Proprioception, the regulator of motor function

  • In animals, proper locomotion is crucial to find mates and foods and avoid predators or dangers. Multiple sensory systems detect external and internal cues and integrate them to modulate motor outputs. Proprioception is the internal sense of body position, and proprioceptive control of locomotion is essential to generate and maintain precise patterns of movement or gaits. This proprioceptive feedback system is conserved in many animal species and is mediated by stretch-sensitive receptors called proprioceptors. Recent studies have identified multiple proprioceptive neurons and proprioceptors and their roles in the locomotion of various model organisms. In this review we describe molecular and neuronal mechanisms underlying proprioceptive feedback systems in C. elegans, Drosophila, and mice.

H-브릿지 멀티레벨 인버터의 전압 지연 해석 및 전류 제어 보상 (Analysis of Voltage Delay and Compensation for Current Control in H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter)

  • 본 논문에서는 고전압 전동기 가변속 장치인 H-브릿지 멀티레벨(H-Bridge Multi-Level; HBML) 인버터를 이용한 유도 전동기 벡터 제어시 인버터의 출력 전압 위상 지연 현상을 해석하고 전류 제어기의 보상 기법을 제시하였다. Phase-Shifted Pulse Width Modulation (PSPWM) 기법을 적용한 HBML 인버터는 개별 인버터 모듈이 독립적으로 동작할 수 있어서 확장성과 모듈화 능력이 향상되는 장점이 있다. 그러나 이러한 PSPWM을 적용한 HBML 인버터는 기준 전압과 실제 전압 사이에 위상 차이가 있기 때문에 출력 주파수에 대한 샘플링 주파수의 비율이 충분하지 않은 고속 영역에서 전류 제어기를 불안정하게 하는 원인이 된다. 전류 제어기의 불안정성은 기준 전압과 출력 전압의 위상 차이를 보상하는 제안된 방법을 추가함으로써 제거하였다. 본 방법은 인버터의 스위칭 주파수가 낮고, 전동기 속도가 높은 조건에서 PSPWM을 이용한 HBML 인버터 시스템에 효과적이며, 13레벨로 구성된 HBML 인버터로 구동되는 6,600[V] 1,400[kW] 유도전동기 실험을 통해 제안된 방법의 타당성을 입증하였다.

Application to Speed Control of Brushless DC Motor Using Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID Controller with Genetic Algorithm

  • This paper proposes a mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ optimal PID controller with a genetic algorithm based on the dynamic model of a brushless direct current (BLDC) motor and applies it to speed control. In the dynamic model of the BLDC motor with perturbation, the proposed controller guarantees arobust and optimal tracking performance to the desired speed of the BLDC motor. A genetic algorithm was used to obtain parameters for the PID controller that satisfy the mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ constraint. To implement the proposed controller, a control system based on PIC18F4431 was developed. Numerical and experimental results are shown to prove that the performance of the proposed controller was better than that of the optimal PID controller.

Comparative Analysis of Integer-order and Fractional-order Proportional Integral Speed Controllers for Induction Motor Drive Systems

  • Linear proportional-integral (PI) controllers are an attractive choice for controlling the speed of induction machines because of their simplicity and ease of implementation. Fractional-order PI (FO-PI) controllers, however, perform better than PI controllers because of their nonlinear nature and the underlying iso-damping property of fractional-order operators. In this work, an FO-PI controller based on the proposed first-order plus dead-time induction motor model and integer-order (IO) controllers, such as Ziegler-Nichols PI, Cohen-Coon PI, and a PI controller tuned via trial-and-error method, is designed. Simulation and experimental investigation on an indirect field-oriented induction motor drive system proves that the proposed FO-PI controller has better speed tracking, lesser settling time, better disturbance rejection, and lower speed tracking error compared with linear IO-PI controllers. Our experimental study also validates that the FO-PI controller maximizes the torque per ampere output of the induction machine and can effectively control the motor at low speed, in field-weakening regions, and under detuned conditions.

바이오에탄올 연료에 대한 FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle)용 연료펌프모터의 내구성에 관한 연구 (A Study of Fuel Pump Durability on the Bio-ethanol for FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) System)

  • FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) is the vehicle that can be used liberally from gasoline to E100(Ethanol 100%) for fuel. Recently, interest in the bio-fuel is increased by the environmental factors like exhaustion of the fossil fuel and ruduction of greenhouse gases. For the reason, adopting of FFV is activated in the world including North and South America. In general, bio-ethanol has highly corrosive substance in compare with gasoline. In the part of fuel system, corrosion can make a safety problem in case of fuel leakage and engine starting problem. So the fuel system of FFV have to be made of high corrosion-resistant materials. This study examined the effect of bio-ethanol on the durability properties according to component materials in FFV fuel pump motor and regulator using the High Temperature Fuel Circulation Test.

  • This paper presents a speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) using an adaptive integral binary observer without speed and position sensors. In view of composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the proposed adaptive integral binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the switching hyperplane equation. The effectiveness of the proposed system is conformed by the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system which has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure. The PI tuning formulas are derived by analyzing this control system using the frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.

  • Direct torque control (DTC) scheme provides a very quick torque response without the complex field-orientation block and inner current regulation loop. DTC is known as an appropriate scheme for high power induction motet drives because it can be used at lower switching frequency. There are two major drawbacks with the application of DTC schemes : one is large current harmonics due to flux drooping in a low speed range, the other is that the inverter switching frequency is varying according to motor parameters and operating speed. Switching devices in the power electronics drives should be supported for relatively high switching frequency. In this paper, a P-type fuzzy controller to realize the variable switching sector scheme and a PID-type fuzzy switching frequency regulator are adopted. A meaningful contribution of this paper is to propose a simple realization scheme of the fuzzy switching frequency regulator. Simulation results show the effectiveness of those propositions.

  • The closed circuit pump is applied to control rotating speed and direction of hydraulic motor in hydrostatic transmission. To development of this pump, first of all the servo control regulator has to be designed. Mechanical-hydraulic type servo control mechanism is excellent to be compared with electronic-hydraulic type servo control valve to reliability and economy. In this paper to development positive and negative variable displacement type servo regulator, the hydro-mechanical servo control mechanism is calculated and designed with force balance of pilot piston and position feedback of servo piston.

  • A new implementation strategy for the flux weakening control of a Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM) is proposed. It is implemented based on the output of the synchronous PI current regulator-reference voltage to PWM inverter. The onset of flux weakening and the level of the d-axis current are adjusted by the outer voltage regulation loop to prevent the saturation of the current regulator. The characteristics of this flux weakening scheme include no dependency on the machine parameters, the guarantee of current regulation on any operating condition, and fast transition into and out of the flux weakening mode. Experimental results at various operating conditions including 4-quadrant operation are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.
