We measured black carbon concentration in rural area to understand the characteristic of atmospheric aerosol by comparing the black carbon concentration and meteorological factors such as PM10 concentration, relative humidity, temperature and wind velocity. A MAAP (Multi Angle Absorption Photometer) which is one of filter based equipments was used to measure black carbon concentration. Black carbon concentration was measured to be high from April to May and low from June to September. Black carbon concentration was proportional to PM10 concentration. Black carbon concentration was correlated to relative humidity. Black carbon concentration was inversely proportional to wind velocity and temperature. Finally, we suggest that the volume fraction of black carbon in the atmosphere can be estimated from the size, number concentration and absorption coefficient measured using the MAAP.

We considered that characteristics of SO$_2$, concentration level and relations of the meteorological parameters and high pollution concentration from the data measured 7 air quality continuous monitoring stations during 4 years, from 1990 to 1993 in Pusan. The SO$_2$ concentration level showed decreasing trend yearly, it was maximum in Winter, minimum in Summer. The time of SO$_2$ peak concentration lagged from seashore to land because of break-down of the nocturnal inversion layer and seabreeze. Ihe correlations of daily SO$_2$, value between various air quality continuous monitoring stations were highest between Beomcheondong and Meongryundong, lowest between Daeyeondong and Sinpyeongdong because of difference of air Pollution emission sources characteristic. The meteorological parameters affecting SO$_2$ concentration level were minimum temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and air pressure. The SO$_2$ high pollution($\geq$95ppb) occurred almost in Winter, particulaly in such day showing lower wind speed and higher air pressure. Elementary SO$_2$ high Pollution Predictor were high pressure system and stability of lower atmosphere.
The process of evaporation from free water surface was simulated in a large scale environmental chamber under various controlled atmospheric conditions and also was modelled by a new mass transfer model. Six evaporation tests were conducted with increasing wind speed and air temperature in the environmental chamber, and hence the effect of atmosphere parameters on the evaporation process and the corresponding response of water were investigated. Furthermore, based on the experiment results, seven general types of mass transfer models were evaluated firstly, and then a new model consisted of wind speed function and air relative humidity function was proposed and validated. The results show that the free water evaporation is mainly affected by the atmospheric parameters and the evaporation rate increases with the increasing air temperature and wind speed. Both the air and soil temperatures are affected by the energy transformation during water evaporation. The new model can satisfactorily describe the evaporation process from free water surface under different atmospheric conditions.
A real-time quality control system for meteorological data (air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and precipitation) measured by an integrated meteorological sensor has been developed based on comparison of quality control procedures for meteorological data that were developed by the World Meteorological Organization and the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), using time series and statistical analysis of a 12-year meteorological data set observed from 2000 to 2011 at the Incheon site in Korea. The quality control system includes missing value, physical limit, step, internal consistency, persistence, and climate range tests. Flags indicating good, doubtful, erroneous, not checked, or missing values were added to the raw data after the quality control procedure. The climate range test was applied to the monthly data for air temperature and pressure, and its threshold values were modified from ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ and ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ to ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ and ${\pm}6{\sigma}$, respectively, in order to consider extreme phenomena such as heat waves and typhoons. In addition, the threshold values of the step test for air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, and wind speed were modified to $0.7^{\circ}C$, 0.4 hPa, 5.9%, and $4.6m\;s^{-1}$, respectively, through standard deviation analysis of step difference according to their averaging period. The modified quality control system was applied to the meteorological data observed by the Weather Information Service Engine in March 2014 and exhibited improved performance compared to the KMA procedures.

Background: Ginsenosides, which have various physiological activities, are known to be abundant in the leaves and roots of ginseng. Ginseng sprouts can be used as a fresh vegetable and roots, stems, and leaves of ginseng can be consumed. This study aimed to investigate the effect of carbon dioxide treatment and the modified atmosphere (MA) packaging method in suppressing quality deterioration during the distribution of ginseng sprouts. Methods and Results: Ginseng sprouts were packed using Styrofoam, barrier film + non gas treatment, barrier film + gas treatment, 15 ㎛ polyamide (PA) double film + non gas treatment, 15 ㎛ PA double film + gas treatment, 25 ㎛ PA film + non gas treatment, or 25 ㎛ PA film + gas treatment. Quality parameters including gas composition, relative humidity, chlorophyll SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development) value, firmness, and rate of quality loss in ginseng sprouts were monitored at the following temperatures: 20℃, and 10℃. Ginseng sprouts packaged with 25 ㎛ PA film showed loss in quality because of wilting owing to low relative humidity within the film. Chlorophyll and firmness did not differ between film and gas treatments. The time point at which the combined loss from softening and decay owing to fungal, and bacterial infection and wilt reached 20% was considered the limit of distribution. At 20℃, the packaging not included in the 20% distribution loss rate limit or up to 7 days was 15 ㎛ PA double film + gas treatment. At 10℃, the packaging not included in the 20% distribution loss rate limit for up to 18 days were barrier film + gas treatment and 15 ㎛ PA double film + gas treatment. Conclusions: The film packaging suitable for the distribution of ginseng sprouts was found to be the barrier film and PA film with low gas permeability and maintaining hygroscopicity at 95% relative humidity. To prevent the loss in quality of ginseng sprouts, gas treatment (8% of O2 and 18% of CO2) in the film was found to be more suitable than no gas treatment for inhibition of decay.
Based on the new climate normals (1991~2020), annual mean, maximum and minimum temperature is 12.5℃, 18.2℃, and 7.7℃, respectively while annual precipitation is 1,331.7 mm, the annual mean wind speed is 2.0 m s-1, and the relative humidity is 67.8% in the Republic of Korea. Compared to 1981~2010 normal, annual mean temperature increased by 0.2℃, maximum and minimum temperatures increased by 0.3℃, while the amount of precipitation (0.7%) and relative humidity (1.1%) decreased. There was no distinct change in annual mean wind speed. The spatial range of the annual mean temperature in the new normals is large from 7.1 to 16.9℃. Annual precipitation showed a high regional variability, ranging from 787.3 to 2,030.0 mm. The annual mean relative humidity decreased at most weather stations due to the rise in temperature, and the annual mean wind speed did not show any distinct difference between the new and old normals. With the addition of a warmer decade (2011~2020), temperatures all increased consistently and in particular, the increase in the maximum temperature, which had not significantly changed in previous decades, was evident. The increasing trend of annual and summer precipitation by the 2010s has disappeared in the new normals. Among extreme climate indices, MxT30 (Daily maximum temperature ≥ 33℃ days), MnT25 (Daily minimum temperature ≥ 25℃ days), and PH30 (1 hour maximum precipitation ≥ 30 mm days) increased while MnT-10 (Daily minimum temperature < -10℃ days) and W13.9 (Daily maximum wind speed ≥ 13.9 m/s days) decreased at a statistically significant level. It is thought that a detailed study on the different trends of climate elements and extreme climate indices by region should be conducted in the future.

