  • The availability of a high quality open source CFD simulation platform like OpenFOAM offers new R&D opportunities by providing direct access to models and solver implementation details. Efforts have been made by Hydro-Qu$\'{e}$bec to adapt OpenFOAM to hydroturbines for the development of steady-state capabilities. This paper describes the developments that have been made to implement new turbomachinery related capabilities: multiple frames of reference solver, domain coupling interfaces (GGI, cyclicGGI and mixing plane) and specialized boundary conditions. Practical use of the new turbomachinery capabilities are demonstrated for the analysis of a 195-MW Francis turbine.

  • Surface Image Velocimetry (SIV) is an instrument to measure water surface velocity by using image processing techniques. It gives us one of the easiest ways to measure water velocity. However, since it requires a set of plane survey data to estimate the velocity, it may give us some kind of misconcept that its usage would be difficult or cumbersome in spite of its handiness. If it has a feature that can estimate the plane survey data easily, it may be treated as like one of the conventional propeller velocimetries and its applicability would be improved so high. The present study is to propose a method to estimate the plane geometry of the physical coordinate with a calibrated camera. With the feature we can half-automatize the estimating procedure for the whole water velocity field. Photogrammetric technique to calculate the plane coordinates of the reference points with a calibrated camera was studied, which has originally studied for long time in the field of computer vision. By applying this technique to SIV, it is possible to estimate the location of reference coordinates for projective transform without plane survey. With this procedure the cumbersome plane survey for the reference points is omitted. One example application of the developed method showed fairly good results with insignificant errors.

  • Objective: Planning of incisal position is crucial for optimal orthodontic treatment outcomes due to its consequences on facial esthetics and occlusion. A systematic summary of the proposed parameters is presented. Methods: Studies on Google Scholar©, PubMed©, and Cochrane Library, providing quantitative information on optimal central incisor position were included. Results: Upper incisors supero-inferior position (4-5 mm to upper lip, 67-73 mm to axial plane through pupils), antero-posterior position (3-4 mm to Nasion-A, 3-6 mm to A-Pogonion, 9-12 mm to true vertical line, 5 mm to A-projection, 9-10 mm to coronal plane through pupils), bucco-lingual angulation (4-7° to occlusal plane perpendicular on models, 20-22° to Nasion-A, 57-58° to upper occlusal plane, 16-20° to coronal plane through pupils, 108-110° to anterior-posterior nasal spine), mesio-distal angulation (5° to occlusal plane perpendicular on models). Lower incisors supero-inferior position (41-48 mm to soft-tissue mandibular plane), antero-posterior position (3-4 mm to Nasion-B, 1-3 mm to A-Pogonion, 12-15 mm to true vertical line, 6-8 mm to coronal plane through pupils), bucco-lingual angulation (1-4° to occlusal plane perpendicular on models, 87-94° to mandibular plane, 68° to Frankfurt plane, 22-25° to Nasion-B, 105° to occlusal plane, 64° to lower occlusal plane, 21° to A-Pogonion), mesio-distal angulation (2° to occlusal plane perpendicular on models). Conclusions: Although these findings can provide clinical guideline, they derive from heterogeneous studies in terms of subject characteristics and reference methods. Therefore, the optimal incisal position remains debatable.

  • This paper presents formation reconfiguration using impulsive control input for spacecraft formation flying. Spacecraft in a formation should change the formation size and/or geometry according to the mission requirements and space environment. To modify the formation radius and geometry with respect to the leader spacecraft, the follower spacecraft generates additional control inputs; the two impulsive control inputs are general control type of the spacecraft system. For the impulsive control input, Lambert's problem is modified to construct the transfer orbit in relative motion, given two position vectors at the initial and final time. Moreover, the numerical simulation results show the transfer trajectories to resize the formation radius in the radial/along-track plane formation and in the along-track/cross-track plane formation. In addition, the maneuver characteristics are described by comparing the differential orbital elements between the reference orbit and transfer orbit in the radial/along-track plane formation and along-track/cross-track plane formation.

  • In this paper, we present some remarks on the correlations between s and w domains when a discrete-time transfer function is converted from z-plane by using the w-transform. With time response specifications, when a digital filter or controller is designed in z-plane, the w-transform is useful for the purpose if only the w-transformed system closely approximates to the continuous-time system. It will be shown that the approximation is accomplished only in the specific region depending on sampling time. Also, it is noted that such an approximation should be carefully dealt with for the case where a discrete-time reference transfer function is synthesized for the use of direct digital design.

  • This paper proposes a positional estimation method for extracted line features by stereo vision. Based on given reference plane, planar surfaces corresponding the given plane are first extracted. Then, features in the planar surfaces are selected. Using the Extended Kalman Filter the feature positions are estimated by combining area- and feature-based stereo matching results. Experimental results show the proposed method is feasible.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D automated measuring system which measures the mandibular movements and the reference plane of the jaw movements. In diagnosis and treatment of the malocclusions, it is necessary to estimate the mandibular movements and the reference plane of the jaw movements. The proposed system is configured with double stereo-cameras, PC, two moving pattern plates(MPPs), two fixed pattern plates(FPPs) and one orbital marker. The virtual pattern plate is applied to calculate the homogeneous transformation matrices which describe the coordinates systems of the FPP and MPP with respect to the world coordinates system. To estimate the parameters of the hinge axis, the Euler's theorem is applied. The hinge axis points are intersections between the FPPs and the hinge axis. The coordinates of a hinge axis point with respect to the MPP coordinates system are set up to fixed value. And then, the paths of the jaw movement can be calculated by applying the homogeneous transformation matrix to fixed hinge axis point. To examine the accuracy of the measurements, experiments of measuring the hinge axis points and floating paths of them are performed using the jaw motion simulator. As results, the measurement errors of the hinge axis points are within reasonable boundary, and the floating paths are very similar to the simulator's moving path.
