  • Defense industry as 'a new dynamics of economic growth' policy implies driving policy of defense products' export. The purpose of this study is to suggest suitable strategies to meet with such policy in terms of region and individual nation. The strategies towards advanced region are joint sale strategy for the third countries, extension strategy of trade-off and development strategy of products to exploit niche markets. The strategies towards non-advanced regions are package strategy including exchange of economic development know-how, strengthening strategy of relationships to leading groups in national decision-making processes, exploit strategy of sales market through transfer discard and surplus equipments to other nations, government to government sale strategy towards countries holding low leveled equipment maintaining and management abilities. Finally, successive strategies require leaders' will, active sales diplomacy and active international cooperations of defense industry.

  • `Frost heave' is volumetric extension behavior of soil due to freezing. It could have a bad effect to foundations of infrastructures like building, road, railroad and bridge. Therefore, it is considered as a primary design parameter with 'adfreeze bond' and 'creep deformation' for foundation design in cold region. In some countries, studies for analyzing frost heave in many ways have being performed, however, only a few studies for evaluating frost susceptibility of soils by measuring frost heave rate of frozen soils in Korea. For analyzing frost heave as a foundation design parameter, both frost heaving rate and heaving pressure are should be addressed in study. Hence, in this study, development of experimental apparatus to evaluate frost heave and pressure is suggested.

  • A new type of extended element-free Galerkin method (XFEM) is proposed on this paper. The blending region which was inevitable in the extended finite element method and the extended meshfree method is removed in this method. For this end, two different techniques are developed. The first one is the modification of the domain of influence so that the crack tip is always placed on the edge of a domain of influence. The second method is the use of the Lagrange multiplier. The crack is virtually extended beyond the actual crack tip. The virtual extension was forced close by the Lagrange multiplier. The first method can be applied to two dimensional problems only Lagrange multiplier method can be used in both two and three dimensions.

  • Altimeter (Topex/Poseidon) and AVHRR (NOAA) data were used to study the variations and correlations of Sea Level (SL) and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the North East Asian Seas from November 1993 to May 1998. This region is influenced simultaneously to continental and oceanic climate as the border of the East Sea (Japan Sea). SL and SST have increased gradually every year because the global warming, and presented usually a strong annual variations in Kuroshio extension region with the influence of bottom topography.

  • Conventional character extraction methods extract character regions using methods such as color reduction, region split and merge and texture analysis from the whole image. Because these methods use many heuristic variables and thresholding values derived from a priori knowledge, it is difficult to generalize them algorithmically. In this paper, we propose a method that can extract character regions using a topographical feature extraction method and a point-line-region extension method. The proposed method can also solve the problems of conventional methods by reducing heuristic variables and generalizing thresholding values. We see that character regions can be extracted by generalized variables and thresolding values without using a priori knowledge of character region. Experimental results show that the candidate region extraction rate is 100%, and the character region extraction rate is over 98%.

  • This expressway passing the address region that is sightseeing of our country must consider in what do a convenience sincerity chase and a cultural side view. A region with development possibility and a spinoff about a cultural element must hold consideration at the same time to a sightseeing resort. This route that passed Gang-Reung, Yang-Yang, Sok-cho was connecting an obstetrics acid, and accessibility along investigation was a hard place. In this region, a classic house is tying scattered, and JeonSaCheong inviting an ancestral mortuary tablet is appearing. The private house was divided during a classic house by using typical Gangwon to the room where a floor was introduced by house with several wings Korean floor heater center form. A characteristic form a characteristic change was appearing on each rooms and structure, a plane according to the times, and to execute extension with a lease in a direction too was able to be seen, and Confucianism a little culture very remained in construction, and a memorial service space, a closet were able to be seen. Also, this local high house had a lot of regions composed of a relative and was with doing in the village that did to these house several houses.

