This paper presents the results of a theoretical study of the effect of radiation during free convective laminar film boiling for methanol/water binary mixtures on an isothermal vertical wall at atmospheric pressure. With the well-known boundary layer theory as a basis, a theoretical model has been formulated into consideration for mass diffusion at liquid phase. The equations are numerically solved by a similarity method to investigate the effects of radiation emissivity on the surface with various parameters such as wall superheat and composition of more volatile component at liquid phase far from the wall. From the results, the distributions of the physical quantifies are investigated in both phases. New correlations are proposed to predict the heat transfer coefficient of binary mixtures. It is shown that the proposed correlations are in good agreement with numerical results and with Bromley's correlation within maximum $11\%$ errors. It is also found that as the wall superheat is increased, radiation effect becomes more important.
Manual type manifold gauge has been used for charging the refrigerant in the refrigeration systems. In this case, the refrigerant is released to the ambient during the hose-switching period. :he objectives of this study are to develop a novel automatic refrigerant charging system, and to quantify the effect of the automatic systems on the reduction of the non-condensable gas and the contamination of the compressor oil. The automatic charging system makes the pressure test, vacuum test, and refrigerant charging work very simple and easy because the charging hose does not have to be switched many times. It is found that the amount of water in the SiO$_2$and the compressor oil reduces to l/4 times of that for the manual type manifold gauge and the refrigerant is not released to the ambient at all when the automatic charging system is adopted.
It is possible to prevent a piston from contacting the cylinder by changing the shape of the piston or by applying micro-textures, such as micro-grooves or micro-holes, over the piston surface. Usually, the minimum radial clearance reaches its minimum value at the beginning of the suction stroke because the pressure around the piston is low and almost axisymmetric such that the net pressure force on the piston is not sufficiently high to support the piston from touching the cylinder. In this study, we apply a series of saw-tooth-shaped grooves on the piston surface, and numerically investigate the effects of groove depth, groove angle, and the number of grooves with radial clearance variations using a finite difference method. We conduct a dynamic analysis of the piston for various changes in groove geometries to obtain the minimum radial clearance variation for the entire compression cycle. The minimum radial clearance increases while friction loss decreases when we apply the series of saw-tooth-shaped grooves on the piston. In addition, we analyze the impact of the change in the groove shape variable due to changes in radial clearance. Leakage variations are relevant to radial clearance, but have almost no effect on the groove parameters.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance characteristics of seawater cooling system for a fishing vessel. The circulation amount of refrigerant, condensation capacity, evaporation capacity, compression work and coefficient of performance(COP) were analyzed as the heat source temperature changed. The experimental setup consisted of an open-type compressor, a shell&tube type condenser, an evaporator and an expansion valve. The heat source was controlled by a constant temperature chamber. The main results of this study are summarized as follows. The condensation capacity increased with increasing heat source temperature, and it was confirmed that the effect of circulating amount of refrigerant was dominant. The amount of heat for vaporization was almost constant even though the temperature of the heat source increased. On the other hand, the compression power was increased. This is because the compression ratio increases as the condensation pressure, the enthalpy difference between inlet and outlet, the amount of circulating refrigerant increases. The performance coefficient of this system showed a tendency decreasing with increasing heat source temperature. Therefore, the basic data of the seawater cooling system for the maintenance of the catch line of the shore fishing boats was acquired through this study, and it is considered that it will be sufficient for the actual design.
This study was designed to investigate the stability for chemical contents and biological activities of Mahwang-tang (MT) depending on the preservation temperature and periods. MT decoction pouches were preserved for 3 months at room temperature (RT, $23{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) and refrigeration ($4^{\circ}C$). To evaluate the stability of MT decoction, pH and sugar content were estimated. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis were performed to quantify the contents of marker compounds in MT. Anti-inflammatory effects of MT were evaluated to suppress the generation of nitric oxide, prostaglandin $E_2$ and cytokines (tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ and interleukin-6) in the RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide. Total antioxidant capacity of MT was determined by ABTS radical scavenging activity. The pH of storage method and period showed a tendency to decrease gradually with time. There were no changes in sugar content depending on the preservation temperature and periods of MT decoction. Among the major components of MT, cinnamaldehyde was reduced time-dependently for 3 months of storage at RT. The inflammatory effect and antioxidant capacity of MT were reduced time-dependently at both RT and $4^{\circ}C$. Our results suggest that the preservation period of MT decoction is recommended in refrigeration within 3 months or less rather than at RT.
This paper studies the effects of A-site substitution by barium on the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $Pr_{0.5}Sr_{0.5-x}Ba_{x}MnO_{3}$ (x = 0, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.1). The tetragonal crystal structures of the samples are confirmed by room temperature X-ray diffraction. The dependence of the Curie temperature ($T_C$) and the magnetic entropy change (${\Delta}S_M$) on the Ba doping content has been investigated. The samples of all doping contents undergo the second order phase transition. As the concentration of Ba increased, the maximum entropy change ($|{\Delta}S_M|_{max}$) increased gradually, from 1.15 J $kg^{-1}$$K^{-1}$ (x = 0) to 1.36 J $kg^{-1}$$K^{-1}$ (x = 0.1), in a magnetic field change of 1.5 T. The measured value of $T_C$ is 265 K, 275 K, 260 K and 250 K for x = 0, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.1, respectively. If combining these samples for magnetic refrigeration, the temperature range of ~220 K and 290 K, where |${\Delta}S_M$|max is stable at ~1.27 J $kg^{-1}$$K^{-1}$ and RCP = 88.9 $J{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ for ${\Delta}H$ = 1.5 T. $Pr_{0.5}Sr_{0.5-x}Ba_{x}MnO_{3}$ compounds, are expected to be suitable for magnetic-refrigeration application due to these magnetic properties.

