  • This paper aims to present some ideas for implementation of Uncertain Relational Databases (URD) which are extensions of classical relational databases. Our system firstly is based on possibility distribution and probability theory to represent and manipulate fuzzy and probabilistic information, secondly adopts flexible mechanisms that allow the management of uncertain data through the resources provided by both available relational database management systems and front-end interfaces, and lastly chooses dynamic SQL to enhance versatility and adjustability of systems.

  • As XML documents become popular in the World Wide Web, a lot of research is being done on XML storage systems that store and manage XML documents using existing DBMSS. However, most of them have been done in the context of relational DBMSS rather than object-relational DBMSS, which have more powerful modeling capability than relational ones. In this paper, we design and implement an XML storage system, ODYSSEUS/XMLStore, for the ODYSSEUS object-relational DBMS that has been under development at KAIST. First, we analyze the mapping from the structure of XML documents to the relational or object-relational database schema. Second, we propose a method for describing the mapping analyzed using a standard language, XML Schema. Third, we propose a storage structure for storing the mapping information specified by the users in the database. Fourth, we propose detailed algorithms for storing XML documents in the relational or object-relational database based on the mapping information provided by the users.

  • This paper presents a new benchmark for object-relational database systems, which are regarded as the next-generation database system. This benchmark has been developed to evaluate system performance peculiar to object-relational database systems. The design philosophy, test databases, an test queries of the benchmark are presented. This benchmark features scaleability, use of a synthesized database only, and a query-oriented evaluation. We have implemented his benchmark with two commerical object-relational database systems and the experimental results are also reported.

  • We have to convert XML DTD into relational database schema for storing XML Document at relational database. Hybrid inlining algorithm are used for converting XML DTD to relational database schema. But this method have some problem. That is the relational database schema have N:N relationship are created according this method are not satisfied with third normal from. Therefore, We proposed Extended Hybrid inlining algorithm for solving this problem in this paper.

  • Fashion merchandiser profession is a highly information-intensive job. In fact, a merchandiser is to acquire a variety of information mainly from external environment and to analyze it in order to come to an informed decision. Despite a significant amount of past studies on environment scanning, their main concern was of managerial work. And, some fashion design studies have only touched the issue of information source in a descriptive tone. Here, we attempt to analyze empirically fashion merchandisers' environmental scanning activities. Our results can be stated as follows : 1) Though the quality of information source has a positive relationship with its use, the accessibility does not. 2) There is no significant difference between the use of relational source and the use of non-relational source. 3) Internet is being used more at the initial stage(opening) of information seeking than at the orientation and consolidation stage.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to examine the interaction effects of organizational characteristics as contextual variables on the relationship between relational exchange characteristics and ASP service performance. The effect of relational exchange characteristics on ASP service performance has been also investigated. For this purposes, we developed a research model based on the literature reviews of ASP services, relational exchange theory, and contingency theory. A total of 106 usable survey responses from companies using ASP services has been analyzed in the study. The findings indicate that (1) flexibility and partnership had a positive influence upon noneconomic profit, (2) information sharing had a positive influence upon economic profit, (3) organizational size and IS maturity had a partial moderating effect on the relationship between relational exchange characteristics and ASP service performance, and (4) the subgroup analysis, conducted to determine the exact nature of interaction effect, reveals that the relationship between relational exchange characteristics and noneconomic profit is significantly stronger with a high level of organizational size than with a low level, and that the relationship between relational exchange characteristics and economic profit is significantly stronger with a low level of IS maturity than with a high level.

  • The release of relational data containing personal sensitive information poses a significant risk of privacy breaches. To preserve privacy while publishing such data, it is important to implement techniques that ensure protection of sensitive information. One popular technique used for this purpose is data perturbation, which is popularly used for privacy-preserving data release due to its simplicity and efficiency. However, the data perturbation has some limitations that prevent its practical application. As such, it is necessary to propose alternative solutions to overcome these limitations. In this study, we propose a novel approach to preserve privacy in the release of relational data containing personal sensitive information. This approach addresses an intuitive, syntactic privacy criterion for data perturbation and two perturbation methods for relational data release. Through experiments with synthetic and real data, we evaluate the performance of our methods.

  • As the interest in the business-to-business(B2B) electronic commerce is increasing, some companies are participating in the B2B eMarketplaces(electronic marketplaces). The eMarketplace has an effect on the method of B2B transactions or the purchasing performance. The academy and the industry are focused on the cause and the result of this effect. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effects of the relational exchange with eMarketplace on the purchasing performance, considering the supply externality and system integration as intervening variables. This study investigates the second-order effect of eMarketplace in which the degree of improvements in two aspects of purchasing activity(price reduction, purchasing efficiency) depends on the degree of the relational exchange with eMarketplace, namely, the governance of eMarketplace. Our hypotheses on this second order effect were supported. We found that the higher the relational governance, the lower in price reduction, and the better in purchasing efficiency. In more details, the high relational governance lowers the supply externality, and in turn deteriorates the improvement in price reduction. Meanwhile, the high relational governance accelerates the information system integration, and brings the better purchasing efficiency. Our findings suggest that organizations can improve their purchasing activities better if they choose the appropriate eMarketplace governance.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the factors CRM at department store and customer's perceived relational benefits and to analyze the effects of CRM on relational benefits and satisfaction. The data were collected from 760 people aged from 20 to 69 who were shopping in department stores. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, factorial analysis, multiple regression analysis, and Cronbach' ${\alpha}$, using the SPSS 12.0. The results were as follows. 1) CRM activities were classified into 5 factors: 'discount-related information', 'communication', 'management after purchase', 'service', and 'differentiate management'. 2) Perceived relational benefits were classified into 4 factors: 'informational benefit', 'psychological benefit', 'convenience benefit', and 'economic benefit'. 3) Perceived relational benefits were affected by 'communication', 'management after purchase', 'service', and 'discount-related information'. And 4) customer satisfaction was affected directly by 'psychological benefit', 'convenience benefit', 'service', and 'discount-related information'.
