The paper presents methods of determining the capacity and installation positions of regenerative inverters installed in DC 1500V electric railway system. We suggested a method that approximates using parameters related to substations where regenerative inverters are installed, railway lines and operating motor cars, and another that calculates using regenerative power obtained from Train performance Simulation (TPS) and Power Flow Simulation (PFS). We carried out TPS and PFS for Seoul Subway Line $5{\sim}8$, calculating regenerative power and determining substations where regenerative inverters would be installed and the optimal capacity and number of inverters to be installed.

In this paper, a regenerative braking algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for an independent front and rear motor drive parallel HEV. In the regenerative braking algorithm, the regenerative torque is determined by considering the motor capacity, motor efficiency, battery SOC, gear ratio, clutch state, engine speed and vehicle velocity. To implement the regenerative braking algorithm, HEV powertrain models including the internal combustion engine, electric motor, battery, manual transmission and the regenerative braking system are developed using MATLAB, and the regenerative braking performance is investigated by the simulator. Simulation results show that the proposed regenerative braking algorithm contributes to increasing the battery SOC, which recuperates 60 percent of the total braking energy while satisfying the design specification of the control logic. In addition, a control algorithm which limits the regenerative braking is suggested by considering the battery power capacity and dynamic response characteristics of the hydraulic control module.

Regenerative energy which is generated during brake periods of DC traction might cause malfunction or destruction of rectifier or any other power conversion devices caused the increment of DC line voltage. Regenerative energy storage system using super-capacitor is one of the method to control the DC line voltage safely. And super-capacitor is very important device as energy storage device. Therefore, In this paper, we designed the regenerative energy storage system using super-capacitor and propose the method about predicting the lifetime of super-capacitor established in storage system. According to the this research, we can estimate the proper replacement moment for the existed super-capacitor due to the safety of the system. And improve the reliability of regenerative energy storage system using super-capacitor.

Cycle simulation is peformed for two types of the desiccant cooling system incorporating a regenerative evaporative cooler. The cooling capacity and COP are evaluated at various effectiveness values of the regenerative evaporative cooler, the desiccant rotor and the sensible heat exchanger. As either of the effectiveness of the regenerative evaporative cooler or the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor increases, both the cooling capacity and COP increase, but the enthalpy leak ratio gives the opposite effect on the system performance. It is found that COP of cycle A mainly depends on the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor, while for cycle B enthalpy leak ratio of desiccant rotor has the major impact on COP. The effect of the sensible heat exchanger on the cooling capacity is small about 1/10 compared with those of other components.

In the DC electric railway system, the effective use of regenerative break energy is an important issue. Since regenerative break energy causes voltage rise or drop in the system, it should be also solved effectively. To solve the problems, applying electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) or voltage source converter (VSC) to the DC electric railway system has been studying. In this paper, the coordination of EDLC and VSC is proposed to solve the problem effectively with its coordinated control algorithm. The proposed method is tested to show its feasibility using Matlab/Simulink.

DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. EMU in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system will be increased. This paper present the adoption of developed inverter in commercial railway line and the test result procedure of developed inverter is presented.

Full Electric Vehicle needs regenerative braking system by it's limitation of energy storage capacity. In this study, we suggest the system trade-off strategy between regenerative braking system with ultra capacitor and vichile enegry efficency. Simulation with the UDDS scheduling show the relations of energy storage sizing, efficiency of regenerative braking system and ultra capacitor sizing.
Owing to the consistent increase in energy efficiency issues, studies for improving regenerative energy utilization have been receiving attention in the Urban DC railway systems, where currently, the utilization of regenerative energy is low due to the lack of a specific plan for using this energy. The regenerative energy in railway systems has a low efficiency problem which results in the increase of the catenary voltage and a possibility to create problems to the electrical devices connected to the system. This paper deals with the power integration of large urban railway subsystems to improve regenerative energy utilization where the railway subsystems are integrated with other railway subsystems to improve the energy efficiency. Through the case studies, to find the realistic effect of integrated operation, the Seoul Metro subsystems, namely Line 5 and Line 7, has been applied. Also, evaluation for the electricity cost saving has been performed by using KEPCO electricity cost table.

The experimental research was conducted to setup a performance prediction logic for the regenerative cooling system on a small scale liquid rocket engine using kerosene and LOX. Total heat flux of the combustion gas side was determined for the flow rate of the coolant, combustion pressure using the calorimeter thrust chamber. Based on the experimental investigation, a performance prediction scheme for the regenerative cooling system is setup in our own way. A performance prediction logic for the regenerative cooling system has been developed by the correction scheme of the combustion gas side. The key parameters determining the temperature limitation of the coolant are the mass flow rate of the coolant and the length of the combustion chamber and the nozzle. And the parameters to control the limitation of the usable wall temperature are the number of channels and wall thickness.

For the past few years, the concern for clean energy has been greatly increased. Ocean thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) power plants are studied as a viable option for the supply of clean energy. In this study, we examined the thermodynamic performance of the OTEC power system for the production of electric power. Computer simulation programs were developed under the same condition and various working fluids for closed Rankine cycle, regenerative cycle, Kalina cycle, open cycle, and hybrid cycle. The results show that the regenerative cycle showed the best system efficiency. And then we examined the thermodynamic performance of regenerative cycle OTEC power system using the condenser effluent from Uljin nuclear power plant instead of the surface water. The highest system efficiency of the condition was 4.55% and the highest net power was 181 MW.
