  • This paper describes a control scheme for direct torque and flux control of induction machines. The proposed predictive flux control scheme has directly calculated the reference voltage space vector based on flux errors in order to control the torque and flux. This proposed control scheme has not the requirement of a separate current regulator and proportional-integral (PI) control of the flux, torque, and/or current error, thereby improving transient performance and also has the advantage of less torque ripple in steady state with a fixed switching period. The effect of proposed method has been proven by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents a practical method of pressure control for a hydraulic oil-pump system using an SR (Switched Reluctance) drive. For a 6Mpa grade hydraulic oil-pump, a 2.6kW SR drive is developed. In order to get high performance pressure dynamics in actual applications, a data based PID control scheme is proposed. The look-up table from a pre-measured data base produces an approximate current reference based on motor speed and oil-pressure. A PID controller can compensate for the pressure error. With the combination of the two references, the proposed control scheme can achieve fast dynamics and stable operation. Furthermore, a suitable current controller considering the nonlinear characteristics of an SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) and practical test methods for data measuring are presented. The proposed control scheme is verified by experimental tests.

  • This paper proposes a simplified and efficient control scheme for Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) based on three-level (NPC) inverter capable to mitigate source current harmonics and compensate all voltage disturbances perturbations such us, voltage sags, swells, unbalances and harmonics. The UPQC is designed by the integration of series and shunt active filters (AFs) sharing a common dc bus capacitor. The dc voltage is maintained constant using proportional integral voltage controller. The shunt and series AF are designed using a three-phase three-level (NPC) inverter. The synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory is used to get the reference signals for shunt and the power reactive theory (PQ) for a series APFs. The reference signals for the shunt and series APF are derived from the control algorithm and sensed signals are injected in tow controllers to generate switching signals for series and shunt APFs. The performance of proposed UPQC system is evaluated in terms of power factor correction and mitigation of voltage, current harmonics and all voltage disturbances compensation in three-phase, three-wire power system using MATLAB-Simulink software and SimPowerSystem Toolbox. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UPQC system can improve the power quality at the common connection point of the non-linear load.

  • In this paper, a model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme is applied for the precise and robust motion control of a pneumatic system with load variation. The reference model for MRAC is designed systematically using linear quadratic Gaussian control with loop transfer recovery (LQG/LTR). The sigmoid function of inverse velocity is used to compensate for the nonlinear friction force between the sliding parts. The experimental results show that MRAC effectively overcame the limit of the PID controller when there was unknown disturbance, including abrupt load variation and model uncertainty in the pneumatic control system.

  • This paper investigates the adaptive control of a fuzzy logic based speed and flux controller for a vector controlled induction motor drive. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the model reference adaptive control(mAC) fuzzy controller is evaluated by simulation for various operating conditions. The validity of the proposed MRAC fuzzy controller is confirmed by performance results for induction motor drive system.

  • In this paper auto-tuning scheme of PID controller based on the reference model has been studied for a Process control system by immune algorithm. Up to this time, many sophisticated tuning algorithms have been tried in order to improve the PID controller performance under such difficult conditions. Also, a number of approaches have been proposed to implement mixed control structures that combine a PID controller with fuzzy logic. However, in the actual plant, they are manually tuned through a trial and error procedure, and the derivative action is switched off. Therefore, it is difficult to tune. Since the immune system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (Parallel Distributed Processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Simulation results reveal that reference model basd tuning by immune network suggested in this paper is an effective approach to search for optimal or near optimal process control.

  • This paper presents a new robust sensorless control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with variable structure. The lumped disturbances such as parameter variation and load disturbance of the system are estimated by a variable structure approach based on model reference adaptive scheme. A Reduced Order Extended Luenberger Observer(ROELO) is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

  • Experiment on a lab-scale pH process is carried out to evaluate the control performance of the neural linearizing control scheme(NLCS) using a radial basis function(RBF) network which was previously proposed by Kim and Park. NLCS was developed to overcome the difficulties of the conventional neural controllers which occur when they are applied to chemical processes. Since NLCS is applicable for the processes which are already controlled by a linear controller and of which the past operating data are enough, we first control the pH process with PI controller. Using the operating data with PI controller, the linear reference model is determined by optimization. Then, a IMC controller replaces the PI controller as a feedback controller. NLCS consists of the IMC controller and a RBF network. After the learning of the neural network is fully achieved, the dynamics of the process combined with the neural network becomes linear and close to that of the linear reference model and the control performance of the linear control improves. During the training, NLCS maintains the stability and the control performance of the closed loop system. Experimental results show that the NLCS performs better than PI controller and IMC for both the servo and the regulator problems.

  • The three-phase synchronous reference frame phase-locked loop (SRF-PLL) is widely used for synchronization applications in power systems. In this paper, a new control strategy for three-phase grid-connected LCL inverters without a PLL is presented. According to the new strategy, a current reference can be generated by using the instantaneous power control scheme and the proposed positive-sequence voltage detector. Through theoretical analysis, it is indicated that a high-quality grid current can be produced by introducing the new control strategy. In addition, a kind of independent control for reactive power can be achieved under unbalanced and distorted grid conditions. Finally, the excellent performance of the proposed control strategy is validated by means of simulation and experimental results.
