In the competitive electricity market, various pricing methods are developed and practiced in many countries. Among these pricing methods, marginal loss factor(MLF) can be applied to reflect the marginal cost of network losses. For the calculation of MLF, power flow method has been used to calculate system loss deviation. However, this power flow method shows some shortcomings such as necessity of regional reference node, and absence of an ability to consider network constraints like line congestion, voltage limit, and generation output limit. The former defect might affects adversely to the equity of market participants and the latter might generate an inappropriate price signals to customers and generators. To overcome these defects, the utilization of optimal power flow(OPF) is suggested to get the system loss deviation in this paper. 30-bus system is used for the case study to compare the MLF results by the power flow and the OPF method for 24-hour dispatching and pricing, Generator payment and customer charge are compared with these two methods also. The results show that MLF by OPF reflects the power system condition more faithfully than that of by the conventional power flow method

In this paper, we propose a performance index that can compare the position estimation performance according to the time slot allocation order, which is superior in the position estimation performance in the operation of the Link-16 based relative navigation system. In order to verify the validity of the performance index, a software-based Link-16 relative navigation system performance analysis platform composed of a signal generator, a signal reception and navigation algorithm execution unit, and a performance analysis unit was designed. Using the designed software platform, we analyzed the relationship between proposed performance index and position estimation performance according to time slot allocation order in the same position reference (PR) arrangement. The performance index of the proposed time slot allocation is expected to be utilized not only for the Link-16 system, but also for the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)-based navigation system.
A simulation procedure was developed for identifying Yungnam unit 2 excitation model parameters to improve the accuracy of stability simulation of KEPCO. First, generator model parameters are derived by using modified load rejection technique from measured load rejection test. For identifying excitation model parameters, switch was changed from MVR mode to AVR mode in Yungnam unit 2 excitation system instead of applying to a small step to the voltage reference($V_{ref}$) because of saving time and efforts, assuming the test result would show coincided result with applying to a small step to the $V_{ref}$. However, it was found that the response of switching from MVR to AVR is greatly different from it of applying small signal to the $V_{ref}$. A simulation procedure was needed to take into accounts of real AVR component status before and after switching from MVR to AVR. This paper reports the procedure which duplicated the measured response and addresses the merits of this test on conventional AVR step test.
This paper represents development of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and usage as a dew point sensor. The temperature of a quartz resonator was controlled precisely from $20^{\circ}C$ to $-30^{\circ}C$ with the ramping rate of $0.1^{\circ}C/s$ by using a custom-made crystal holder housing the quartz resonator associated with a thermoelectric cooler (Peltier cooler), which results in the working range from $15.2^{\circ}C$ to $-24.0^{\circ}C$ based on an accurate holder temperature compensation and temperature effect compensation process. The developed QCM dew point sensor and analysis techniques show very good sensing characteristics at measurement of moist air with the relative humidity from 10 %R.H. to 90 %R.H. generated by a divided-type humidity generator and the dew point temperatures were determined with an accuracy of less than ${\pm}0.18^{\circ}C$, which also showed good agreement with reference values in their error range.
Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is applied for solving Combined Economic Emission Dispatch (CEED) problem with valve-point loading of thermal generators. This CEED problem with valve-point loading is a nonlinear, constrained multi-objective optimization problem, with power balance and generator capacity constraints. The valve-point loading introduce ripples in the input-output characteristics of generating units and make the CEED problem as a nonsmooth optimization problem. To validate its effectiveness of NSGA-II, two benchmark test systems, IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems are considered. To compare the Pareto-front obtained using NSGA-II, reference Pareto-front is generated using multiple runs of Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) with weighted sum of objectives. Comparison with other optimization techniques showed the superiority of the NSGA-II approach and confirmed its potential for solving the CEED problem. Numerical results show that NSGA-II algorithm can provide Pareto-front in a single run with good diversity and convergence. An approach based on Technique for Ordering Preferences by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is applied on non-dominated solutions obtained to determine Best Compromise Solution (BCS).
A single-stage AC-AC converter has been designed for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) that eliminates multistage operation and DC-link filter elements, thus resolving size, weight, and reliability issues. A simple switching strategy is used to control the switches that changes the variable-frequency AC output of an electrical generator to a constant-frequency supply to feed into a distributed electrical load/grid. In addition, a modified random sinusoidal pulse width modulation (RSPWM) technique has been developed for the designed converter to make the overall system more efficient by increasing generating power capacity and reducing the effects of inter-harmonics and sub-harmonics generated in the WECS. The technique uses carrier and reference waves of variable switching frequency to calculate the firing angles of the switches of the converter so that the three-phase output voltage of the converter is very close to a sine wave with reduced THD. A comparison of the performance of the proposed RSPWM technique with the conventional SPWM demonstrated that the power generated by a turbine in the proposed approximately increased by 5% to 10% and THD reduces by 40% both in voltage and current with respect to conventional SPWM.
Wearable devices and IoT are being utilized in various fields, where all systems are developing in the direction of multi-functionality, low power consumption, and high speed. In this paper, we propose a DC -DC Step-down C onverter for IoT smart devices. The proposed DC -DC Step-down converter is composed of a control block of the power supply stage. It also consists of an overheat protection circuit, under-voltage protection circuit, an overvoltage protection circuit, a soft start circuit, a reference voltage circuit, a lamp generator, an error amplifier, and a hysteresis comparator. The proposed DC-DC converter was designed and fabricated using a Magnachip / Hynix 180nm CMOS process, 1-poly 6-metal, the measured results showed a good match with the simulation results.
In recent years research on automatic font generation with machine learning mainly focus on using transformation-based methods, in comparison, generative model-based methods of font generation have received less attention. Transformation-based methods learn a mapping of the transformations from an existing input to a target. This makes them ambiguous because in some cases a single input reference may correspond to multiple possible outputs. In this work, we focus on font generation using the generative model-based methods which learn the buildup of the characters from noise-to-image. We propose a novel way to train a conditional generative deep neural model so that we can achieve font style control on the generated font images. Our research demonstrates how to generate new font images conditioned on both character class labels and character style labels when using the generative model-based methods. We achieve this by introducing a modified generator network which is given inputs noise, character class, and style, which help us to calculate losses separately for the character class labels and character style labels. We show that adding the character style vector on top of the character class vector separately gives the model rich information about the font and enables us to explicitly specify not only the character class but also the character style that we want the model to generate.
