  • The behavior of a non-buoyant turbulent round jet discharging horizontally was investigated experimentally. The instantaneous velocity field of the jet was obtained using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) method and used to calculate the mean velocity field by phase-averaging. This study tested regular waves with a relatively small wave height for a wavy environmental flow. The centerline and cross-sectional velocity profiles were reported to demonstrate the effect of the waves on the jet diffusion in respect of wave height and wave phase. The wave phase effect was studied for three phases: zero-upcrossing point, zero-downcrossing point, trough. From the results, it is found that the centerline velocity decreases and width of the cross-sectional profile increases as the wave height increases. In addition, the self-similarity of the cross-sectional profile appears to break down although the width of each case along the axial distance does not vary significantly. The phase effect is found to be relatively small compared to the wave height effect.

  • In this study, a nonlinear wave simulation code is developed using a higher-order spectral (HOS) method. The HOS method is very efficient because it can determine the solution of the boundary value problem using fast Fourier transform (FFT) without matrix operation. Based on the HOS order, the vertical velocity of the free surface boundary was estimated and applied to the nonlinear free surface boundary condition. Time integration was carried out using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method, which is known to be stable for nonlinear free-surface problems. Numerical stability against the aliasing effect was guaranteed by using the zero-padding method. In addition to simulating the initial wave field distribution, a nonlinear adjusted region for wave generation and a damping region for wave absorption were introduced for wave generation simulation. To validate the developed simulation code, the adjusted simulation was carried out and its results were compared to the eighth order Stokes theory. Long-time simulations were carried out on the irregular wave field distribution, and nonlinear wave propagation characteristics were observed from the results of the simulations. Nonlinear adjusted and damping regions were introduced to implement a numerical wave tank that successfully generated nonlinear regular waves. According to the variation in the mean wave steepness, irregular wave simulations were carried out in the numerical wave tank. The simulation results indicated an increase in the nonlinear interaction between the wave components, which was numerically verified as the mean wave steepness. The results of this study demonstrate that the HOS method is an accurate and efficient method for predicting the nonlinear interaction between waves, which increases with wave steepness.

  • There is a need to develop an app for a caregiver health management that can provide continuous management in response to changes over time, because elderly people have low digital utilization capabilities, difficulty maintaining regular and continuous self-management. Based on this need, this study designed an app with a user-friendly UI and simple structure for the elderly. The app developed in this study supports regular management of health data such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and heart rate, as well as specific information on physical, disease, cognitive, communication, and environment in the care field. The app developed in this study supports care services by automatically entering data through integration with health management devices, automatically analyzing and visually representing recorded data to understand trends and volatility, and adding scalability to connect with various health management and medical support platforms. The effectiveness and satisfaction of the developed app were confirmed to be significant in the field verification results.

  • The pattern of economic integration in the broiler industry can be grouped into three categories; 1) non-integration, 2) quasi-integration and 3) complete-integration. It is general to see that the non-integration is quite common under the market conditions of perfect competition, whereas the complete integration is more preferable in the imperfect competition. The quasi-integration, however, exists at all phases where the complete integration is not fully formed and implemented, but the non-integration has begun to alter its nature into integrated structure. The broiler industry in Korea has been characterized with the typically non-integrated independent operation, resulting in considerable price fluctuation and unstable industry as a whole. As a means of solving out the problem stemed from the non-integrated, growers and agribusinessmen involved in broiler industry have tended to develope the regular customer relationship prevailed between two parties. In fact, it has been practiced for years that most growers have been dealt with factor suppliers or processors on a regular basis for advantages of better price and quality, useful information, management help and so forth. Under the customary transaction, no formal contract has been made due to simple buyers and sellers relations, not like the one used to be performed in the form of contractual agreement. The broiler industry realizes the direction to go ahead toward the formal arrangement of integrated system from current regular transactions. As more Vowers, suppliers and processors recognize the necessity of it, the non-integrated industry appears to become the partially integrated by developing the existing customer relationship in such a way that functions of integrators are. further expanded and better organized. As a result, a type of quasi-integration started to show up by an integrator dominated in the field of hatching, feedmilling, dressing and by a grower's coop, It is concluded, therefore, that the evolution of quasi-integration in Korea's broiler industry is continuously taking place, implying the close approach to the completely integrated broiler production and marketing system.

