A Regional Cultural Comparison of Medical Tourism Preference in China

  • Purpose - The effect of regional culture has been acknowledged for decades. However, very little research takes it as an important issue in the medical tourism service decision process. This study focuses on regional culture to identify customers' preference for medical tourism in the international environment. It is proposed that regional culture may work as an critical moderator in the international medical tourism destination choice process. Especially, the destination attributes may vary according to regional culture. Research design, data, and methodology - By the questionnaire survey, the sample is collected from 2,041 potential Chinese residents in different regions of China. Regression analysis is constructed to test the effect of regional culture on Chinese customers' destination preference. Results - Results imply that regional culture plays a critical moderating role in the destination choice process. Results also indicate that destination attributes including medicine and travel characteristics are the important predictors of destination preference. Conclusions - This study provides the fundamental base to use regional culture as a descriptive variable for segmentation when establishing an effective marketing strategy. Furthermore, this research suggests that different strategies relied on destination attributes should be made to attract more Chinese customers for the development of medical tourism industry.

고급 차량음의 지역별 개인별 선호 음질에 관한 연구 (A Study on Regional and Individual Preference Sound Quality for Luxury Vehicle)

  • The vehicle sound classified into driving sound due to power-train, operating sound due to electric motor like sunroof, door lock and electronic sound. These vehicle sound has various features depend on the characteristic of sound that user required. And it based on cultural and regional difference of user. In this study, the user required vehicle sound characteristics for luxury sedan was investigated in overall viewpoint. And virtual target sound was developed through the result of user preference investigation. Next, Jury test was carried out in Germany, USA and Korea for evaluating the target sound. And the regional and individual difference of preference was analyzed through the result of jury test. This result of research will be contributed to design of vehicle sound quality and target sound setting.

인터넷 영양교육 참여 대학생의 지역별 식품의 맛과 기호도에 관한 연구 I. 주식 및 부식 (Regional Differences in Taste and Food Preferences of College Students Attending Nutritional Education via Internet I. Main and Side Dishes)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the regional differences in food preference among college students participating in a nutrition education program via internet. The subjects were 1672 college students (male: 762, female: 910) and divided into 4 regional groups. A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire on taste and food preferences. Data was collected via internet or by mail. Prevalence of the food preferences among regional groups was examined using SPSS statistical package. Food preferences were significantly associated with sex and region. Female students in Chungcheong and Kyungsang areas showed significantly higher preference of the hot taste compared to Seoul and Kyunggi areas. Female students in Seoul, Kyunggi and Chungcheong areas showed significantly higher preference of the boiled bean rice compared to the Kyungsang area. The preference for Kimchi stew of female students in Seoul and Kyunggi was significantly higher than those in Chungcheong and Kyngsang areas. Male students in the Chungcheong area showed significantly higher Preferences of the Young radish kimchi, while female students in this area showed significantly higher preference of the Radish kimchi compared to other areas. The preference for roasted laver of female students in Seoul, Kyunggi and Kyungsang areas was significantly higher compared to the Chungcheong area. The preference for fried chicken of male students in Seoul was significantly higher than that in other areas. The preference for bean sprouts and season bonnet bellflower of male students in Seoul, Chungcheong and Kyungsang areas were significantly higher compared to the Kyunggi area. 남북한 향토음식에 관한 기호도 및 인지도 분석을 통한 향토음식 상품화 전략 - 서울·경기지역 소비자를 대상으로 - (Commercialization Strategy Based on Analysis of Domestic Consumers' Preference and Awareness on South and North Korean Regional Cuisine - Research on Consumers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province -)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the preference and awareness of consumers residing in the capital area with respect to South and North Korean regional cuisine to provide baseline data for developing effective commercialization strategies. Methods: This survey was conducted among adults over the age of 19 years who were residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi province area, and data analysis was performed using SPSS WIN 18.0. Results: Analysis of the survey participants' preference for South and North Korean regional cuisine showed that Hwanghae province had the highest preference by $4.35{\pm}1.72$ points, whereas Gangwon province had the lowest preference by $3.75{\pm}0.66$ points. Factorial analysis on general characteristics of Korean regional cuisine resulted in 2 factors - 'locality' and 'health'. Cluster analysis showed that participants could be sorted into two clusters by their awareness of Korean regional cuisine - 'the lower cognitive group' and 'the higher cognitive group'. Cluster analysis on the tourism commercialization strategy for Korean regional cuisines showed that 'the higher cognitive group' had significantly higher awareness regarding the following 3 items: 'merchandising strategy', 'popularization strategy' and 'marketing strategy' (p<0.001). Cluster analysis of the world commercialization strategy showed that 'the higher cognitive group' had significantly higher awareness regarding all items of the 'R&D support strategy' and 'Food culture promotion strategy' categories than the 'the lower cognitive group' (p<0.01). Conclusion: Popularization strategies such as value perception based on the well-being concept, and standardization of recipes; merchandising strategies based on storytelling; and food and culture promotional strategies such as Korean cooking classes and food tasting events, were rated as effective commercialization strategies to increase the popularity of Korean regional cuisine.

