Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify how regular stimulation affects apnea of a premature infant. Method: This study was used a within-subjects design with repeated measure using GEE (General Estimating Equation) and had been conducted from July 1, 2003 to March 12, 2004. The subjects consisted of 11 apneic premature infants who had showed apnea more than twice for 12 hours. A regularly vibrating test lung was provided to the subjects to find how regular stimulation affects apnea. Result: From the result of regular stimulation for apneic premature infants, both the lowest SaO2 and the lowest heart rate at experimental period were found to be increased significantly. However, the decreased frequency of the apnea cases was not statistically effective. Conclusion: These findings indicate that regular stimulation for apneic premature infants could be effective on increasing both SaO2 and heart rate. Therefore, we suggest regular stimulation to be used clinically to heal apnea of premature infants.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of regular maternal exercise on maternal nutrients intake and pregnancy outcome. The number of subjects were 567 pregnant women at local general hospital in Daegu. General characteristics data and 24- hour food recalls were collected by trained interviewer. Structured interview and medical record review were carried out at first prenatal and delivery visit(included age, delivery history, height, pre-pregnancy weight, and pregnancy outcome etc). Regular exercise performance was surveyed at third trimester and 31.4% of subjects exercised regularly Overall weight gains during pregnancy were 13.9 $\pm$ 3.8kg and 14.7 $\pm$ 4.7kg in the exercise and sedentary group, respectively. The type of exercise was mainly strolling and light aerobic exercise. Usually firstpara subjects exercised more regularly than multipara subjects. There is no significant difference between regular exercise and severity of morning sickness. Weight gain during pregnancy was not relate to regular exercise. Though there is not statistically significant, the nutrients intakes were higher in regular exercise group than in sedentary group. We concluded regular exercise during pregnancy neither influenced pregnancy weight gain, severity of morning sickness nor baby birth weight but it could affect the nutritional and health statues of mother.
This study investigated the effect of regular exercise on serum lipid profiles and carnitine levels in college students. Daily nutrient intake, anthropometry , serum lipid, and carnitine profiles in serum and urine were evaluated prior to beginning the study and after 35 days of treadmill running for 30 minutes per day. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1) Concentrations of total lipid and Triglyceride in serum were decreased by regular exercise in female subjects but unaffected in males. 2) Serum LDL-cholesterol was significantly decreased, but total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol in serum were not affected in both male and female subjects. 3) nonesterified carnitinem, acid-insoluble acylcarnitine, and total carnitine levels in serum were not affected, but acid-soluble acylcarnitine level was increased by regular exercise in both subjects. 4) Urinary excretionof the acid-soluble acylcarnitine level was increased by regular exercise -training. These results suggest that regular exercise -training has different effects on serum lipid oxidation via carnitine metabolism in this condition.
Background: This study analyzed predictors of regular mammography performance in Korea. In addition, we determined factors affecting regular mammography performance in life-transition aged women by applying an attitude, social influence, and self-efficacy (ASE) model. Materials and Methods: Data were collected from women aged over 40 years residing in province J in Korea. The 178 enrolled subjects provided informed voluntary consent prior to completing a structural questionnaire. Results: The overall regular mammography performance rate of the subjects was 41.6%. Older age, city residency, high income and part-time job were associated with a high regular mammography performance. Among women who had undergone more breast self-examinations (BSE) or more doctors' physical examinations (PE), there were higher regular mammography performance rates. All three ASE model factors were significantly associated with regular mammography performance. Women with a high level of positive ASE values had a significantly high regular mammography performance rate. Within the ASE model, self-efficacy and social influence were particularly important. Logistic regression analysis explained 34.7% of regular mammography performance and PE experience (${\beta}=4.645$, p=.003), part-time job (${\beta}=4.010$, p=.050), self-efficacy (${\beta}=1.820$, p=.026) and social influence (${\beta}=1.509$, p=.038) were significant factors. Conclusions: Promotional strategies that could improve self-efficacy, reinforce social influence and reduce geographical, time and financial barriers are needed to increase the regular mammography performance rate in life-transition aged.
