This study analyzed the relationship between environmental factors and the temporal changes of the bird populations during the every January from 1999 to 2016 (18 years) in Donglim reservoir. 'Winter Waterbird Census of Korea' data by National Institute of Biological Resources were used for the bird population data, and principal component analysis and cluster analysis were used to analyze the changes of annual population. The average temperature of January and the average storage rate of the reservoir were used as environmental factors. According to the results of the study, the population changes in the study area can be explained by the increase and decrease of two water bird groups and a mountain bird group. The average temperature of the years when the population of water bird groups increased was more than $1.4^{\circ}C$ in comparison with the year when mountain birds increased. On the other hand, the influence of the water content was not clear. The visiting of Baikal Teal affected by temperature was a factor affecting the other group of water bird and a mountain bird group. The results of this study suggest that the temperature change affects the global spatial distribution of birds and the migration of large population species such as Baikal Teal affects species composition and populations of birds at local scale. Therefore, understanding of environmental changes at large scale and spatial distribution of species and flock contributes to understand the temporal variation of the bird population at regional or local scales.
The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for establishing regional harvesting systems that ist the prerequisites for the forest mechanization. The factors restricting to the forest harvesting and logging methods from topographical aspects are studied for this purpose. Three main harvesting methods studied in this paper are : shortwood method, longwood method and full tree method. This study shows : the shortwood method is suitable for low, the longwood method for medium, the full tree method for high topographical conditions. For the logging methods, the focus of the study is on various ground based logging systems by animalpower, manpower, gravitation, wheeled & crawler vehicle and cable. The factors limiting the coverage of logging operation are slope and logging distance. The cable crane logging methods are classified by logging distance into short distance(to 300 or 400m), middle distance(to 700 or 800m) and long distance cable crane methods (over 700 or 800m). The wheeled vehicle method shows serious damages to forest resources, whereas the logging by log-line of the gravitation logging method and cable crane method tend to minimize such damages. The wheeled & crawler vehicle method also shows difficult to apply in the high slope conditions, whereas cable crane method can be applied to maximum 120% steep slope and uphill conditions.

This study identifies interest and reasons for small- and medium-sized technological firms to increase their uses of Technopark for product innovation and development. To determine whether interest exists, a research model was built, based upon the innovative process that small and medium sized enterprises'experience when developing capabilities. The model was characterized by its entrepreneurial orientation, organizational culture and support of the Technopark. Small and medium-sized technological firms operating in Technopark were surveyed in the Fall of 2019. Responses were collected and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Among the findings: supporting greater uses of Technopark can impact a firm's performance positively by mediating new product development capabilities. Firms with relatively limited resources and capabilities are most likely to benefit from using regional innovation hubs such as Technopark to improve their innovative capabilities and performance. Government and Technopark need to develop and implement demand-based support programs, especially ones to focus on improving the innovation capabilities of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

In this study, we analyzed long-term measurements and air quality simulation results of four criteria air pollutants ($PM_{10}$, $O_3$, $NO_2$, and $SO_2$) for 10 years, from 2006 to 2015, with emphasis on trends of annual variabilities. With the observation data, we conducted spatial interpolation using the Kriging method to estimate spatial distribution of pollutant concentrations. We also performed air quality simulations using the CMAQ model to consider the nonlinearity of the secondary air pollutants such as $O_3$ and the influence of long-range transport. In addition, these simulations are used to deduce the effect of long-term meteorological variations on trends of air quality changes because we fixed the emissions inventory while changing meteorological inputs. The nation-wide inter-annual variability of modeled $PM_{10}$ concentrations was $-0.11{\mu}g/m^3/yr$, while that of observed concentrations was $-0.84{\mu}g/m^3/yr$. For the Seoul Metropolitan Area, the inter-annual variability of observed $PM_{10}$ concentrations was $-1.64{\mu}g/m^3/yr$ that is two times rapid improvement compared to other regions. On the other hand, the inter-annual variability of observed $O_3$ concentrations is 0.62 ppb/yr which is larger than the simulated result of 0.13 ppb/yr. Magnitudes of differences between the modeled and observed inter-annual variabilities indicated that decreasing trend of $PM_{10}$ and increasing trend of $O_3$ are more influenced by emissions and oxidation states than meteorological conditions. We also found similar patterns in $NO_2$. However, $NO_2$ trends showed greater regional and seasonal differences than other pollutants. The analytic approach used in this study can be applicable to estimate changes in factors determining air quality such as emissions, weather, and surrounding conditions over a long term. Then analysis results can be used as important data for air quality management planning and evaluation of the chronic impact of air quality.
According to the rapid economic growth and the escalation of recreational tourism activities due to the change of job and working patterns, currently various traffic problems often occur in tourist areas. As tourist traffic, contrary to general traffic, is not regional but rather from outside the area of interest, it is hard to grasp the traffic situation surrounding the tourist area. Furthermore, since the traffic is concentrated during a limited tourist season, it is difficult to examine and solve the problem. In this study, in order to test the feasibility of introducing a traffic transfer system to reduce congestion in tourist areas, the authors considered the differences in traffic congestion between typical and tourist seasons and designed a willingness to pay model. The willingness to pay amount for a shuttle bus fare is assumed as 1,430 Won and 1,650 Won is assumed for a transfer parking charge. These amounts were slightly above the current bus fare in the study area, but many people thought that the introduction of a traffic transfer system would help to relieve the traffic congestion approaching the tourist area and to develop tourism resources. As the willingness to pay appeared high from the persons used in this study, it was indirectly confirmed that the introduction of a traffic transfer system would be a step in the right direction.
Since the Cold war, many countries in the world have reduced the number of their military personnel. However, it is also factual that regional conflicts have been incessantly occurring around the world. In turn, specific governmental policies are also needed in certain countries. Recently, a resolution growingly accepted in the advanced countries is the outsourcing of the resources and services of private military companies, which benefits for governments to manage their military force efficaciously. The utilization of private military force, however, may potentially generate ethical and practical issues because of the non-specified international codes to regulate private military companies, the political misuse of private personnel without concerning the loss of public military employees in danger zones, the safety of private personnel in the field, and the possibility of genocide. Prior to accept a private military companies which may be adequate in the environment of the Korean military, it is necessary to review previous cases of foreign countries. In addition, it is also needed to determine the plausible boundaries of the operation of private military companies with taking into consideration of the situations of the Korean military and private business. Finally, the systemic governmental support is requested in order to foster the business of private military.

