  • In long tunnel If we reduce the length of system height on catenary system, tunnel construction cost is cut down. It is because of tunnel section curtailment. So that we have review reduction of system height according to tunnel section. We have designed reduction of system height considered characteristics of overhead contact systems within UIC 799 code.

  • In this work, closing behavior of the voids generated in a casting process was investigated for various parameters such as reductions in height void size and billet rotation during hot open die forging process. The reduction in height and path schedule including the number of paths and billet rotation were chosen as key process variables to express the change of geometrical void shape and void closing behavior. On the other hand, values of die overlapping and die width ratio were set to be constant. Extend of void closure was observed and evaluated using tensile test and microscope. Based on the experimental result, it is ensured that void closure do not occur at 15% and 30% reduction in height as well as one or two rotations of a billet. The useful datum obtained from this study could be utilized to establish an optimum path schedule in the open die forging process.

  • The effects of squealer rim height on three-dimensional flows and aerodynamic losses downstream of a high-turning turbine rotor blade have been investigated for a typical tip gap-to-chord ratio of h/c=2.0%. The squealer rim height-to-chord ratio is changed to be $h_{st}/c$=0.00(plane tip), 1.37, 2.75, 5.51, and 8.26%. Results show that as $h_{st}/c$ increases, the tip leakage vortex tends to be weakened and the interaction between the tip leakage vortex and the passage vortex becomes less severe. The squealer rim height plays an important role in the reduction of aerodynamic loss when $h_{st}/c{\leq}2.75%$. In the case of $h_{st}/c{\geq}5.51%$, higher squealer rim cannot provide an effective reduction in aerodynamic loss. The aerodynamic loss reduction by increasing $h_{st}/c$ is limited only to the near-tip region within a quarter of the span from the casing wall.

  • Dual-wavelength holography has better axial range than single-wavelength holography, allowing unambiguous phase imaging but at the expense of increased noise. We have studied error reduction in dual wavelength holography using a modified fine map. The fine map is successful in measurement and has shown error reduction when the height of the object is less than the appled wavelength, but is unstable when the step height is larger than that wavelength. We have modified the fine map and we have found that the modified fine map was successful in measurement and error reduction even though the height of object was larger than the wavelength.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes and radiographic results of open reduction and internal fixation for intraarticular calcaneal fractures. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 20 cases of calcaneal fractures managed with open reduction and internal fixation from March 2003 to January 2005. We used the computed tomographic classification system proposed by Sanders et al to classify these fractures. Preoperative and postoperative Bohler's angle, heel height (calcaneal facet height) and calcaneal length, calcaneal width were measured. The Creighton-Nebraska Health Foundation Assessment score was used for clinical evaluation. Results: There were 12 cases of type II fractures, 5 of type III fractures and 3 of type IV fractures. The mean clinical score was 84.3 for type II, 82.6 for type III and 56.1 for type IV. The mean preoperative $B{\ddot{o}}hler$ angle was $6.1^{\circ}$ and final was $22.8^{\circ}$. The mean preoperative calcaneal facet height was 76.6 mm and final was 80.3 mm (The mean calcaneal facet height was changed from preop 76.6 mm to postop 80.3 mm). The mean preoperative calcaneal length was 88.2 mm and final was 92.6 mm. The mean preoperative width was 38.1 mm and final was 35.6 mm. Conclusion: Open reduction and internal fixation showed good results for type II and III fractures, but for type IV fractures the clinical result was significantly worse than the other types. However, type IV fractures still had restoration of (should be restored in) $B{\ddot{o}}hler's$ angle, calcaneal facet height, calcaneal length and width which may be helpful in later subtalar fusion.

  • The demand for the structural system of reduction of story height increases because buildings are getting higher. The existing structural systems are not efficiency. Thus, it is hard to reduce the story height and existing methods cannot secure economics as expected. This study aims at developing the partially concrete-filled new type composite beam, which can efficiently resist against the end negative moment and central positive moment, also reduce deflection of beams. Through case studies on loading of concentrated load and uniformly distributed load to fixed beam, we could find the most efficient ratio of moment of inertia and the ratio ${\alpha}$(end beam length to span). The gap space between middle and end beam can be used as facilities installation, consequently the suggested Omega beam system is expected to get the effect of reduction in story height as well as reduction of quantity.

  • This study is to propose reduction effect of scour depth and a optimum size of circular collar through experimental analyses with various collar sizes. To do so, we carried out hydraulic model experiments. In the case of with considering the collar, the effect of reduction of scour depth increased according to the increase of collar size. When size of collar is 2 as the ratio of collar diameter(W) to pier diameter(D), scour depth is decreased about 67% and deposition height is increased about 70%. The optimal size of collar proposed in this study is W/D=2 by analyzing reduction effect of scour depth, size of scour hole, and deposition height.

  • Because it is difficult to install new large hydraulic structure, washland is considered as alternatives of hydraulic facility. As flood reduction effect of washland is dependent on flood, hydrograph, capacity of washland and spillway height, applying adequate spillway height is very important to maximize flood reduction effect of washland. In this study, effect of variation of spillway height on flood reduction effect of washlands is analyzed. The existing model developed to make decision for optimal location of washland using flood reduction effect as evaluation function and location of washland as decision variable was revised for this purpose. The spillway height of washland is added as decision variable and revised model finally give optimal location and spillway height of washland as result. The developed model has been applied to the Ansung River basin and application result was compared with that of existing model. The application result shows that developed model can give more efficient result than existing model.

  • PURPOSES : The noise, which is typically generated by fast moving vehicles, can be intercepted by installing a noise barrier with a soundproof panel. However, reflections from the panels cause secondary noise, and hence lower the effectiveness of the panels. In this study, the reduction of reflection noise by considering the shape, especially zigzag one, of the soundproof panel have been evaluated. METHODS : The simulation model used in this study was Nord2000, which simulates real-road situations effectively. Based on the simulation results, the joining angle of $133^{\circ}$ with the pattern width (a) equal to 2 m and the projection height (b) equal to 0.5 m was adapted in the zigzag shape as the best profit designing factors. RESULTS: The measuring results at middle height, 15 m showed reduction at all points except the point with average -1.6 dB. At a greater height of 30 m, 2 points showed reduction. A real-sized facility was constructed to investigate the reflected sound from a zigzag shaped panel up to the height of 5 m. CONCLUSIONS: The reduction effects were detected in all the receive points in the range of 2-6 m distances and 1-5 m heights comparing the plane panel. Compared to plane panel, the noises are reduced at an average of 2.4 dBA.

  • The mechanical properties and bonding mechanism of aluminum, copper and mild steel have been determined in cold pressure welding. The brittle cover layer to be established by scratch-brushing plays an important role in bond strength and has an influence on the threshold of deformation. The cold pressure welding was achieved at 54% of height reduction in A1-A1, 75% in Cu-Cu, 56% in Al-Cu, and 74% in Cu-steel. The height reduction at which the bond strength of weld interface was the same as the tensile strength of base metal should be over 76% in Al-Al, 82% in Cu-Cu, and 78% in Al-Cu.