The purpose of this study was to confirm that regular physical exercise habit and calcium intake play a role reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseae, particularly to confrim that regular exercise is important in reducing serum lipid levels. Subjects were classified into regular exercise group(more than 3 times/wk, more than 30 min per exercise) and non-regular exercise group. A convenient frequency method was used to assess the nutritional intake of subjects. Anthropometric measurement such as bodyweight and hight, and blood pressure were measured. There was no significant difference between nonexercisers and exerciser in energy intake, calcium intake and blood lipid levels. The strength of frequency of exercise may not by adequate to modify lipid profiles in premenopausal woman with normal lipid level, Although we found no significant difference in blood lipid levels, this result does not imply there are no benefits of exercise subjects. There were no signigicant correlations between age or weight with blood lipids in regular exercise group, while there were significant positive correlations between age of weight with blood lipids in non-regular exercise group. The levels of serum cholesterol, and triglyceride, blood pressure and atherogenic index increased with age in nonexercise women, Especially, atherogenic index was lower in regular exercise group. The blood pressure in nonexercise group was significantly higher than that in regular exercise group There was a highly significant negative correlation between calcium intake and blood pressure in nonexercise women, There was a highly significant negative correlation between calcium intake and blood pressure in nonexercise women. The results suggest that increased habitual physical activity and calcium intake may have desirable effects on serum lipid levels and blood pressure in premenopausal women.(Korean J Nutrition 34(1):62-68, 2001)
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify exercise environments and social support associated with exercise behaviors in middle-aged women. Method: Subjects were 207 women aged between 41 and 59 yr in an urban community. The research instruments utilized in this study were exercise stages, exercise environments, exercise partners and social support scale. Subjects were given a self-report questionnaire. Data was analyzed using the SPSS Win program. Result: The subjects were in the stages of precontemplation (3.4%), contemplation (25.1%), preparation (40.6%), action (5.8%), and maintenance (25.1%). Subjects who engaged in regular exercise were 30.9%. The mean score of the exercise environment was 6.34. The mean score of social support was 21.28, and 65.7% of subjects had exercise partners. The score of the exercise environment was significantly associated with the exercise stage (p=.01). The number of exercise partners of regular exercise groups was significantly greater than that of non-regular exercise groups (p=.00). The score of social support of regular exercise groups was significantly greater than that of non-regular exercise groups (p=.00). The score of social support was significantly associated with the exercise stage (p=.00). Conclusion: Exercise environments and social support need to be considered in planning exercise programs to improve exercise behavior among middle-aged women.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the affecting factors on self-efficacy of walking exercise. The subjects were 413 working men. Whose data and material were collected through an organized questionnaire from October, 1999 to May 2000. The major results of this were as follows; 1. 61.1% of the subjects' major affecting factor was deep sleep, 65.0% of the subjects' majo affecting facto was regular physical screening, 51.1% of the subjects' regular exercise, 18.7% of the subjects' walking exercise. 2. stages of change related to walking exercise of the subjects were as follows, 15.8% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage, 51.1% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage. 3. The average self-efficacy concerning walking exercise was 3.16 points. 4. With stepwise multiple regression, the most significant factor on self-efficacy related to walking exercise in stages of change was the preparation stage. According to the results of this study, a concrete practice program is needed to promote self-efficacy related walking exercise.
The purpose of this study was to confirm that regular physical exercise habit and calcium intake play a role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, particularly to confirm that regular exercise is important in reducing serum lipid levels in postmenopausal women. Subjects were classified into regular exercise group(more than 3 times/wk, more than 30 min per exercise) and non-regular exercise group. A convenient frequency method was used to assess the nutritional intake of subjects. Anthropometric measurement such as body weight and height, and blood pressure were measured. There was no significant difference between non-regular exercise group and regular exercise group in energy intake and calcium intake. The total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations in non-regular exercise group were significantly higher than those in regular exercise group. There were no significant correlations between age or weight with blood lipids and blood pressure in regular exercise group, while there were significant positive correlations between age or weight with blood lipids and blood pressure in non-regular exercise group. The levels of serum cholesterol, triglyceride, blood pressure and atherogenic index increased with age in non-regular exercise women. The blood pressure in low total Ca intake/plant Ca intake ratio group was significantly higher than that in high total Ca intake/plant Ca intake ratio group. There was a highly significant positive correlation between Ca intake and HDL-cholesterol in non-regular exercise women. And, there was a highly significant negative correlation between Ca intake and blood pressure in regular exercise women. The results suggest that increased habitual physical activity and calcium intake should be recommended by way of decreasing blood lipids and blood pressure in postmenopausal women. The dietary habits and eating behaviors of nonagenarian subjects over 90 years old in Korean representative longevity belts of Damyang, Gokseong, Kurye, Sunchang were evaluated. The subjects of the study were 91 elderly people (26 males and 65 females) over 90 years old and their dietary habits, food preferences and meal patterns were collected by individual interview. The percentage of subjects, who answered 'very good' or 'good' for their health status, was $65.9\%$. In this study, $55\%$ of subjects were without chronic diseases, and there was no significance difference in gender. Many subjects had performed regular exercise and outdoor activity. The rate of eating together with their family was $79.1\%$. Most of subjects ($91.2\%$) had a regular mealtime consuming three meals a day, and they had good appetite and pleasure of eating. The higher preference of food group was fruits ($95.6\%$), legumes ($94.5\%$), mushrooms ($93.4\%$) and vegetables ($92.3\%$), but the amount of intakes is higher in vegetables than the others. Eating with family, regular exercise and self-rated good health are improved their nutrient intakes. Most frequently consumed meal pattern was rice plus soup and side dishes. The side dish consumed frequently was Namul (blanch and seasoned vegetables). From this study, the nonagenarian populations in longevity belt in Korea have good dietary habits such as regular mealtime, constant amount of meal and eat with pleasure. They are taking Korean traditional meal pattern, providing enriched antioxidant vegetable foods. Also, it can be concluded that the amount and quality of diet in the long-lived elderly are responsible for the Korean traditional family system.
Objectives: This study compared the dietary behaviors of single-person households when eating alone according to the employment pattern and age. Methods: A total of 566 people aged 20~59 years old were collected from the status of workers and classified into three groups according to their employment pattern (regular, non-regular workers and business owner). The subjects were collected by purposive quota sampling on a Gallup panel from June to November in 2017. The dietary behavior and perception of eating alone of the subjects were surveyed via online and self-reported questionnaires. Results: The frequency of eating alone was significantly higher in the regular group than the non-regular group and business group (p<0.01). The place of eating alone was significantly higher in the regular and non-regular group in the convenience store, and business group in the office (p<0.001). Ramen, the menu when eating alone, was significantly higher in the non-regular group than the other groups (p<0.01). The preference for eating alone was lower in the older age group (p<0.05). The young aged group (aged 20~30) ate more fast food and felt more convenience than the older aged group aged 40~50 years (p<0.05). Conclusions: Single-person households with a non-regular job have poorer dietary behavior in eating alone than those who had regular employment. In a situation of an increasing number of non-regular workers aged in their 20s and 30s, there is a high likelihood of social problems, such as health and poverty. This study highlights the need for a healthy food selection environment to improve the dietary life of single-person households with non-regular jobs for the diverse types of single-person households.