  • Stability characteristics of hyperbolic reaction-diffusion equations with a reversible Brusselator model are investigated as an extension of the previous work. Intensive stability analysis is performed for three important parameters, Nrd, β and Dx, where Nrd is the reaction-diffusion number which is a measure of hyperbolicity, β is a measure of reversibility of autocatalytic reaction and Dx is a diffusion coefficient of intermediate X. Especially, the dependence on Nrd of stability exhibits some interesting features, such as hyperbolicity in the small Nrd region and parabolicity in the large Nrd region. The hyperbolic reaction-diffusion equations are solved numerically by a spectral method which is modified and adjusted to hyperbolic partial differential equations. The numerical method gives good accuracy and efficiency even in a stiff region in the case of small Nrd, and it can be extended to a two-dimensional system. Four types of solution, spatially homogeneous, spatially oscillatory, spatio-temporally oscillatory and chaotic can be obtained. Entropy productions for reaction are also calculated to get some crucial information related to the bifurcation of the system. At the bifurcation point, entropy production changes discontinuously and it shows that different structures of the system have different modes in the dissipative process required to maintain the structure of the system. But it appears that magnitude of entropy production in each structure give no important information related for states of system itself.

  • Prosthodontic decision and management should be considered the patient's aesthetic need for anterior teeth in maxillary edentulism. This case report describes 10-year clinical outcome of a maxillary edentulous patient was rehabilitated by means of an implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis (ISFDP) for the anterior region and a distal-extension removable partial denture (RPD) for the posterior region. The ISFDP was designed to splint 4 endosseous implants as one unit and engaged by the RPD. The edentulous mandible was restored by means of an implant-supported overdenture. Over the course, no major adverse event occurred other than wear, discoloration, and breakage of resin veneers and artificial teeth.

  • The Ayu Trough, located in the southern end of the Philippine Sea, represents a divergent boundary between the Philippine Sea and the Caroline Plates. A detailed geophysical survey was carried out in the Ayu Trough by R/V Onnuri. Topographically, the Ayu Trough resembles an slow spreading ridge. The trough can be divided into three sections: the south $(0^{\circ}-1^{\circ}30'N),\;middle\;(1^{\circ}30'-4^{\circ}N)$, and north $(4^{\circ}-6^{\circ}30'N)$. The seafloor in the middle section is characterized by features asymmetric with respect to the axis. These features were probably produced by NW-SE and NNW-SSE extensions and seem to support the argument that the opening of the Ayu Trough occurred in an oblique fashion. Farther south, a long transform fault but with a short offset defines the boundary between middle and southern sections. The axial depth increases a stepwise to the south of $1^{\circ}30'N$. A clear difference can be seen between the southern and middle sections with the latter exhibiting much higher mantle Bouguer anomaly values in the axial region. The anomaly indicates that the axial crust perhaps experienced a much higher degree of extension in the middle than in the southern section. The analyses of magnetic field data reveal that the region beyond 100km exhibits considerable variations, whereas the magnetic anomalies within 100km from the trough axis are very much subdued. This observation suggests that the opening of the Ayu Trough involved an initial stage of rifting of existing volcanic arcs, followed by production of new seafloor.

  • A cDNA clone encoding metallothionein-like protein (CitMT45), which was reported by Moriguchi et al. (1998), was isolated from Citrus fruits cDNA library through differential screening. Our cDNA clone has longer 5'untranslated region, compared to it isolated by Moriguchi et al. (1998). RNA blot analysis showed that the mRNA was abundant in fleshes than peels, leaves, and flowers, as a single transcript. However, regardless of tissue types, the blots showed the similar expression patterns in the process of development with some different profile. These results suggest that CitMT45 may play important roles in the development and/or senescence of various tissues of Citrus. A genomic clone corresponding to CitMT45 was isolated and found to have three exons and two introns. A primer extension analysis suggested that the transcription of CitMT45 gene was started at three start sites with different degrees. The 5'-flanking region was shown to contain a putative metal regulatory element (MRE) and low- temperature responsive element which suggests the possibility of metal-and cold-regulated transcription, respectively.
