  • Many embedded real-time systems have adopted processors supported with dynamic voltage scaling(DVS) recently. Power is one of the important metrics for optimization in the design and operation of embedded real-time systems. We can save considerable energy by using slowdown of processor supported with DVS. In this paper, we propose heuristic algorithms to calculate task slowdown factors for an efficient energy consumption in embedded real-time systems with task synchronization. The previous algorithm has a following constraint : given the tasks are ordered in a nondecreasing order of their relative deadline, the task slowdown factors computed are in a nonincreasing order. In this paper, we relax the constraint and propose heuristic algorithms which have the same time complexity that previous algorithm has and can save more energy. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithms are energy efficient.

  • This paper aims at a better understanding of the concept of korean separable syntactic atom, of which inner parts is separable in syntax, and at examining whether or not this concept can apply to derivatives, functional complex constructions, idiomatic expressions in korean. I defined a syntactic atom as a minimum unit which is drawn directly from lexicon and then is applied to syntactic rules. And I insist that so-called 'lexical island constraint' has some problems and that the syntactic rules can be applied to inner parts of syntactic atom, if the syntactic rules is irrelevant to new syntactic atom formation. The greater part of derivatives is non-separable syntactic atoms. But the likes of '반짝거리다', '죄송스럽다', '칭얼대다' are the separable syntactic atoms. The degree of separability of them is different in the insertion of korean particles or negative adverbs and the omission of root of sytactic atom. The derivatives of 'X-적', of which roots is regular nominal roots, permit the syntactic link between roots and the syntactic combination of the root and its argument. These kinds of derivatives is separable syntactic atoms. Also the derivatives of 'bracket paradox' and 'X-답-' derivatives is separable syntactic atoms. All functional complex constructions are not separable syntactic atoms. According to the degree of grammaticalization, inner parts of some are separable, some is non-separable. Separable functional complex constructions only permit the switching of endings or Josas but not application of other syntactic rules. All idiomatic expressions which are composed of two or more syntactic atoms are separable syntactic atoms. Some of them have so strong separability to allow the insertion of syntactic atom, adverb or adnominal modification and the noun in idiomatic expression to become the head of the relative clause. And some idiomatic expressions which have weak separability only permit interrogative's substitution or form change in fraction of idiomatic expressions.

  • The guide-ways of precision machine tools are one of important element of machine tools. It has usually a pair of surfaces for constraint of one direction with bearing. In the case of precision machine tools, non-contact bearing such as hydrostatic bearing and aerostatic bearing is adopted usually. In this case, profiles of rails has effect on straightness and the clearance of bearing has effect on stiffness of guide way, which changes to higher if clearance changes to smaller. The clearance is varied along moving table according to relative distance of pair of rails. The relative distance of pair of rail can be divided by three properties. First and second properties are straightness of each pair of rail and bearing pad. And, third is parallelism about pair of rails and pairs of bearing pad. There are several methods for measuring straightness of each surface such as reversal method, sequential two point method, and way straightness. These straightness measuring methods are always acquiring deviation of profile from eliminating linear fitted inclined line and don't have the information of parallelism. Therefore, to get the small clearance for high stiffness, the straightness of rail and bearing pad and parallelism about pair of rails and pair of bearing pads are measured for correction such as regrinding, reassembling and lapping. In this research, new and easy method for measuring parallelism of pair of rails is suggested. Two displacement probe and sensor stage, which is carry on the displacement sensor, are needed. The simulation and experiment was accomplished about pair of horizontal guide way to confirm the measurement of parallelism. And, the third probe is added to measure the straightness of each rails by sequential two point method. From the estimation of combined these two methods, it is confirmed that the profiles of a pairs of rails can be measured.

  • Head-eye calibration is a process for estimating the unknown orientation and position of a camera with respect to a mobile platform, such as a robot wrist. We present a new head-eye calibration technique which can be applied for platforms with rather limited motion capability In particular, the proposed calibration technique can be applied to find the relative orientation of a camera mounted on a linear translation platform which does not have rotation capability. The algorithm find the rotation using a calibration data obtained from pure Translation of a camera along two different axes We have derived a calibration algorithm exploiting the rectification technique in such a way that the rectified images should satisfy the epipolar constraint. We present the calibration procedure for both the rotation and the translation components of a camera relative to the platform coordinates. The efficacy of the algorithm is demonstrated through simulations and real experiments.

  • This paper shows the results of a series of model bests on the behavior of single steel pipe pile which is subjected to lateral load in Nak-dong river sand. The purpose of the present paper is to estimate the effect of Non -homogeneous soil, constraint condition of pile head, lateral load velocity, relative density of soil, embedded pile length, and flexural stiffness of pile on the behavior of single pile which is embedded in Nak-dong river strand. These effects can be quantined only by the results of model tests. The nonlinear responses of lateral loadieflection relationships are fitted to 2nd polynomial equations by model tests results. Also, the lateral load of a deflection, yield and ultimate lateral load max. bending moment, and yield bending moment can be expressed as exponential function in terms of relative density and deflection ratio. By comparing Brom's results with model results on the lateral ultimate load, it is found that short and long pile show the contrary results with each other. The contrary results are due to the smaller assumed soil reaction than the soil reaction of the Nakiong river sand at deep point. By comparing lateral behavior on the homogeneous soil with non-homogeneous soil, it is shown that lateral loadieflection relationship is very dependent on the upper relative density. This phenomenon is shown remarkably as the difference between upper and lower relative density increases.

