Analysis on the Protective Coordination with the Superconducting Fault Current Limiter for the Application into the KEPCO Grid

  • In this paper, the protection coordination of the protection devices such as the over-current relay (OCR) and recloser (R/C) with superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) was investigated in a KEPCO grid. The operation time and protection coordination of the protection devices were changed by the SFCL. Through the analysis for protection coordination between the SFCL and the protection devices in the KEPCO grid, the operation time was observed to depend on the impedance of the SFCL.

  • 최근 배전계통은 정부의 녹색성장 정책으로 태양광, 풍력발전 등과 같은 분산전원의 보급률이 지속적으로 증가되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 분산전원의 연계로 기존 배전계통의 조류흐름은 단방향(One-direction)에서 양방향(Bi-direction)으로 변화되고, 고장전류의 증 감이 발생하는 등, 다양한 변화가 생겨 배전계통의 운용상에 여러 가지 문제점들이 발생할 가능성이 커지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 분산전원의 배전계통 연계에 따른 보호기기의 정정 및 양방향 보호협조 검토가 가능한 보호협조 평가알고리즘과 실제의 사고전류 값을 이용한 개선된 T-C곡선 알고리즘을 제안하고, 이 알고리즘을 바탕으로 양방향 보호협조 평가시스템을 개선하였다. 또한 평가시스템을 이용하여 배전계통을 모델링하고, 분산전원 연계 시 보호기기들 간의 보호협조를 검토하여, 분산전원이 연계된 경우 배전계통에 발생할 수 있는 기술적인 문제점들을 분석하여 그 방안을 제시하였다.

  • As the TC(time-current) curve corresponding to symmetrical time invariant RMS value has been traditionally chosen and used for setting the relay, it has caused the misoperation errors on relay coordination because of CT secondary current being actually an asymmetrical time varying RMS value. In this paper, an algorithm for calculating the relay operating time is developed to study the asymmetrical effect using the step-by-step method. We represent the relay operating time errors between with and without DC offset versus PSM(plug setting multiplier), TMS(time multiplier setting) and X/R ratio. And also we present the correction factor. Finally we confirm the validity of this technique through the case study.

  • This paper discusses the operational characteristic analysis of distance relay depending on the power system parameters in transmission line including FACTS devices. Distance relay requires protective coordination because the FACTS devices change power system parameters to increase power transmission capacity. In this paper, the dynamic operational characteristics of distance relay are analyed for the effect of fault resistance and operation mode of FACTS devices according to the installed points of these devices.

스팀터빈 발전기 비동기 투입 사례연구를 통한 비동기 방지 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Asynchronous Blocking Algorithm through Asynchronous Case Study of Steam Turbine Generator)

  • Asynchronous phenomenon occurs on the synchronous generators under power system when a generator's amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase angle, frequency and waveform etc become different from those of other synchronous generators which can follow instantly varying speed of turbine. Because the amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase frequency and waveform differ from those of other generators with which are to be put into parallel operation due to the change of excitation condition for load sharing and the sharing load change, if reactive current in the internal circuit circulates among generators, the efficiency varies and the stator winding of generators are overheated by resistance loss. When calculation method of protection settings and logic for protection of generator asynchronization will be recommended, a distance relay scheme is commonly used for backup protection. This scheme, called a step distance protection, is comprised of 3 steps for graded zones having different operating time. As for the conventional step distance protection scheme, zone 2 can exceed the ordinary coverage excessively in case of a transformer protection relay especially. In this case, there can be overlapped protection area from a backup protection relay and, therefore, malfunctions can occur when any fault occurs in the overlapped protection area. Distance relays and overcurrent relays are used for backup protection generally, and both relays have normally this problem, the maloperation, caused by a fault in the overlapped protection area. Corresponding to an IEEE standard, this problem can be solved with the modification of the operating time. On the other hand, in Korea, zones are modified to cope with this problem in some specific conditions. These two methods may not be obvious to handle this problem correctly because these methods, modifying the common rules, can cause another coordination problem. To overcome asynchronizing protection, this paper describes an improved backup protection coordination scheme using a new logic that will be suggested.

  • In this paper we propose to develop program witch can improve the detecting capability of impedance fault in power transmission system. It is difficult to setting relay because the different type relays have many setting values to coordinate with each other. The proposed program assist a user in setting relay with convenience grapic environment and database.

Optimal Resource Planning with Interference Coordination for Relay-Based Cellular Networks

  • Multihop relay-based cellular networks are attracting much interest because of their throughput enhancement, coverage extension, and low infrastructure cost. In these networks, relay stations (RSs) between a base station (BS) and mobile stations (MSs) drastically increase the overall spectral efficiency, with improved channel quality for MSs located at the cell edge or in shadow areas, and enhanced throughput of MSs in hot spots. These relay-based networks require an advanced radio resource management scheme because the optimal amount of radio resource for a BS-to-RS link should be allocated according to the MS channel quality and distribution, considering the interference among RSs and neighbor BSs. In this paper, we propose optimal resource planning algorithms that maximize the overall utility of relay-based networks under a proportional fair scheduling policy. In the first phase, we determine an optimal scheduling policy for distributing BS-to-RS link resources to RSs. In the second phase, we determine the optimal amount of the BS-to-RS link resources using the results of the first phase. The proposed algorithms efficiently calculate the optimal amount of resource without exhaustive searches, and their accuracy is verified by comparison with simulation results, in which the algorithms show a perfect match with simulations.

  • Arc flash hazard study is required for the electric power system of industrial plant nowadays. Arc flash incident energy and level are calculated by arc flash hazard study. The arcing fault clearing time is determined by the response time of protection devices. This paper is protection devices coordination study to reduce potential incident energy for industrial electric power system.

  • The fault current has increased due to growth of distributed generations for the large power demand in power distribution system. To solve some problem such as excess of the circuit breaker's cut-off ratings, the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) has been progressed. However, the operational characteristics of the relay is changed by SFCL. Therefore, the proper impedance for the SFCL should be selected to keep protective coordination with the SFCL when SFCL is introduced on the neutral line of main transformer in distribution system. In this paper, the proper normal conducting resistance was suggested to solve the problem in case of the protection coordination with SFCL.

합성 페이드 마진 및 가용율에 근거한 M/W 중계 시스템의 보호비 유도 및 계산 (Derivation of Protection Ratio and its Calculation for Microwave Relay System Based upon Composite Fade Margin and Availability)

  • 본 논문에서는 주파수 조정의 상세 계획에 적용할 목적으로 M/W 중계망의 보호비 유도를 새로이 제안하였으며, 실제 시스템 및 주파수에 대해 동일 및 인접 채널 보호비의 계산 결과를 제시하였다. 가용율 예측에 근거한 제시된 방법은 합성 페이드 마진, 간섭-대-잡음의 비(I/N), 통합 필터 변별도, 시스템 변수로 나타낸 것이다. 계산 결과에 의하면 6.7 GHz, 60 km, 64-QAM, I/N=-6 dB, $BER=10^{-6}$에서 합성 페이드 마진 및 동일 채널 보호비는 각각 25.5 및 50.7 dB을 갖는다. 또한 40 MHz 인접 채널에 대해 통합 필터 변별도 및 인접 채널 보호비는 26.3 및 24.4 dB을 얻는다. 제안된 방법은 M/W 중계망의 보호비 도출에 있어 보다 상세하고 다양한 장치의 변수를 고려한 확장의 용이성 및 실용성 측면에서 이점을 갖는다.