지역.연령.성별에 따른 식품선호도에 관한 연구 -서울.전남 일부 지역을 중심으로- (The Analysis of Food Preference According to Region, Age, Sex)

  • This study was surveyed the preference for the regional food and food choices according to Region, Age, Sex. The subjects were 943 residing in Seoul and Cheon Nam region. The summarized result are as follows; The survey about the preference for the regional food showed that subjects in Cheon Nam has higher preference for the Cheon Nam food and subjects in Seoul for the Seoul food respectively. The most subjects marked very high preference scores about familiar food. The preference for the regional food and food choices were effected by main growth region. Subjects brought up in Cheon Nam like Cheon Nam food especially fresh raw fishes(WHOI) and fermented fishes(CHOT GAL) more than those brought up in Seoul, although both of them reside in Seoul now. But they were brought up in Cheon Nam, subjects residing in Cheon Nam or Seoul now showed no difference in preference for Cheon Nam food. Subjects in Cheon Nam showed higher preperence for fresh raw fishes(WHOI), fermented fishes(CHOT GAL), especially in older men.

고등학생의 의복 착용 동기, 캐주얼 브랜드 선호 및 구매 실태에 나타나는 지역과 성별 차이 (Regional and Gender Differences between High School Students Groups in Clothing-Wearing Motives, Casual Brand Preference and Actual Purchasing Condition)

  • This study intended to identify regional and gender differences between high school students groups in clothing-wearing motives, casual brand preference and actual purchasing condition. Using a $2{\times}2$ sampling frame, 100 responses were collected for each regional and gender group: male students in Seoul, females in Seoul, males in Gumi, and females in Gumi. In terms of clothing-wearing motives, Gumi students and female students showed more highly extroverted motives than males and Seoul students, respectively. And three groups were determined on the basis of clothing-wearing motives: the extroversion group, the introversion group, and the least clothing-cognizing group. Concerning the brand preference factor, female students showed more dispersed brand preference than males. Adidas and Puma were preferred by all 4 groups. Polo and Guess were preferred by Seoul students, and Clide, Banila B, and TBJ were preferred by female students. The determinants of brand preference were identified as quality, reliability, affirmative image, and some brand personas such as 'neat', 'natural' and 'polished'. The students from Seoul tend to pay more money for clothing than those from Gumi, and Seoul students' main purchasing place was identified as department store while Gumi students shop more at brand chain stores.

중국 지역 역사 박물관 심벌마크의 조형적 표현 특징 및 선호도 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics and Preference of the Symbol Mark Modeling Performance in Chinese Regional History Museums)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 중국에서 대표적인 지역 역사 박물관 심벌마크의 조형적 표현 특징과 규칙을 살펴보고 유형별 심벌마크에 대한 중국 소비자의 선호도를 연구하는데 있다. 먼저 중국 상위 100위 내 박물관 중 지역 역사 박물관 심벌마크의 조형적 표현 주제, 표현 유형, 표현 경향을 분석했다. 다음으로 주제와 표현 유형 간의 관계를 통해 디자인 규칙을 연구했다. 마지막으로 설문조사를 통해 주목성, 전달성, 친근성, 독창성, 심미성, 종합 선호도 등 6가지 측면에서 선호도를 분석했다. 연구 결과에 따르면 주제 측면에서 지역 역사 주제를 표현하는 경우가 가장 많았다. 표현 유형의 경우, 구상형과 한자의 형상화를 사용하는 심벌마크가 가장 많았다. 그리고 유형별 표현 내용과 특징을 살펴본 결과, 다음과 같이 몇 가지 특징을 도출할 수 있었다. 먼저, 구상형을 통해 지역 역사, 건축, 지역 자연 생태 환경 주제를 표현하는 경우가 많다. 그리고 추상형을 통해 이념을 표현하고 기하학적 도형을 통해 이념과 건축의 부분적 특징을 표현하였다. 문자, 구상형(건축, 지역 역사, 지역 자연 생태 환경 주제), 추상형(이념 주제) 세 가지 형식을 결합하고 혼합형인 문자의 형상화, 추상 및 문자 혼합형, 구상 및 추상 혼합형, 구상 및 추상 문자 혼합형으로 표현하였다. 조사 결과에 따르면 중국 관람객은 심벌마크 표현 유형에서 구상형, 표현 내용에서 지역 역사 주제에 대한 선호도가 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다.