  • In this paper, characteristics of the motions of a human arm are investigated experimentally. When the conditions of the target point are restricted, human adjusts its trajectory and velocity pattern of the arm to fit the conditions skillfully. The purpose of this work is to examine the characteristics of the trajectory, velocity pattern, and the size of the duration in the following cases. First, we examine the case of point-to-point motion. The results are consistent with the minimum jerk theory. However, individual differences in the length of the duration can be observed in the experiment. Second, we examine the case which requires accuracy of positioning at the target point. It is found that the velocity pattern differs from the bell shaped pattern explained by the minimum jerk theory, and has its peak in the first half of the duration. When higher accuracy of the positioning is required, learning effects can be observed. Finally, to examine the case which requires constraint of the arm posture at the target point, we conduct experiments of a human trying to grasp a cup. It is considered that this motion consists of two steps : one is the positioning motion of the person in order to start the grasping motion, the other is the grasping motion of the human's hand approaching toward the cup and grasping it. In addition, two representative velocity patterns are observed : one is the similar velocity pattern explained in the above experiment, the other is the velocity pattern which has its relative maximum in the latter half of the duration.

  • This study investigates the welfare implications of BTL projects using a general equilibrium model with the public sector and public-private partnerships. We show that when the government is not allowed to run budget deficits but private firms is able to overcome the financial constraint, BTL projects performed by public-private partnerships (PPPs) could be a good alternative and improve the welfare of the model economy. This paper quantitatively investigates excessive expansion of PPP projects and several alternatives to retrieve welfare losses caused by such an expansion. Assuming that future rents of BTL projects are not taken into account, we find the welfare losses up to 20 percent relative to conventional government projects. Finally, we show that it would be possible to reduce the losses by transforming the fully depreciated capital stock of the government projects into much smaller new PPP projects.

  • This paper addresses the problem of a torch path generation for the 2D laser cutting of a stock plate nested with resular or irregular parts. Under the constaint of the relative positions of parts enforced by nesting, the developed torch path algorithm generate feasible cutting path. In this paper, the basic object is a polygon( a many-slide figure) with holes. A part may be represented as a number of line segments connected end-to-end in counterclockwise order, and formed a closed contour as requied for cutting paths. The objective is to tranverse this cutting contours with a minimum path length. This paper proposes a simulated annealing based dtorch path algorithm, that is an improved version of previously suggested TSP models. Since everypiercing point of parts is not fixed in advance, the algorithm solves as relazed optimization problem for the constraint, thich is one of the main features of the proposed algorithm. For aolving the torch path optimization problem, an efficient generation mechanism of neighborhood structure and as annealing shedule were introduced. In this way, a global solution can be obtained in a reasonable time. Seveeral examples are represented to ilustrate the method.

  • When the contribution of lightweight components to the total energy of a system is small, tole inertia effects are sometimes ignored by replacing them to massless links. For example, a revolute-spherical massless link generates two kinematic constraint equations between adjacent bodies and allows four relative degrees of freedom. In this paper, to implement a massless link systematically in a computer program using the velocity transformation technique, the velocity transformation matrix of massless links is derived and numerically implemented. The velocity transformation matrix for a revolute-spherical massless link and a revolute-universal massless link are appeared as a 6$\times$4 matrix and a 6$\times$3 matrix, respectively. A massless link model in a suspension composite joint transmitting external forces is also developed and the numerical efficiency of the proposed model is compared to a conventional multibody model. For a massless link transmitting external forces, forces acting on links are resolved and transmitted to the attached points with a quasi-static assumption. Numerical examples are presented to verify the formulation.

  • In the existing literature, most of the purchasing models were developed only for retailers problem ignoring the constraint of storage capacity of retailers shop/showroom. In this paper, we have developed a deterministic model of wholesaler-retailers' problem of single product. The storage capacity of wholesaler's warehouse/showroom and retailers' showroom/shop are assumed to be finite. The items are transported from wholesaler's warehouse to retailers' Own Warehouse (OW) in a lot. The customer's demand is assumed to be displayed inventory level dependent. Demands are met from OW and that spaces of OW will immediately be filled by shifting the same amount from the Rented Warehouse (RW) till the RW is empty. The time duration between selling from OW and filling up its space by new ones from RW is negligible. According to relative size of the retailers' existing (own) warehouse capacity and the demand factors, different scenarios are identified. Our objectives are to optimize the cost functions of wholesaler and two retailers separately. To solve this problem, a real coded Genetic Algorithm (GA) with roulette wheel selection/reproduction, whole arithmetic crossover and non-uniform mutation is developed. Finally a numerical example is presented to illustrate the results for different scenarios. To compare the results of GA, Generalised Reduced Gradient Method has been used for the problem. Also, a sensitivity analysis has been performed to study the variations of the optimal average cost with respect to the different parameters.
