  • The present simulation focuses on the effect of the shape of capillary tube-suction line heat exchangers(SLHX), The results in the three cases of the SLHX types show that both of the location and length of heat exchange section influence the coefficient of performance(COP) and cooling capacity. Simulation shows the COP may be improved by 4.6% and the cooling capacity may be improved by 13.6% in the Lateral type.

  • Single-effect $CH_3OH-LiI-ZnBr_2$ and $C_2H_5OH-LiI$ absorption heat pumps are simulated to evaluate feasibility as heating device. These systems are predicted to give higher heating COPs in wide operating ranges compared to conventional systems. Among the two systems, the $C_2H_5OH-LiI$ system is found to be more advantageous for operating in extremely cold weather due to the large solubility of Lil in $C_2H_5OH$.

  • A revised VX cycle using ammonia/water as the working fluid is a cycle which is suitable to produce cooling utilizing low temperature hat sources. The cycle was analyzed numerically to investigate the effects of the design and operating conditions on the performance. It was shown that both COP and cooling capacity were significantly influenced by the performance of he rectifier. Insufficient UA of the rectifier reduced both ammonia mass fraction and mass flow rate of the vapor entering the condenser, which produced cooling effect in the evaporator. As the temperature and the mass flow rate of the heat source increased, both COP and exergetic efficiency decreased due to the irreversibilities produced in heat exchangers, but cooling capacity did not vary much. Cooling capacity increased significantly as the coolant temperature decreased, although COP and exergetic efficiency remained nearly constant.

  • An efficiency of a refrigeration cycle and a reliability of a compressor can be reduced if a refrigerant including excessive lubricating oil is exhausted from the compressor. Thus, the analysis of the oil behavior inside the compressor is required to prevent the problem. A tested rotary compressor with visualization windows has been manufactured. in this study to investigate the oil behavior using developed visualization techniques. The oil behaviors at various operating conditions have been quantified to obtain the relationship with the outlet pressure inside the compressor. Also, the effect of the operating conditions on the quantity of the exhausted oil from the rotary compressor has been investigated using a manufactured test model.

  • Recently, many researchers have studied the performance of the transcritical $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle in order to improve the system efficiency. In this study, the length of IHX in the $CO_2$ ejector cycle was varied so as to evaluate the performance improvement. As a result, compressor work and cooling capacity was increased by 3% and 5% as the length of internal heat exchanger was changed from 3 m to 15 m. The best COP was appeared at internal heat exchanger length of 12 m, and it was 3.01. Besides, the length of internal heat exchanger has a big effect to pressure lift ratio and entrainment ratio in the ejector $CO_2$ cycle and it may be changed with operating conditions and system specifications.

  • Since cryogens are stored at very low temperatures, the cryogenic storage systems are quite sensitive to heat leaks. Even though the vessel operated under sealed condition with vacuum insulation and reflective coatings are used, the heat leakage into the vessel is still unavoidable. Therefore, this paper concerns with numerical study of self-pressurization used to analysis the optimum design with the variation volume fraction, effect of heat flux and storage pressure of liquid nitrogen. The result shows that as the volume fraction increases, the pressure rise reduces and the relatively at atmosphere pressure is better than the higher one. In addition, higher heat flux leads the pressure rise increases faster than low one. The additional of heat pipe system to reduce the pressure rise rate also has been done. By this comparison, the optimum design for storage umbilical cord blood can be selected.

  • The rolling piston type rotary compressor has become one of the most successful types because of its compactness and high-speed operation. The analysis described here is part of a research program directed toward maximising these advantages in refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in the critical sliding component is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. Therefore, theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of rotary compressor for refrigeration & air-conditioning system is studied. And the Newton-Raphson method is used for the EHI. analysis between vane and rolling piston in the rotary compressor. The results show that the rotational speed of shaft and the discharge pressure have an important effect upon the friction force and the energy loss between vane and rolling piston. This results give important basic data for the further lubrication analysis and design of the rotary compressor.

  • Electric power is generated by Seeback Effect if there is thermal difference in pettier module. Peltier module is composed by alumina, Bi-Te semiconductor and insulation (or air). If load is increased in pettier module, the alumina of module will be destroyed. One of the preventing method of module destruction is using damper between module and heat source. But the electric Power is dropped because of decrease of thermal difference, if thermal conductivity of damper was tourer than other thermoelectric materials. We design, Polymer Pad for enhancing thermoelectric porter. As the result of these experiment, Polymer Pad is more superior than the Rubber in the stability and thermal conduction.

PLZT(8/65/35) 세라믹스의 소결온도에 따른 유전 및 전기열량 특성 (Dielectric and Electrocaloric Characteristics of PLZT(8/65/35) Ceramics as a Function of Sintering Temperature)

  • In this study, in order to develop relaxor ferroelectric ceramics for refrigeration device application with large electrocaloric effect and low sintering temperature, PLZT(8/65/35) ceramics was fabricated using conventional solid-state method with the variation of sintering temperature ($1,050^{\circ}C$, $1,100^{\circ}C$, $1,200^{\circ}C$). The XRD pattern of all specimens indicated general perovskite structure with secondary phase. From the results of temperature dependence of dielectric constant, the $T_C$ (ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition temperature) was shifted toward high temperature with increasing sintering temperature. When the specimen was sintered at $1,100^{\circ}C$, the optimal value of ${\Delta}T{\sim}0.349^{\circ}C$ in ambient temperature of $215^{\circ}C$ was appeared. It is considered that PLZT(8/65/35) ceramics possess the possibility of refrigeration device application.

  • Pilot operated control valve for $CO_2$ refrigerant is a valve that can perform various functions according to the user's intention by replacing pilot units, widely used for flow rate, pressure, and temperature control of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. In addition, $CO_2$ refrigerant, that requires high pressure and low critical temperature, can be installed and used in all positions of the refrigeration system, regardless of high or low pressure. In this paper, response characteristics are modeled and analyzed based on behavior of the main piston of the pilot-operated control valve. Although various factors influence operation of the main piston, this paper analyzes the effect of equilibrium pressure depending on valve installation position and application, and inlet and outlet orifice size of the load pressure feedback chamber to determine feedback characteristics of the main piston. As a result, it was possible to quantitatively analyze the effect of change in equilibrium and load pressure feedback chamber flow path size on the change in main piston dynamic and static characteristics.
