  • This study evaluates three distinct observation methods, CRDS, OA-ICOS, and OF-CEAS, in greenhouse gas monitoring equipment for atmospheric CO2 and CH4 concentrations. The assessment encompasses fundamental performance, high-concentration measurement accuracy, calibration methods, and the impact of atmospheric humidity on measurement accuracy. Results indicate that within a range of approximately 500 ppm, all three devices demonstrate high accuracy and linearity. However, beyond 1000 ppm, CO2 accuracy sharply declines (84%), emphasizing the need for caution when interpreting high-concentration CO2 data. An analysis of calibration methods reveals that both CO2 and CH4 measurements achieve high accuracy and linearity through 1-point calibration, suggesting that multi-point calibration is not imperative for precision. In dynamic atmospheric conditions with significant CO2 and CH4 concentration variations, a 1-point calibration suffices for reliable data (99% accuracy). The evaluation of humidity impact demonstrates that humidity removal devices significantly reduce air moisture levels, yet this has a negligible effect on dry CO2 concentrations (less than 0.5% relative error). All three observation method instruments, which have integrated humidity correction to calculate dry CO2 concentrations, exhibit minor sensitivity to humidity removal devices, implying that additional removal devices may not be essential. Consequently, this study offers valuable insights for comparing data from different measurement devices and provides crucial information to consider in the operation of monitoring sites.

  • The aim of this paper is to develop and verify the system which can detect heart rate during exercise by using conductive fabric electrode and transportable measurement module. The experiment was performed under 4 conditions(resting, walking, jogging, running) and 18 subjects data are used. By using the ECG measurement system used in cardiac stress testing as reference value in order to verify the accuracy of the developed system, the relative error and correlation coefficient was calculated for each subject at every 3 seconds. The results have shown that the high correlation between the developed system and the reference system for detecting heart rate during exercise. Relative error and correlation coefficient are 2.27% and 0.9877, respectively. 7 subjects data are omitted in these calculations because of severe noises. Therefore, it is expected that this system could be used as a health monitoring system in ubiquitous environment in the future.

  • In this paper, we propose a two-step noise compensation algorithm in feature extraction for achieving robust speech recognition. The proposed method frees us from requiring a priori information on noisy environments and is simple to implement. First, in frequency domain, the Harmonics-based Spectral Subtraction (HSS) is applied so that it reduces the additive background noise and makes the shape of harmonics in speech spectrum more pronounced. We then apply a judiciously weighted variance Feature Vector Normalization (FVN) to compensate for both the channel distortion and additive noise. The weighted variance FVN compensates for the variance mismatch in both the speech and the non-speech regions respectively. Representative performance evaluation using Aurora 2 database shows that the proposed method yields 27.18% relative improvement in accuracy under a multi-noise training task and 57.94% relative improvement under a clean training task.

  • A determinated position with GPS (Global Positioning System) data processing is the position of the phase center of a GPS antenna. The phase center of a GPS antenna is. not a stable point and depends on the azimuth and elevation angles of GPS satellites. It is known that the phase center variations (PCV) of a GPS antenna are greater in the vertical than the horizontal directions. The PCV calibration models for a GPS. antenna has two approaches: relative and absolute. In this study. we compared the two calibration models using the six operational permanent GPS stations in South Korea and analysed the PCV of each station. In addition, we. tested two different kinds of GPS antennas and compared the results. The accuracy and precision of the relative calibration was worse than the absolute calibration.

  • External linkage type spine motion analysis was developed for relative trunk motion respect to the pelvis. A special programs for calculation of the relative angular motion and for graphical display were also developed. The developed device assured its accuracy and conveniency after application to 15 normal vol- unteers. Compare to the normal subjects, 18 patients treated with fixations and decompression surgery showed relatively large coupling motion. Optimal trajectory of the trunk motion derived from mathematical model in flexion and extension matched well with measurement for normal subjects.

  • The current paper presents application of a new analytic solution in general relative motion to spacecraft formation flying in an elliptic orbit. The calculus of variations is used to analytically find optimal trajectories and controls for the given problem. The inverse of the fundamental matrix associated with the dynamic equations is not required for the solution in the current study. It is verified that the optimal thrust vector is a function of the fundamental matrix of the given state equations. The cost function and the state vector during the reconfiguration can be analytically obtained as well. The results predict the form of optimal solutions in advance without having to solve the problem. Numerical simulation shows the brevity and the accuracy of the general analytic solutions developed in the current paper.

  • Forces and moments delivered by a straight wire connecting two orthodontic brackets are statically indeterminate and cannot be estimated using the classical equations of static equilibrium. To identify the mechanics of such two-bracket systems, Burstone and Koenig used the principles of linear beam theory to estimate the resulting force systems. In the original publication, however, it remains unclear how the force systems were calculated because no reference or computational details on the underlying principles have been provided. Using the moment carry-over principle and the relative angulation of the brackets, a formula was derived to calculate the relative moments of the two brackets. Because of the moment equilibrium, the vertical forces that exist as a force-couple on the two brackets can also be calculated. The accuracy of the proposed approach can be validated using previously published empirical data.

  • This paper presents new algorithms equivalencing large-scale power systems. Generators are identified to the coherent groups according to the relation factors, which represent the relative coupling degree between the generators. While the groups are identified, participation numbers, which are the measure of the relative participation of the generators in the group, are obtained. All generators and controllers in the group are weighted by participation numbers and aggregated to construct a dynamic equivalent. The proposed algorithms are applied to a 272-machine Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)'s system. The enclosed results indicate the accuracy and usefulness of the algorithms.

  • In this paper, we derive an algorithm and develope a computer program which analyze rapidly and precisely the inverse kinematics of robotic mechanism with spatial complex chain structure based on the relative coordinates. We represent the inverse kinematic problem as an optimization problem with the kinematic constraint equations. The inverse kinematic analysis algorithm, therefore, consists of two algorithms, the main, an optimization algorithm finding the motion of independent joints from that of an end-effector and the sub, a forward kinematic analysis algorithm computing the motion of dependent joints. We accomplish simulations for the investigation upon the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm.

  • This paper proposes using the multi-type sensor vibration measurements, such as from a relative displacement sensors and a traditional accelerometer for the damage detection of shear connectors in composite bridge under moving loads. Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) spectra of these responses will be fused with a data fusion approach i.e., Dempster-Shafer method, to detect the damage of shear connectors. Experimental studies on a composite bridge model in the laboratory are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of using the proposed approach in detecting the damage of shear connectors in composite bridges. Both undamaged and damaged scenarios are considered. The detection results with the data fusion of multi-type sensor measurements show a more reliable and robust performance and accuracy, avoiding the false identifications.
