  • The objective of this study is to suggest measures to support the community-based rehabilitation sports service for health of people with disabilities, which can be applicable to South Korea, by analyzing the rehabilitation sports service support system of Germany and Japan. Through literature review and direct visiting to Japan, the researcher explored such factors as, background of initiating the rehabilitation sports service, concept, range, and subject of theservice, service delivery procedure, and institutions, and finance of the service. The institutional implications are as follows: First, the concept and range of rehabilitation sports are gradually expanding. Initially, the rehabilitation sports started targeting for veterans with disabilities for the purpose of medical rehabilitation in Germany and Japan. As time passes, however, the importance of rehabilitation sports has emphasized, and the subjects have gradually expanded for the purpose of preventing disability or secondary diseases caused by disability. Second, in order to perform rehabilitation sports service, it is essential to have manpower with expertise in medical treatment, welfare, disability, and exercise prescription, likewise Germany and Japan do. Third, Germany and Japan emphasize the assignment of rehabilitation sports instructors in institutions, rather designating specific institutions, which is moving toward the manpower-based rehabilitation sports service, rather place-based service. Fourth, rather having simple medical programs or sports-oriented programs, it would be necessary to have the systematized disease-oriented programs for each type of disability. Lastly, the clients-oriented service delivery process should be established.

  • Objectives The purpose of this review is to investigate studies of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture and the evidence of it's effects in order to suggest a better research method in the future. Methods We retrieved numbers of clinical studies about Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture from 7 Korean web databases, using key words such as 'Scolopendrid', 'Scolopendrid AND Pharmacopuncture'. This study had been conducted from 1st May 2013 to 31th July 2013. Controlled studies and case studies were only used for this study. Clinical studies that we picked from the databases were classified according to the diseases that those studies are about, and from these clinical studies, we are to research what has to be improved generally in clinical researches. Results 18 case studies, 4 controlled studies had been under research. Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has a therapeutic effect mainly in musculoskeletal and neurological diseases such as herniated intervertebral disc, carpal tunnel syndrome, swollen leg, feeling of cold on legs, wrist ganglion, lateral epicondylitis, radial nerve palsy, cervical myelopathy, cauda equina syndrome, postauricular pain; as an early symptom of Bell's palsy, pain of popliteal part, gout, plantar fasciitis, cellulitis, frozen shoulder, pain of hip adductors. However objectivity and reliability of the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture studies still remains controversial. Conclusions It has been suggested that there are positive effects of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy in treating specific diseases (especially neuromusculoskeletal diseases). However, this narrative review can't conclude and prove that the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has positive effectiveness on these diseases unlike systematic review. So, in order to put Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy to use for many kinds of diseases in more reasonable ways, it is essential to build well-designed clinical research tools. In the future, abundant case studies, more follow-up trials and randomized controlled trials based on the korean medicine should be done to use Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture for a clinical purpose.

  • Recently, the demand on the practical application of life-cycle cost effective design and rehabilitation of bridges is rapidly growing in civil engineering practice. However, in spite of impressive progress in the researches on the Life-Cycle Cost (LCC), the most researches have only focused on the theoretical point but did not fully incorporate the critical issues for the practical implementation. Thus, this paper is intended to suggest a systemic integrated approach to the practical application of various LCC methodologies for the design and rehabilitation of bridges, For that purpose, hierarchical definitions of LCC models are presented to categorize the approach of LCC assessment applicable for the practical implementation. And then, an integrated LCC system model is introduced with an emphasis on data uncertainty assessment and user-friendly knowledge-based database for its successful implementation. Finally, in order to demonstrate the LCC effectiveness for design and rehabilitation of real bridge structures, illustrative examples are discussed.

  • Stroke patients should exercise for the rehabilitation of their fingers, because they can't use their hand and fingers. Their hand and fingers are fixed on the hand fixing system for rehabilitation exercise of them. But the hands clenched the fist of stroke patients are difficult to fix on it. In order to fix the hands and fingers, their palms are pressed with pressing bars and are controlled by reference force. The fixing system must have a five-axis force/moment sensor to force control. In this paper, the five-axis force/moment sensor was developed for the hand fixing system of finger-rehabilitation exercising system. The structure of the five-axis force/moment sensor was modeled, and designed using finite element method(FEM). And it was fabricated with strain-gages, then, its characteristic test was carried out. As a result, the maximum interference error is less than 2.43 %.

  • The recent power add-on drive wheelchairs (PADWs) provide greater physical activity and easier transportability and may be an excellent alternative for the typical manual and powered wheelchairs. The driving system consists of a motor and a motor driver is the most important component of the PADW In this paper, design, implementation, and testing of a driving system for a PADW are presented. To design the output power and torque for the driving system, the equation of motion has been investigated. The motor and driver were fabricated with precise machining and assembled to implement our prototype driving system. The dynamometer test has been carried out using the prototype in order to examine the torque of the system. The experimental results demonstrates that the designed driving system can provide enough output power and efficiency for utilization in a PADW.

  • In daily life, another major role of human hand is a communicative function using hand gestures besides grasp function. Therefore, if amputees can express their intention by the prosthetic hand, they can much actively participate in social activities. Thus, this paper propose myoelectric multi-function prosthetic hand which can express 6 useful hand gestures such as Rock, Scissors, Paper, Indexing, Ok and Thumb-up. It was designed as under-actuated structure to minimize volume and weight of the prosthetic hand. Moreover, in order to effectively control various hand gestures by only two EMG sensors, we propose a control strategy that the signal type are expanded as "Strong" and "Light", and hand gestures are hierarchically classified for the intuitive control. Finally, we prove the validity of the developed prosthetic hand with the experiment.