In this paper, pressure drop through a capillary tube is modeled to determine the length of a capillary tube for a given set of conditions. HCFC-22 and its alternatives, HFC-134a, R407B, and R410A are used as working fluids. The conditions on which the model is tested are as follows : condensing temperature; 40.0, 45.0, 50.0, $55.0^{\circ}C$, degree of subcooling;0.0, 2.5, $5.0^{\circ}C$, capillary tube exit condition;choked flow, capillary tube diameter;1.2~2.4mm, mass flow rate;5.0~50.0g/sec. The results justify the use of Stoecker's model which yields the results very close to the values in ASHRAE handbook. While McAdams' method yields much better results than Duckler's in calculating the viscosity of the fluid in 2-phase, the friction factor suggested by Stoecker seems to be the best for capillary tubes of large diameter used in residential air conditioners. For each refrigerant, 372 data with various variables are calculated by the model. The results show that capillary tube length varies very uniformly with changes in condensing temperature and degree of subcooling. Based on this fact, regression analysis is performed to determine the dependence of mass flow rate on the length and diameter of a capillary tube, condensing temperature, and degree of subcooling. Thus determined correlation yields a mean deviation of 2.36% for 1,488 data, showing an excellent agreement.

Two-phase flow boiling heat transfer of R-410A in horizontal small tubes was reported in the present experimental study. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 5 to 40 kW/$m^2$ a mass flux range of 170 to 600 kg/$m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 3 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The test section was made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 0.5 and 3.0 mm, and lengths of 330 and 3000 mm, respectively. The test section was heated uniformly by applying a direct electric current to the tubes. The effects on heat transfer of mass flux, heat flux, inner tube diameter, and saturation temperature were presented. The experimental heat transfer coefficients are compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficients correlation based on the superposition model for R-410A in small tubes was developed with mean deviation of 10.13%.
For the hydrogen liquefaction, the large amount of energy is consumed, due to precooling, liquefaction and o-p conversion processes. The aim of this work is to improve the performance of hydrogen liquefaction process by introducing the new energy saving processes, that are the liquid nitrogen precooling process by using LNG cold energy, and the new design of cold box insulation using cold air circulation. The results show that the indirect use of LNG cold energy in precooling process enables not only to get energy saving, but to make safer operation of liquefaction plant. In new cold box, the energy loss of equipments could be reduced by nearly 35%~50% compared to the present perlite insulation, if insulation structure is organised as 3mm steel wall/20cm PUF/5cm air/20cm PUF/equipment. Additionally the equipments installed in cold box can get cooling effect, if the temperature is higher than the temperature of cold air. The application of this results can gives to increase the liquid yield of about 50% substantially in industrial hydrogen liquefaction plant.

Although the production of dry-aged beef has been increasing, most purveyors are unaware of the changes in quality that ensue after completion of the aging period and do not adhere to specific guidelines for its packaging and storage. The objective of this study was to investigate the storage stability of vacuum-packaged dry-aged beef based on changes in microbial, physicochemical, and sensory properties during refrigeration at $4^{\circ}C$ for 21 d. The total aerobic bacterial count exceeded 6 Log CFU/g at approximately day 11 and significantly increased after day 14. Freshness indicators such as pH and volatile basic nitrogen content were acceptable until day 14 and 21, respectively. Based on the evaluation of overall sensory acceptability, the dry-aged beef was acceptable until 14 d without any sensory deterioration. Therefore, vacuum-packaged dry-aged beef could be stored for 11 d at $4^{\circ}C$ without any adverse effect on its microbial and sensory quality.
