission scheme. The conventional modulation scheme is used in the source-relay links, and space-time code is applied in the relay-destination links. To reduce the complexity of the overall system, we adopt differential modulation which bypasses channel state information. We analyze bit error rate (BER) of the proposed system by considering the number of relay nodes, and the performances depending on the strength of transmission signal in the source-relays and rely-destination links are compared. In addition, we also discuss the system performance with the signal strength and the number of relay nodes simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable $8{\times}8$ up-down switching polar relay code based on 3GPP LTE standard, motivated by 3GPP LTE down link, which is 30 bps/Hz for $8{\times}8$ MIMO antennas, and by Arikan's channel polarization for the frequency selective fading (FSF) channels with the generator matrix $Q_8$. In this scheme, a polar encoder and OFDM modulator are implemented sequentially at both the source node and relay nodes, the time reversion and complex conjugation operations are separately implemented at each relay node, and the successive interference cancellation (SIC) decoder, together with the cyclic prefix (CP) removal, is performed at the destination node. Use of the scheme shows that decoding at the relay without any delay is not required, which results in a lower complexity. The numerical result shows that the system coded by polar codes has better performance than currently used designs.

  • In mobile wireless sensor network, Whole nodes can move. In mobile wireless sensor network based on clustering, there can be frequent re-configuration of cluster according to frequent changes of location. Frequent reconfiguration of the cluster cause a lot of power consumption and data loss. To solve this problem, we suggest relay method for sending reliable data and decreases a number of re-configuration of cluster using relay node.

  • In this paper, the linear source and relay precoders are designed for AF MIMO relay systems. In order to minimize mean squared error (MSE) of received symbol vector, the source and relay precoders are proposed, and MMSE receiver which is suitable to those precoders is utilized at the destination node. As the optimal precoders for source and relay nodes are not represented in closed form and induced by iterative method, we suggest a simple precoder design scheme. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed precoding scheme is comparable with that of optimal scheme and outperforms other relay precoding schemes. Moreover, in high SNR region, it is revealed that SNR between source and relay node is more influential than SNR between relay and destination node in terms of bit error rate.

  • In this paper, we propose a new distributed Alamouti space-time block coding scheme using cooperative relay system composed of one source node, three relay nodes and one destination node. The source node is assumed to be equipped with two antennas which respectively use a 2-beam array to communicate with two nodes selected from the three relay nodes. During the first time slot, the two signals which respectively were transmitted by one antenna at the source, are selected by one relay node, added, amplified, and forwarded to the destination. During the second time slot, the other two relay nodes implement the conjugate and minusconjugate operations to the two received signals, respectively, each in turn is amplified and forwarded to the destination node. This transmission scheme represents a new distributed Alamouti space-time block code that can be constructed at the relay-destination channel. Through an equivalent matrix expression of symbols, we analyze the performance of this proposed space-time block code in terms of the chernoff upper bound pairwise error probability (PEP). In addition, we evaluate the effect of the coefficient $\alpha$ ($0{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}1$) determined by power allocation between the two antennas at the source on the received signal performance. Through computer simulation, we show that the received signals at the three relays have same variance only when the value of $\alpha$ is equal to $\frac{2}{3}$, as a consequence, a better performance is obtained at the destination. These analysis results show that the proposed scheme outperforms conventional proposed schemes in terms of diversity gain, PEP and the complexity of relay nodes.
