We consider penalized likelihood regression with data from the negative binomial distribution with unknown shape parameter. Smoothing parameter selection and asymptotically efficient low dimensional approximations are employed for negative binomial data along with shape parameter estimation through several different algorithms.
In active SONAR, several different methods are used to detect range-Doppler information of the target. Compressive sensing based method is more accurate than conventional methods and shows superior performance. There are several compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The ability of each algorithm depends on algorithm type, mutual coherence of sensing matrix, and signal to noise ratio. In this paper, we compared and analyzed computational performance and accuracy of various compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The performance of OMP (Orthogonal Matching Pursuit), CoSaMP (Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit), BPDN (CVX) (Basis Pursuit Denoising), LARS (Least Angle Regression) algorithms is respectively estimated for varying SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and mutual coherence. The optimal compressive sensing algorithm is presented according to the situation.

In this paper, we compare the classification performances of both ensemble and clustering algorithms (Data Bagging, Variable Selection Bagging, Parameter Combining, Clustering) to logistic regression in consideration of various characteristics of input data. Four factors used to simulate the logistic model are (1) correlation among input variables (2) variance of observation (3) training data size and (4) input-output function. In view of the unknown relationship between input and output function, we use a Taguchi design to improve the practicality of our study results by letting it as a noise factor. Experimental study results indicate the following: When the level of the variance is medium, Bagging & Parameter Combining performs worse than Logistic Regression, Variable Selection Bagging and Clustering. However, classification performances of Logistic Regression, Variable Selection Bagging, Bagging and Clustering are not significantly different when the variance of input data is either small or large. When there is strong correlation in input variables, Variable Selection Bagging outperforms both Logistic Regression and Parameter combining. In general, Parameter Combining algorithm appears to be the worst at our disappointment.
In this paper, we developed a forest fire detection algorithm which uses a regression function between NDVI and land surface temperature. Previous detection algorithms use the land surface temperature as a main factor to discriminate fire pixels from non-fire pixels. These algorithms assume that the surface temperatures of non-fire pixels are intrinsically analogous and obey Gaussian normal distribution, regardless of land surface types and conditions. And the temperature thresholds for detecting fire pixels are derived from the statistical distribution of non-fire pixels’ temperature using heuristic methods. This assumption makes the temperature distribution of non-fire pixels very diverse and sometimes slightly overlapped with that of fire pixel. So, sometimes there occur omission errors in the cases of small fires. To ease such problem somewhat, we separated non-fire pixels into each land cover type by clustering algorithm and calculated the residuals between the temperature of a pixel under examination whether fire pixel or not and estimated temperature of the pixel using the linear regression between surface temperature and NDVI. As a result, this algorithm could modify the temperature threshold considering land types and conditions and showed improved detection accuracy.

In order to implement interactive and personalized Web services properly, it is necessary to understand the tangible and intangible responses of the users and to recognize their emotional states. Recently, some studies have attempted to build emotional state estimation models based on facial expressions. Most of these studies have applied multiple regression analysis (MRA), artificial neural network (ANN), and support vector regression (SVR) as the prediction algorithm, but the prediction accuracies have been relatively low. In order to improve the prediction performance of the emotion prediction model, we propose a novel SVR model that is optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA). Our proposed algorithm-GASVR-is designed to optimize the kernel parameters and the feature subsets of SVRs in order to predict the levels of two aspects-valence and arousal-of the emotions of the users. In order to validate the usefulness of GASVR, we collected a real-world data set of facial responses and emotional states via a survey. We applied GASVR and other algorithms including MRA, ANN, and conventional SVR to the data set. Finally, we found that GASVR outperformed all of the comparative algorithms in the prediction of the valence and arousal levels.

Recently, accumulation of data on pig farm is enabled through the wide spread of smart pig farm equipped with Internet-of-Things based sensors, and various machine learning algorithms are applied on the data in order to improve the productivity of pig farm. Herein, multiple machine learning schemes are used to predict the water usage in pig farm which is known to be one of the most important element in pig farm management. Especially, regression algorithms, which are linear regression, regression tree and AdaBoost regression, and classification algorithms which are logistic classification, decision tree and support vector machine, are applied to derive a prediction scheme which forecast the water usage based on the temperature and humidity of pig farm. Through performance evaluation, we find that the water usage can be predicted with high accuracy. The proposed scheme can be used to detect the malfunction of water system which prevents the death of pigs and reduces the loss of pig farm.
In this paper, we discuss optimal design of Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks by means of Genetic Algorithms(GAs) using symbolic coding for non-linear data. One of the major subject of genetic algorithms is representation of chromosomes. The proposed model optimized by the means genetic algorithms which used symbolic code to represent chromosomes. The proposed gFPNN used a triangle and a Gaussian-like membership function in premise part of rules and design the consequent structure by constant and regression polynomial (linear, quadratic and modified quadratic) function between input and output variables. The performance of the proposed model is quantified through experimentation that exploits standard data already used in fuzzy modeling. These results reveal superiority of the proposed networks over the existing fuzzy and neural models.
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) services have become one of the most essential parts to extend human capabilities in various fields such as face recognition for security, weather prediction, and so on. Various learning algorithms for existing AI services are utilized, such as classification, regression, and deep learning, to increase accuracy and efficiency for humans. Nonetheless, these services face many challenges such as fake news spread on social media, stock selection, and volatility delay in stock prediction systems and inaccurate movie-based recommendation systems. In this paper, various algorithms are presented to mitigate these issues in different systems and services. Convolutional neural network algorithms are used for detecting fake news in Korean language with a Word-Embedded model. It is based on k-clique and data mining and increased accuracy in personalized recommendation-based services stock selection and volatility delay in stock prediction. Other algorithms like multi-level fusion processing address problems of lack of real-time database.
Tree algorithms have been widely developed for regression problems. One of the good features of a regression tree is the flexibility of fitting because it can correctly capture the nonlinearity of data well. Especially, data with sudden structural breaks such as the price of oil and exchange rates could be fitted well with a simple mixture of a few piecewise linear regression models. Now that split points are determined by chi-squared statistics related with residuals from fitting piecewise linear models and the split variable is chosen by an objective criterion, we can get a quite reasonable fitting result which goes in line with the visual interpretation of data. The piecewise linear regression by a regression tree can be used as a good fitting method, and can be applied to a dataset with much fluctuation.

For industrial and medical lifetime data, the generalized log-gamma regression model is considered. Then the Bayesian analysis for the generalized log-gamma regression with censored data are explained and following the data augmentation (Tanner and Wang; 1987), the censored data is replaced by simulated data. To overcome the complicated Bayesian computation, Makov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is employed. Then some modified algorithms are proposed to implement MCMC. Finally, one example is presented.
