  • We improved an efficiency of fiber-optic current transformer by using a metal-coated sensor coil. To reduce the linear birefringence, we used a length of spun fiber as sensor coil, and then used a flint glass fiber coil for comparison. To make the sensor coil in the reflection type, we used different reflection mirrors at the end of the sensor coil, such as a Faraday rotator mirror, a simple mirror, a metal-coated fiber end and a simple fiber end. From the experimental results, the linear error of current measurements were less than ${\sim}$ 0.2 % regardless of the mirror types. The metal-coated sensor was the most cost-effective considering the fabrication cost and the simple structure.

  • We propose a simple in-line variable optical attenuator (VOA) based on the bending effect of tapered single mode fibers. The influence of the taper structure and the reflective index of the external medium surrounding the taper region on the bending loss of the tapered fiber have been investigated experimentally. An attenuation range exceeding 35 dB and a very low excess loss of < 0.2 dB at 1550 nm were achieved. The measured polarization dependent loss of the present VOA at the attenuation level of 10 dB, 20 dB, and 30 dB were 0.1 dB, 0.2 dB, and 0.5 dB, respectively.

  • Thicknesses of the hase concrete blocks supportmg large machmes were estimated by analyzing the res- 0 ¬nance modes of mechanical Vibrations The vibration was produced by the mechanical impact with steel ball drop and detected by a wideband comcal piezoelectric transducei. The detected signals were analyzed by FFT and thicknesses of specimen were determined by the resonant frequency of vibratIon. For the layered concrete block, the estimated thickness is dependent on the acoustic reflective index at the boundary between layers. The estimated thickness up to 100em were in goo:l agreement with the real value. In additlOn. this technique could be applicable to the estimation of the bondmg status of the layered structures.

  • The aim of this study is to make the technical standards for certificating a high efficiency metal-halide lamps and reflectors using the high intensity discharge lamps, to accomplish the practical energy saving effect. Metal-halide lamps are certificated by stabilzed and restarting time, lamp voltage, current, power and light output efficiency. The high illumination reflectors using HID lamps are certificated by testing reflective index, fading, the melting point, glare and install spacing factor.

  • When simulate long distance infrared image in the laboratory the Infrared Refractive Collimator is used. In this case, infrared light reflected from the surface of the lens and target. The reflected infrared light causes Narcissus. Narcissus degrades the quality of the infrared image. To minimize Narcissus optimize the reflective index and placement of the lenses, lenses and target surface coated.

  • In this study, the optical properties of localized surface plasmon resonance sensor using optical fiber was analyzed as the variation of a size and surface density of gold nano particles on the etched optical fiber surface. It is shown that a size and surface density of gold nano particles on optical fiber surface are controlled by $Na_3$ citrate quantity and pH of gold colloid solution. To measure the sensitivity, peak wavelength of absorbance spectrum was detected as the reflective index of the solution. The sensor sensitivity is linearly dependent on the size and surface densities of gold nano particles from the results of optical experiments.

  • Multi-temporal data is used to determine the rate of deforestation between the years 1976, 1987 and 2000. Three Landsat TM images, for each period, are pre-processed, mosaicked and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) values computed. Based on the values, totally non-forested areas are masked out. The forested areas, both partially and wholly, show a very high degree of correlation between all the bands (reflective), thus necessitating application of principal component analysis. The first two principal components and NDVI values (scaled to 0 ? 255) are used in K-means unsupervised classification to distinguish forest from non-forest areas (that appeared as forest at first). Comparison of the resulting thematic maps gives an annual deforestation rate of roughly 15 0000ha. or 2% between any two epochs.

  • In this paper, the measurements of received power was shown and compared in two developed 5.8GHz 25W wireless charging systems. One is the system using commercial transmission antenna, and the other is the system using transmission antenna combined with metamaterial. The system combined with metamaterial shows higher received power due to negative reflective index of metamaterial. In addition, a comparative analysis of the systems shows that the transmission efficiency in the systems can decrease the real gain of transmission antenna due to higher side robe of beam pattern. The side robe beams of transmitting antenna interferes transmitted beam with the reflected beams from the bottom region due to the side robes. The failure problems of the RF wireless charging systems are discussed and proposed in order to charge mobile devices through the RF wireless charging system.

  • Until now, evaluating the efficacy of brightening mainly depends on total reflective light measurement. For example, SHV (Saturation, Hue, Value), $L^*$ $a^*$ $b^*$ (CIELAB color space system) color space system was used and lightness and saturation changes were chosen as major parameters for evaluating brightening effect. However, those parameters were calculated from total reflective light on the skin and it is hard to evaluate perceptive efficacy such as luminescence, and glossy. In this research, we applied new method for estimating change of luminescence of skin by using 'Lumiscan' which uses polarized light for detecting surface and inside reflective light independently. We also tested 15 different parameters for finding correlations between luminescence and those parameters. As a results, our 2 different brightening products showed 5 ~ 9 % increase of luminescence at 4 and 8 weeks. And we also found that skin roughness (-28 %), melanin index (-17 %), redness (-7 %), hydration (15 %), and lightness (6 %) were related to luminescence of skin.

  • An omni-directional, graded-index and textured ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ anti-reflective(AR) coating films for the electro optical tracking system(EOTS) by e-beam evaporation method are presented. we achieved that the graded index structure can minimize image tracking interference of EOTS which is comparable to a general AR coating films. Optimized ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ AR coating films lead to decreasing Fresnel reflection by gradient refractive index. According to our experiment results, ZnO nanorods with $MgF_2$ AR coating films can be used for various electro optical system to improve the optical performance.