With the aim to develop the monitoring technology on background atmosphere and climate change over Korean Peninsula, observations and studies on chemical, physical and optical properties of the atmospheric aerosols are made. Aerosol number concentration are measured with Optical Particle Counter from 2001 to 2003 at Gosan for 8 size intervals from 0.3 to $25{\mu}m$ diameter range. For the seasonal variation, the number concentration of coarse particles in spring at Gosan was higher than other seasons due to the influence of sand storm in spring. There is no significant correlations between fine particles ($0.3{\sim}0.5{\mu}m$) and meteorological parameters, such as relative humidity, wind speed and visual range, while the correlation between the number concentration of small particles ($0.5{\sim}2.23{\mu}m$) and relative humidity showed a positive value. This trend was inversed for the case of wind speed: aerosol number concentration showed a small decreasing tendency with increasing wind speed for small particles but the high wind speed in winter season increased coarse particle concentration. Finally, Particles most efficient in light extinction were found to be at the size of about $0.5{\sim}1{\mu}m$.
This study was conducted to evaluate the level of atmospheric heavy metals and the relationship of that concentration with weather conditions. This research monitored the concentration of Total Suspended Particulates (TSP) at every three hours by using High Volume Air Sampler from December 24th, of 1995 to Febuary 20th, 1996 in Kimhae area, which recently became a rapidly growing residential and industrial sitc. The items such as air-temperature, relative humidity, radition, wind speed, and wind direction were monitored by using Atmospheric Weather System at the same time. From the collected TSP, the concentration of heavy metals were analyzed by using the Atomic Absorption Spcetrophotometry. The mean concentration of TSP was 110.4 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$, and the mean concentration of lead (Pb), copper(Cu), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), cadmium (Cd), were 0.837 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$, 0486 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$, 0.264$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$). The concentration of Pb and Mn was higher in the moring and that of Cu, Cr and Cd was higher in the afternoon and the evening. Regarding the relationship between the concentration of pollutants and weather condition, the-concentration TSP revealed positive correlation with temperature, humidity, wind speed, but negative correlation with tradition (p<0.01). The concentration of Mn revealed positive correlation with temperature and humidity, but negative correlation with wind speed (p<0.01). And the the concentration of pollutants and weather condition revealed higher correlation within the same time period. In summary, the paralleled mornitoring of air conditions and weather condition should be recommended to. get the correct informations concerning the pollution and to prevent the deterioration of air conditions.
We developed a S/W system to simulate the orbit tracking data as nearly equal as the real data obtained at the tracking antenna by modeling various causes that could have effects on the tracking data (range, range rate, azimuth, elevation) of an artificial satellite. Using the S/W developed we produced delay values of tracking data due to the light-time effect and the terrestrial atmosphere. According to the simulation results due to the Earth atmosphere, the values delayed by the troposhpere were increased as the temperature, relative humidity, and pressure of the troposphere are more larger. However, delay values due to the ionosphere were dependent on both the maximum electron density and the frequencies used. They are more and more increased as the maximum electron density and frequency are more larger. And the delaying values by the light-time effect are more larger by the fast orbital motion as the altitude of an artificial satellite is more lower.

This study aims to produce fundamental database for Environment Impact Assessment by monitoring vertical structure of the atmosphere due to the mountain valley wind in spring season. For this, we observed surface and upper meteorological elements in Sangin-dong, Daegu using the rawinsonde and automatic weather system(AWS). In Sangin-dong, the weather condition was largely affected by mountains when compared to city center. The air temperature was low during the night time and day break, and similar to that of city center during the day time. Relative humidity also showed similar trend; high during the night time and day break and similar to that of city center during the day time. Solar radiation was higher than the city, and the daily maximum temperature was observed later than the city. The synoptic wind during the measurement period was west wind. But during the day time, the west wind was joined by the prevailing wind to become stronger than the night time. During the night time and daybreak, the impact of mountain wind lowered the overall temperature, showing strong geographical influence. The vertical structure of the atmosphere in Dalbi valley, Sangin-dong had a sharp change in air temperature, relative humidity, potential temperature and equivalent potential temperature when measured at the upper part of the mixing layer height. The mixing depth was formed at maximum 1896m above the ground, and in the night time, the inversion layer was formed by radiational cooling and cold mountain wind.