This study was conducted to describe the community structure of macrobenthos in Aenggang Bay, the southern coast of Korea. Sampling was performed seasonally using van Veen grab from October 1994 to August 1995. A total of 233 species occurred; polychaetes accounted for 90 species, crustaceans 66 species, and mollusks 46 species. The mean density of macrobenthos was 1,358 ind./$m^2$, and polychaetes accounted for 64% of total abundance with its density of 874 ind./$m^2$. Mean macrobenthic biomass was 261.96 gWWt/$m^2$, and echinoderms accounted for 52.6% of total biomass with its biomass of 137.76 gWWt/$m^2$. Dominant species were a serpulid worm, Ditrupa arientina (245 ind./$m^2$), a cirratulid worm, Tharyx sp. (166 ind./$m^2$), and a scaphopod Fustaria nipponica (132 ind./$m^2$). Ditrupa arientina and Fustaria nipponica were distributed mainly in the mouth of Aenggang Bay, whereas Tharyx sp. showed its high density in the central region of the bay. The study area showed a regional difference in species richness, abundance, and biomass; the eastern region of the bay sustained relatively more abundant and richer macrobenthos than the western part. The study area could be divided into 5 regions by the cluster analysis based on the species composition of macrobenthos; the inner bay, two central regions, and two mouth areas of the bay.

The Holocene mud deposits in the southeastern innershelf of the Korean Peninsula were studied using the shallow seismic reflection profiles coupled with sediment sampling. The Holocene mud deposits are developed as a belt in the innershelf area from the mouth of the Nakdong River to off Pohang along the coastline. The surficial sediments in the study area gradually become finer and well sorted from south to north. The seismic facies in the Holocene sequence change northward from parallel reflectors in the mouth of the Nakdong River and northeastward prograding reflectors in the southern part off Ulsan to transparent layer in the nearshore off Ulsan to Pohang. The regional difference of seismic facies indicates that the Holocene sediment characters are varied with localities. By combining the surficial sediments properties with seismic facies patterns, the suspended sediments mostly supplied from the Nakdong River may be transported northward along the shore by the north-flowing Tsushima warm current. The Holocene mud sequence overlying the ravinement surface which is produced by erosion of underlying sediments during a rapid transgression can be interpreted as the highstand system tracts probably formed during the highstand of sea level similar to the present-day sea level.

This study presented a surface water quality modeling framework considering the spatial resolution of pollutant load estimation to better represent stream water quality characteristics in the Saemangeum watershed which has been focused on keeping its water resources sustainable after the Saemangeum embankment construction. The watershed delineated into 804 sub-watersheds in total based on the administrative districts, which were units for pollutant load estimation and counted as 739 in the watershed, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and agricultural structures such as drainage canal. The established model consists of 7 Mangyung (MG) sub-models, 7 Dongjin (DJ) sub-models, and 3 Reclaimed sub-models, and the sub-models were simulated in a sequence of upstream to downstream based on its connectivity. The hydrologic calibration and validation of the model were conducted from 14 flow stations for the period of 2009 and 2013 using an automatic calibration scheme. The model performance to the hydrologic stations for calibration and validation showed that the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE) ranged from 0.66 to 0.97, PBIAS were -31.0~16.5 %, and $R^2$ were from 0.75 to 0.98, respectively in a monthly time step and therefore, the model showed its hydrological applicability to the watershed. The water quality calibration and validation were conducted based on the 29 stations with the water quality constituents of DO, BOD, TN, and TP during the same period with the flow. The water quality model were manually calibrated, and generally showed an applicability by resulting reasonable variability and seasonality, although some exceptional simulation results were identified in some upstream stations under low-flow conditions. The spatial subdivision in the model framework were compared with previous studies to assess the consideration of administrative boundaries for watershed delineation, and this study outperformed in flow, but showed a similar level of model performance in water quality. The framework presented here can be applicable in a regional scale watershed as well as in a need of fine-resolution simulation.

Agrometeorological information is essential in many agricultural decisions if it reaches the user in a timely and appropriate manner. Agriculture is the backbone to local, regional, and global economic development. Thus, strengthening agrometeorological application to diverse agricultural sectors will benefit economic development. This paper discusses three distinct organizational minions that all share the same need for improved information technology. The World Meteorological Organization's (WMOs) Commission for Agricultural Meteorology (CAgM) has global responsibility for improved agrometeorological services of Members to aid agricultural production and to conserve natural resources. The United States Department of Agriculture, World Agricultural Outlook Board, publishes monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, considered to be a benchmark for both government and industry in production and trade decisions. The National Drought Policy Commission (NDPC), created by an act of the United States Congress, formulated a national drought policy based on preparedness rather than on crisis management. All three organizations recognize the need for IT applications in agricultural meteorology and have been active in implementing this technology. The development of information technology offers new means of dissemination of agrometeorological products. World Agrometeorological Information Service (WAMIS) has taken advantage of the global Internet application to offer WMO Members a dedicated web server to host agrometeorological bulletins and training modules.
