  • This study investigates the possibility of seasonal prediction for tropical cyclone activity in the western North Pacific by using a dynamical modeling approach. We use data from the SMIP/HFP (Seasonal Prediction Model Inter-comparison Project/Historical Forecast Project) experiment with the Korea Meteorological Administration's GDAPS (Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System) T106 model, focusing our analysis on model-generated tropical cyclones. It is found that the prediction depends primarily on the tropical cyclone (TC) detecting criteria. Additionally, a scaling factor and a different weighting to each ensemble member are found to be essential for the best predictions of summertime TC activity. This approach indeed shows a certain skill not only in the category forecast but in the standard verifications such as Brier score and relative operating characteristics (ROC).

  • This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new computer vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on a model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camers the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is tested experimentally in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.

  • A method to compute the reactive powers of the added buses by the decoupled UPFC model for the optimal voltage profile is presented, by which the voltage magnitudes of PQ buses can get closer to the reference value(usually one p.u.). The performance index for assessing how much the voltage magnitude is closer to the reference value is defined as the squared sum of the present voltage minus the reference voltage multiplied by the weighting number associated with the relative importance of the buses. Numerical example in a 10-unit 39-bus power system with 2 UPFC's shows that the performance index can be very much reduced by operating multi UPFC's with the reactive powers for the optimal voltage profile proposed in this paper.

  • Up to the present, the evaluation measures in the production and inventory management have been studied under the pre-condition that the costs for major factors(e.g,. cost of carrying inventory, cost of demand shortage) are given easily, although in practice, it is difficult. The case in which multiple participants have a different viewpoints in production and inventory management has not been studied, in spite of its frequent occurrence. This study suggests a production and inventory model with multiple objectives corresponding to major factors and the related interactive algorithm based on the preference structures of participants. The problem can be solved through a weighting vector generated by an interaction with participants. The concept of equity is also used in order to guarantee the reasonable distribution of group utility in determining the individual relative weights of participants. This study includes the reality of the model and the decision process in the production and inventory management.

  • The problems of discontinuous layer interface are very important in the algorithm and programming for the analysis of multi-layered consolidation using a numerical analysis, finite difference method(F.D,M.). Better results can be obtained by the process for discontinuous layer interface, since it can help consolidation analysis to model the actual ground Explicit method is simple for analysis algorithm and convenient for use except for applying the operator Crank-Nicolson method represents implicit method, which have different analysis method according to weighting factor. This method uses different algorithm according to dimension. And, this paper uses alternative direction implicit method. The purpose of this paper provides an efficient computer algorithm based on numerical analysis using finite difference method which account for multi-layered soils with confined aquifer to determine the degree of consolidation and excess pore pressures relative to time and positions more realistically.

  • Unmanned ground vehicles(UGVs) are expected to play a key role in the future army. These UGVs would be used for weapons platforms. logistics carriers, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition in the rough terrain. Most of path planning methodologies for UGVs offer an optimal or sub-optimal shortest-path in a 20 space. However, those methodologies do not consider increment and reduction effects of relative distance when a UGV climbs up or goes down in the slope of rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a novel path planning methodology using the modified distance transform algorithm. Our proposed path planning methodology employs two kinds of map. One is binary obstacle map. The other is the DEM. With these two maps, the modified distance transform algorithm in which distance between cells is increased or decreased by weighting function of slope is suggested. The proposed methodology is verified by various simulations on the randomly generated DEM and obstacle map.

  • When merging various datasets the perennial problem of relative weighting arises. In case of two datasets an iterative algorithm has been developed recently that allows the rigorous determination of optimal variance components of type repro-BIQUUE even for large amounts of data, along with the estimation of the joint parameters. Here we shall present this new algorithm, and show its versatility in an example that will entail the merging of two regional geoid estimates (derived from EGM 96 and CHAMP) in terms of certain series expansions which have been proven previously to belong to the most efficient ones (e.g., wavelets, Hardy's multi-quadrics, etc.). Future attempts will be devoted to the sequential merging of altimeter and tide gauge data.

  • New formation flight controller for unmanned aerial vehicles is proposed. A behavioral decentralized control approach called formation geometry center control is adopted. Trajectory tracking as well as formation geometry keeping are the purpose of the formation flight, and therefore two controllers are designed: a trajectory tracking controller for reference trajectory tracking, and a position controller for formation geometry keeping. Each controller is designed using Lyapunov stability theorem to guarantee the asymptotic stability. Formation flight controller is finally obtained by combining the trajectory tracking controller and the formation geometry keeping controller using a weighting parameter that depends on the relative distance error between unmanned aerial vehicles. Numerical simulations are performed to validate the performance of the proposed controller.

  • This paper presents the Two-Phase Neural Network(TPNN) to slove the Optimal Economic Environmental Dispatch problem of thermal generating units in electric power system. The TPNN, Compared with other Neural Networks, is very accurate and it takes smaller computer time for a optimization problem to converge. In this work, in order to provide useful information to the system operator, we are used the total environmental weight and relative weighting of individual insults(e.g., $SO_2$, $NO_X$ and $CO_2$) also, presented the simulation results of the dispatch changes according to the weights. The Two-Phase Neural Network is tested on a 11-unit 3-pollutant system to prove of effectiveness and applicability.
