A Study on Performance Characteristics of Heat Exchanger for Heat Pump with R410A Refrigerant (R410A 냉매를 사용한 열펌프용 열교환기의 형상에 따른 성능특성 연구)

  • The air and refrigerant side heat transfer performances are key parameters to improve heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger including the fan performance. Design of the fins, treatment of the tube inside, tube diameter and tube array effect heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is used as a condenser at cooling mode and used as an evaporator at heating mode in the heat pump system. The heat pump system uses R410A as the refrigerant. The heat exchangers are consisted with 7 mm diameter tubes with slit-type fins. The study was conducted with variation of arrangement of the refrigerant path and air flow rate and refrigerant pressure drop and heat transfer rate were measured with a code tester. The capacity of the 3 path heat exchanger is more efficient than 2 or 4 path heat exchangers in heating or cooling modes.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of refrigerant heat exchanger on the performance of type II absorption heat pump performance using numerical analysis. Two heat exchange installation methods were used: solution to refrigerant and waste hot water to refrigerant. These methods were compared to the standard model of hot water flow without using refrigerant heat exchanger. When waste hot waters were bypassed to refrigerant heat exchanger, COP was not affected. However, steam mass generation rates were increased compared to those of the standard model. When solutions were bypassed to the refrigerant heat exchanger, results were different depending on the place where the solution rejoined. COP and steam mass generation rates were lower compared to those when waste heat water was passed to refrigerant heat exchanger. Thus, it is possible to obtain higher steam mass generation rates by using waste water and installing refrigerant heat exchanger.

Experimental Study on R-410A Evaporation Heat Transfer Characteristics in Shell and Plate Heat Exchanger (셀 앤 플레이트 열 교환기에서의 R-410A 증발열전달에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The evaporation heat transfer experiments are conducted with the shell and plate heat exchanger (S&PHE) without oil in the refrigerant loop using R-410A. An experimental refrigerant loop has been established to measure the evaporation heat transfer coefficient h. of R-410A in a vertical S&PHE. Two vertical counter flow channels were formed in the S&PHE by three plates haying a corrugated trapezoid shape of a $45^{\circ}C$ chevron angle. UP flow of the boiling R-410A in one channel receives heat from the hot down flow of water in the other channel The effects of the refrigerant mass flux. average heat flux. refrigerant saturation temperature and vapor qualify are explored in detail. Similar to the case of a plate heat exchanger. even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the S&PHE remains turbulent. The Present data shows that the evaporation heat transfer coefficients of R-410A increased with the vapor qualify. The results indicate a rise in the refrigerant mass flux caused an increase in the h.. Raising the imposed wall heat flux is found to slightly improve h., while h, is found to be lower at a higher refrigerant saturation temperature. Based on the present data. empirical correlation of the evaporation heat transfer coefficient is proposed.

Modeling of Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger (핀-관 열교환기의 모델링)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of operational and design factors on the performance characteristics of a horizontal fin-tube heat exchanger under phase change conditions for refrigerant. The flow and heat transfer in the heat exchanger are simulated numerically taking into account the variations of heat transfer coefficients, thermodynamic and flow properties of refrigerant, and the axial heat conduction in the tube wall. As the results of this study, it was found that the annular flow model was more reasonable physically than the homogeneous one for the two phase flow of refrigerant and axial heat conduction of tube wall did not have a great influence on the analysis. The effects of refrigerant pressure, mass flow rate of air, diameter of tube and the number of fins per unit length of tube were also discussed.

Condensation Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop of R-134a in the Oblong Shell and Plate Heat Exchanger

An experimental refrigerant loop has been developed to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient $h_r$ and frictional pressure drop ${\Delta}p_f$ of R-134a in a vertical oblong shell and plate heat exchanger. Four vertical counter flow channels were formed in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger by four plates having a corrugated sinusoid shape of a $45^{\circ}$ chevron angle. The effects of the refrigerant mass flux, average heat flux, refrigerant saturation temperature and vapor quality were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. The results indicate that the condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops increase with the vapor quality. A rise in the refrigerant mass flux causes an increase in the $h_r\;and\;{\Delta}p_f$. Also, a rise in the average heat flux causes an increase in the $h_r$. But the effect of the average heat flux does not show significant effect on the ${\Delta}p_f$. On the other hand, at a higher saturation temperature, both the $h_r\;and\;{\Delta}p_f$. found to be lower. Based on the present data, the empirical correlations are provided in terms of the Nusselt number and friction factor.

Evaporation Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Characteristics of R-134a in the Oblong Shell and Plate Heat Exchanger

Four vertical counterflow channels were formed in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger by four plates of geometry with a corrugated sinusoid shape of a 45 chevron angle. Upflow of refrigerant R-134a boils in two channels receiving heat from downflow of hot water in other channels. The effects of the refrigerant mass flux, average heat flux, refrigerant saturation temperature and vapor quality of R-134a were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. The results indicate that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient h$\_$r/ and pressure drop Δp$\_$f/ increase with the vapor quality. A rise in the refrigerant mass flux causes an increase in the h$\_$r/ and Δp$\_$f/. But the effect of the average heat flux does not show significant effect on the h$\_$r/ and Δp$\_$f/. Finally, at a higher saturation temperature, both the h$\_$r/ and Δp$\_$f/ are found to be lower. The empirical correlations are also provided for the measured heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop in terms of the Nusselt number and friction factor.

  • In vapor compression systems which use refrigerant as a working fluid, the oil is commonly used for compressor lubrication. Since the presence of lubrication oil can change the characteristics properties of refrigerant, the oil affects the heat transfer performance of heat exchanger to a large extent. In this paper, we focus on the effect of PVE oil experimentally on heat transfer performance of the fin-tube heat exchangers which use R410A as a refrigerant. To evaluate the heat transfer performance, the refrigerant to air type test facility chamber has been used. Fin-tube heat exchanger with grooved has been tested while according to the oil mass fraction variation from nearly zero to 1.7 wt%. It was found that the low level of oil mass fraction has an obvious effect on heat transfer performance, while the high level seems no significant influence. The influence of the oil mass fraction to heat transfer performance, however, is different between evaporation and condensation.

  • An experimental study on the performance evaluation of a brazed plate heat exchanger with 10USRT of normal cooling capacity has been carried out. In the present study, a brazed plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle $25^{\circ}$with refrigerant R-22. Refrigerant mass flux was ranged from 23 to 58 kg/$m^2$s in condensation, and from 22 to 53 kg/$m^2$s in evaporation. The heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are increased as the mass flux increases. The water side pressure drop is increased as the cooling water flow rate and chilled water flow rate increase, while mass flux has little effect. It is also shown that the system performance can be improved by enlarging condensation heat transfer area.

  • A new method is presented for developing a simulation program which can analyze the heat transfer characteristics of fin-tube heat exchanger. This method is able to describe several types of refrigerant circuit arrangement. The delivery path of air and refrigerant properties is simplified by transforming three-dimensional array into one-dimensional array. By comparing simulated results with experiment results, the deviation was 8.2%. Several fin-tube heat exchangers of different design factors and operating conditions were simulated using this program. It was shown that this program could be used for designing practical fin-tube heat exchangers.