좋은 수학 수업에 대한 고등학교 수학 교사의 선호도 비교 (Comparison of High School Math Teachers' Preferences for 'Good Mathematics Teaching')

  • The purpose of this study was to research and compare teachers' preferences for 'Great Math Class' by region and gender. The research was conducted on 261 high school math teachers by using non-probability sampling. As the results of the study, regional preference had no statistically significant difference in all four factors of 'Great Math Class' while gender preference had statistically significant difference only in the factor of teaching (methods) and learning methods. Both region and gender had statistically significant positive (+) relationship with preference for all four factors. This implies that it is necessary to consider socio-cultural factors rather than teachers' perception on class for regional differences in academic achievements in mathematics.

해조류의 기호도와 구매 요인에 관한 연구 (A Survey on Preference and Purchase Factors of Seaweed)

  • This study was carried out to investigate preference and purchase factors of seaweed in some regional residents of Korea. Subjects were residents (n = 1,218) whose residential area was divided into inland and coastal region and the survey was done during December 2007. Especially, purchase factors of seaweeds was conducted only in married females (n = 353). The subjects are composed of 46.5% male and 53.5% female. Regional distribution of subjects was found to be 16~17%, with highest ratio in the age bracket of 20~29 years old. Proportion of students, at 29.8%, was the highest ranking occupation of the subjects. Preference score of seaweeds by region was highest for laver followed by brown seaweed and sea tangle. In terms of preference by gender, female subjects displayed higher preference score for green laver (p < 0.01), seaweed fusiforme, brown seaweed, sea tangle (p < 0.001) than the male subjects. Considerations being made when purchasing seaweeds for each region were in the order of freshness, taste and nutrition. In comparing the inland and coastal region, scores of freshness, convenience, design and color for the coastal region was higher, displaying significant difference.

단양군 향토음식의 인지도와 선호도를 통한 활성화 방안 (Promotion Acknowledgement and Preference on Regional Foods in Dan Yang County)

  • 본 연구는 단양군이 개발한 3개의 고구려 음식과 19개의 향토음식에 대한 인지도와 선호도를 분석하여 향토음식 활성화의 기초자료로 제시하고자 한다. 설문지는 거주민과 관광객에게 각 150부씩 배포하고 261부를 회수하였고, 232부를 이용한 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 22개의 향토음식에서 '올갱이 해장국', '도토리 묵밥', '소백산 산채 비빔밥', '더덕마늘구이'가 인지도와 선호도에서 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 인지도 분석에서 남성은 '올갱이 해장국'과 '남한강민물매운탕', 거주민들은 '곤드레 마늘솥밥', '올갱이 해장국', '남한강 민물매운탕과 회', '소백산 산채비빔밥'을 높게 인지하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 집적화 특징을 갖고 있는 향토음식은 단지가 형성되어 많은 관광객을 유인하고 있는 반면에 최근에 개발된 고구려 음식은 영화셋트장 주변에 음식점 단지를 형성하고 지리적 표시제도 도입 또는 상품명에 단양을 넣어 인지도 제고와 지역경제 활성화에 도움이 될 것이다. 셋째, 선호도 분석에서 남성은 '마늘육회', 거주민들은 '곤드레 마늘솥밥', '올갱이 해장국', '소백산 산채비빔밥', 50대는 '곤드레 마늘솥밥', '남한강 민물매운탕', '소백산 산채비빔밥을 더 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 향토음식을 선호하는 노년층과 달리 젊은층을 어필할 수 있는 음식 맛과 각 재료의 대표적인 음식효능을 이용하여 선호도를 강화시켜야 할 것이다.
