  • Purpose: Rehabilitation nursing requires an interdisciplinary comprehensive team approach that allows for enough time to promote patients' functional recovery. We identified the effects of a nurse-led rehabilitation intervention program on subacute stroke patients' activities of daily living, anger, and muscle strength, as well as their chief caregivers' satisfaction. Methods: Intervention group participants (n = 20) completed a rehabilitation intervention program, which integrated physical activities with psychological and social approaches. Results: The program did not significantly improve patients' activities of daily living or anger management; however, it significantly affected both anger-in (t = 3.384, p = .002) and anger-out (t = 2.167, p = .037) attitudes. Caregivers' satisfaction among the intervention group (t = 6.935, p < .001) decreased more significantly than that of the comparison group (t = 0.224, p = .825). Conclusion: Rehabilitation intervention program should enlist nurses' participation and promote a team-based approach during the rehabilitation program. Further, patients and their caregivers should be encouraged to express their emotions during counseling.

  • Magnetic sensors and actuators have been widely used in industry and medical fields. Integrated systems based on sensors and actuators are defined as mechatronics that is the general combination of mechanics and electronics. Recently, magnetic wireless sensors and actuators have been developed and used at a systematic level. In particular, their mechanisms depend on magnetic, such as magnetic material and physical phenomena. However, their research boundary has not been clear. Researchers talk of magnetic micro-robots, magnetic actuators and sensors. Therefore, a new and correct definition is required. In this study, we introduce the advanced and extended concept of mechatronics, which is a magneto-mechantronics for biomedical and rehabilitation. Among various applications, we focused on wireless pump and sensing system for blood vessel rehabilitation and local motion capture, respectively.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to know the degree of the perceptions and the needs regarding the driving rehabilitation of students of occupational therapy. Method : Subjects are 317 students, department of occupational therapy of 4 colleges in Gyeongnam and Busan. Questionnaire consist of 15 questions of perceptions of the driving rehabilitation, 9 questions of needs of the driving rehabilitation, and 4 questions of subjects. The period of surveys was from 12, May to 12, Jun, 2013. Result : 73(23.1%) students answered that they knew about the driving rehabilitation and 47(14.8%) students answered that they experienced the driving rehabilitation. The answers about the channels of knowing and experience regarding driving rehabilitation had 'through the college'. The perceptions regarding the specialist and programs of driving rehabilitation was low compared with the knowing of the driving rehabilitation. The perception of needs regarding the driving rehabilitation for people with disabilities was high and they answered that they need the educations regarding driving rehabilitation. The 3rd grade students had high degree of perceptions and needs compared with 1st and 2ed grade students. And A college students had high degree of perceptions and needs compared with C and D college students. Conclusion : It is important that subject regarding of the driving rehabilitation include in curriculum of occupational therapy for strengthen the role of the occupational therapist in the driving rehabilitation.

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate correlation between patient satisfaction and rehabilitation motivation in a physical therapy environment. Methods : This study conducted a survey on musculoskeletal and neurological patients receiving rehabilitation treatment at a hospital. The subjects of the study were patients who were currently receiving rehabilitation treatment, either hospitalized or outpatient. 234 people were collected. A questionnaire was consisted of a total of 55 questions, including 27 questions about motivation for rehabilitation, 14 questions about physical therapy service environment, and 14 questions about patient satisfaction and intention to revisit. The detailed items in rehabilitation motivation consisted of 8 questions about task-oriented motivation, 7 questions about change-oriented motivation, 4 questions about obligatory motivation, 4 questions about external motivation, and 4 questions about intrinsic motivation, and in the physical therapy service environment, 4 questions about facility service and therapist service. , 6 questions, 4 questions about services used, 3 questions about friendliness, 4 questions about professionalism, 3 questions about treatment satisfaction, and 2 questions each about repeat visit and recommendation. Results : Facility service (r=.21) was highly correlated for task-oriented motivation, therapist service (r=.22) for change-oriented motivation, therapist service (r=.31) for mandatory motivation, therapist service (r=.19) for external motivation, and facility service (r=.56) for internal motivation. Revisit for task-oriented motivation (r=.47) is kind to change-oriented motives (r=-.13) was highly correlated with kindness (r=.19) for mandatory motives, recommendation (r=.14) for external motives, and expertise (r=.52) for internal motives. There was a high correlation between professionalism (r=.61) for facility services and kindness (r=.53) for therapist services, and revisit (r=.40) for service use. Conclusion : According to the results of this study, it was found that there was a correlation between patient satisfaction and rehabilitation motivation in a physical therapy environment.

  • One of the important issues for structural and electrical specifications in developing a robot is to determine lengths of links and motor specifications, which need to be appropriate to the purpose of robot. These issues become more critical for a gait rehabilitation robot, since a patient wears the robot. Prior to developing an entire gait rehabilitation robot, designing of a 1DOF assistive knee joint of the robot is considered in this paper. Human gait motions were used to determine an allowable range of knee joint that was rotated with a linear type actuator (ball-screw type) and links. The lengths of each link were determined by using an optimization process, minimizing the stroke of actuator and the total energy (kinetic and potential energy). Kinetic analysis was performed in order to determine maximum rotational speed and maximum torque of the motor for tracking gait trajectory properly. The prototype of 1 DOF assistive knee joint was built and examined with a impedance controller.
