  • For the search of unified law of moisture movement in wood, moisture distribution of Korean red pine at non-steady state was investigated. We assume that the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) in wood depends on only temperature and relative humidity, it can be control in temperature and humidity chamber. If temperature is constant and humidity or vapor pressure is changed with sin curve shape at adequate cycles, EMC in chamber can be changed as well with sin-curve shape. The setup condition of a non-steady state in humidity control chambers is a constant temperature at $20^{\circ}C$ and 15+10 sin ${\omega}t$ percent EMC. It can be found that the distribution of moisture in the specimen with varying relative humidity are illustrated various types. Moisture in wood is complicated and vibrates with the moisture sorption process. Considering a unified law of moisture movement in wood, it is considered that the most important fact is to search the method of precise diffusion & transfer coefficients.

  • A capacitive humidity sensor is used as a test device to characterize the performance of iodine doped polyphenylacetylene(PPA) thin films in relative humidity sensing application In comparison with undoped PPA thin films. the iodine doped PPA films showed higher sensitivity(0.19pF/%RH), better linearity(4.2%FS), much lower hysteresis and lower temperature coefficients(0.043 $\sim$ 0.067pF/$^{\circ}C$) over a wide range of relative humidity.

  • Broad-band RAM's (Radar absorbing materials) are designed by multi-layered lossy dielectrics. The depth, the relative permittivity and the loss tangent of each layer are optimized in order to meet the required reflective power over the specified frequency range using a genetic algorithm. The reflection coefficients are calculated by the continued fraction method. A new population model of the partial initialization method during iterations is applied for the multi-modal functions to enhance the performance of the genetic algorithm. The optimal RAN's are designed by setting the relative permittivity and the loss tangent of the dielectrics as a funtion of the frequency over 5~20GHz.

  • This Paper presents a high impedance fault (HIF) detection algorithm of distribution systems using wavelet transform. Two HIFs on dry soil and sandy soil were simulated on various load conditions in 22.9 kV distribution systems using EMTP, and the current wavelets were decomposed by wavelet transform. The current root mean square(rms) change, the index change rate and the relative amplitude change were used as the multi-criteria for a HIF detection. The index change rate and the relative amplitude were made using the wavelet coefficients.

  • This paper describes the Weekly Load Forecasting Expert System(Named WLoFy) which was developed and implemented for Korea Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). WLoFy was designed to provide user oriented features with a graphical user interface to improve the user interaction. The various forecasting models such as exponential smoothing, multiple regression, artificial nerual networks, rult-based model, and relative coefficient model also have been included in WLofy to increase the forecasting accuracy. The simulation based on historical data shows that the weekly forecasting results form WLoFy is an improvement when compared to the results from the conventional methods. Especially the forecasting accuracy on special days has been improved remakably.

  • We report the results of a preliminary investigation on capacitive humidity sensors using iodine-doped polyphenylacetylene(PPA) thin films. PPA was prepared from phenylacetylene(PA), chemically doped with iodine, and characterized by DSC, $^1H$-NMR and FTIR spectra. The iodine-doped PPA sensors showed a sensitivity of 0.20pF/%RH, a linearity of 3.8%FS, a negligible hysteresis, and a low temperature coefficients of $0.043~0.067pF/^{\circ}C$ over a wide range of relative humidity. These results are expected to open up the possibility of iodine-doped PPA thin films as relative humidity sensors.

  • We generate ring class fields of imaginary quadratic fields in terms of the special values of certain eta-quotients, which are related to the relative norms of Siegel-Ramachandra invariants. These give us minimal polynomials with relatively small coefficients from which we are able to solve certain quadratic Diophantine equations concerning non-convenient numbers.

  • Carbon-ferrite microwave absorbers were designed experimentally and fabricated trialy, as a result of which the relative frequency bandwith of 7.3 to 8.2% were obtained under the tolerance limits of the reflection coefficients lower than -20 dB, and the matching thickness becomes 1.4 to 1.6mm, which is significantly thinner than that of the conventional ones. Furthermore, attenuation has been founded by measuring the material constants of the microwave absorbers for microwave oven and the results are compared and discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the diffusion coefficients of carbon dioxide for various concrete mixtures. The test results indicate that the diffusion coefficient increases with the increase of water-cement ratio. The diffusion coefficient decreases with the increase of relative humidity at the same water-cement ratio. The diffusion of carbon dioxide reached the steady-state within about five hours after exposure. It was found that the diffusion coefficient of cement paste is larger then that of concrete or mortar. The quantitative values of diffusivity of carbon dioxide in this study will allow more realistic assessment of carbonation depth in concrete structures.

  • The amount of Pinus rigida pollen deposition was hourly measured by Durhan's pollen trap in Seoul National University during May 9∼16 o'clock and 9∼15, 1988. The peak times or pollen deposition were 9∼10 o'clock and 16∼17 o'clock. The correlation coefficients between pollen deposition and mean temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed were 0.625, -0.655 and 0.418 respectively, It is thought that pollen maturation rate is correlated with mean temperature and the pollen deposition with increasing wind speed.