  • The present paper provides a CFD analysis of diffraction problem for a ship with forward speed using an unsteady RANS simulation method, a WAVIS code. The WAVIS viscous solver adopting a finite volume method has second order accuracy in time and field discretizaions for the RANS equations. A two phase level-set method and a realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are adopted to compute the free surface and to meet the turbulence closure, respectively. To validate the capability of the present numerical methods for the simulation of an unsteady progressive regular wave, computations are performed for three grid sets with refinement ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$. The main simulation is performed for a DTMB5512 model with a forward speed in a regular head sea condition. Validation of the present numerical method is carried out by comparing the present CFD results with available unsteady experimental data published in the 2005 Tokyo CFD Workshop: resistance, heave force, pitch moment, unsteady free surface elevations and velocity fields.

  • The purpose of the study lied on supporting the reeducation program which was focused on the demand with the clients by analyzing the recognition on the real situations of the reeducation on the hair designers in the nation. As a result on the subject, the responders said they could usually learn new information through the various seminars that were held by beauty product suppliers and companies, and most of the high school or under high school level designers have participated in various seminars while the designers who graduated from a junior college or universities had experienced new trends at life time education establishments(p<0.01). A hair designer who was single and paid low salary usually depended on the course inside the shop(p<0.01), and most of the information they got was through the suppliers of the beauty products. In that case, regular sources of information, such as educational establishments, informative magazines, Internet were highly recommended. A reason for unsatisfactory reeducation was due to lack of time and a reason for not participating the seminar was also due to time shortage caused by regular working hours, which was reflecting the real situation of the hair designers. As a suggestion for the reeducation establishment, most of the responders wanted vocational schools or life-time educational center. They wanted a fixed regular period for reeducation, especially over the weekend for after working hours. It means they want long-time systematic education. Considering the results, a course which is organized for a long-time systematic purpose is suggested for the hair dressers who want to be professionals in the field with the class equipped with contents of the classes, period, and place. For the purpose to be realized, improvement of the working hours in needed and it will be an incentive to make the hair designers satisfied with their work.

  • This paper reports the results of an experimental program involving several small-scale columns which were constructed to simulate corrosion damage in the field using two accelerated corrosion techniques namely, constant voltage and constant current. A total of six columns were cast for this experiment. For one pair of regular RC columns, corrosion was accelerated using constant voltage and for another pair, corrosion was accelerated using constant current. The remaining pair of regular RC columns was used as control. In the experiment, all the columns were subjected to cyclic wetting and drying using sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The currents were monitored on an hourly interval and cracks were visually checked throughout the test program. After the specimens had suffered sufficient percentage steel loss, all the columns including the control were tested to failure in compression. The test results generated show that accelerated corrosion using impressed constant current produces more corrosion damage than that using constant voltage. The results suggest that the constant current approach can be better used to simulate corrosion damage of reinforced concrete structures and to assess the effectiveness of various materials, repair strategies and admixtures to resist corrosion damage.

  • The present study numerically investigates the effect of the shape of absorbing revetment on wave overtopping rate under regular and irregular incident waves. At first, the numerical model developed by Hur and Choi(2008), which considers the flow through a porous medium with inertial, laminar and turbulent resistance terms, directly simulates Wave-Structure-Sandy seabed interaction and can determine the eddy viscosity with LES turbulent model in 2-Dimensional wave field (LES-WASS-2D), is validated when compared to experimental data. Numerical simulations are then performed to examine the effect of the shape of absorbing revetment and incident wave conditions on wave overtopping rate. The numerical result shows that the wave overtopping rate decreases with the slope gradient of absorbing revetment under both regular and irregular waves. In addition, the effects of mean grain size and porosity of absorbing revetment, incident wave period and crest height on wave overtopping rate are discussed.

  • Motivated by recent attempts to derive geomagnetic activity from hourly mean data in long term studies, we test the recursive Kalman filter method to obtain the regular solar variation curve of the geomagnetic field. Using a simple algorithm, we are able to assign a quiet day curve to every day separately, without the need for additional input parameter(s) to define the geomagnetically quiet days. We derive a digital counterpart AhK of the analog range index Ak at the subauroral Sodankyl$\ddot{a}$ station and compare it to the earlier digital estimate Ah and the local Ak index. We find that the new method outperforms the former estimate in every aspect studied and provides a robust, straightforward manner of estimating and verifying the manually scaled Ak index, based on readily available hourly values. The model is independent of sampling; thus, for shorter term studies where high-sampling data are available, more accurate estimates can also be obtained when needed. Therefore, in contrast to other recent approaches, we do not provide a method to quantify irregular activity directly but derive the actual quiet day curves in the traditional manner. In future applications the same algorithm may be used to define a wide variety of geomagnetic indices (such as Ak, Dst, or AE).
