  • The paper presents the experimental studies on the effectiveness of some vibration isolators developed for reducing transmission of vibration from the powered knapsack sprayer to the back and shoulders of the operator. A test rig was used to conduct detailed experimental studies on the powered knapsack sprayer mounted on it and fitted with different vibration isolators. Structural features of vibration isolators have been presented and their effectiveness of isolating transmission of vibration, from the engine-blower of the sprayer to its main frame and the operator, has been presented and discussed. Vibration measurements and analyses made by using B & K equipment have proved that the vibration isolators are quite effective in reducing the vibration transmission. The operators felt much less discomfort when they used the sprayer fitted with the isolators developed for the purposes, as compared to the existing arrangement.

  • Purpose: This paper presents graphic methods and desirability function approach to determine best vibration reducing configuration for Surion helicopter. Many flight tests were executed and nine vibration levels in cockpit, cabin, and engine room were measured in each test and analyzed to find optimal configuration. Methods: Graphic analysis methods such as matrix, scatter, and box plots are used to identify better vibration-reducing flight test conditions. As an integrated measure of the performance of 9 vibration levels desirability function approach is adopted. Results: Three vibration reducing configurations are found to be proper and one configuration is recommended. Conclusion: It is expected to be helpful to adopt graphic and desirability function methods presented in this paper in developing new products or systems like helicopters. For efficient and effective flight testing of helicopters, it will be necessary to have consistently homogeneous environment for flight testing and applying design of experiments techniques and analyzing test data.

  • This study presents an development of impact damper and its application to reduction of railway vibration from moving roads. The impact damper for reducing trnsverse vibration from moving loads were designed and verified using simple dynamic model. To verify the performance of the impact damper, the vibration of a simplified beam with the impact damper was measured. The performance on reducing vibration for different clearance and mass ratio of the damper was investigated. The numerical solutions were verified using the experimental results from a simplified beam. The result can be utilized to reduce the rolling noise from high-speed trains.

  • In this study, an improvement design method for reducing the vibration of fenders equipped in a tractor is proposed through the establishment of a finite element model and the topology optimization. As the original shapes of the parts cannot be altered, an improved design model was derived in which a stiffener was attached to the border of parts. Thus, the first resonance frequency was increased by approximately 16 Hz, which was confirmed to be the frequency interval for avoiding the idle and operating frequency of the engine. Finally the improved design model was applied to confirm the effect of vibration reduction. Therefore, it can be concluded that the improved design model of the tractor fender is effective at reducing vibrations of the tractor fender.

  • In this paper vibration reduction characteristics of floating floors used in railway vehicles are studied. Vibration reduction characteristics are compared through a series of tests for elastically-coupled floor and rigidly-coupled floor. It was found that elastically-coupled floor has larger vibration reduction amount than rigidly-coupled floor. Around the fundamental natural frequency, however, elastic floor has poor vibration reduction effect than rigid floor. Measures to reduce structure-borne noise are also discussed based on the test results. Structure-borne noise for running railway vehicles cannot be reduced by an effort to deviate resonance between natural frequency of floors and major exciting forces. Instead, reducing vibration level of top floor and using covers which have low sound radiation coefficient will be effective for reducing structure-borne noise.

  • Background: To evaluate the effectiveness of vibration as a counter-stimulatory measure in reducing subjective pain due to local anesthesia administration in children. Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, Ovid SP, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) were searched until April 2020. Studies were screened by titles and abstracts, followed by full text evaluation of the included studies. Results: A total of seven studies involving 376 children aged 5-17 years were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The meta-analysis compared vibration as a counter-stimulatory measure with no vibration as a comparator. The primary outcome evaluated was pain perception or subjective pain reported by the child. The secondary outcome evaluated was objective pain evaluated in each study. The pooled mean difference favored vibration to be effective for the first outcome. Conclusion: Within the limits of this systematic review, low quality evidence suggests that vibration as a counter-stimulatory measure is effective in reducing the subjective pain reported by children during local anesthesia administration.

  • In this study, the torsional vibration analysis for a marine propulsion system is carried out by using the transfer matrix method(TMM). The torsional moment produced by gas pressure and reciprocating inertia force may yield severe torsional vibration problem in the shaft system which results in a damage of engine system. There are several ways to control the torsional vibration problem at hand, firstly natural frequencies can be changed by adjusting shaft dimensions and/or inertia quantities, secondly firing order and crank arrangement are modified to reduce excitation force, and finally lower the vibration energy by adopting torsional vibration damper. In this paper, the viscous torsional vibration damper is used for reducing the torsional vibration stresses of shaft system and it is conformed that optimum model of the viscous damper can be determined by selecting the geometric design parameters of damper and silicon oil viscosity.

  • A centrifugal turbo blower of the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) operates at very high speed above 30000 rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. In this paper, dynamic analysis of the blower executed by numerical simulation and experimental analysis of the blower is also performed. Then, measured and simulated results are compared in order to validate of the simulation. Finally, reducing vibration through modifying mount stiffness is the main purpose of this paper.

  • The fluctuation of the engine torque appears to be the major source of the torsional vibration of the automotive driveline. The reduction of this torsional vibration has become a significant problem, due to an increase in the fluctuation of the torque of recent light weighted and high powered engines, along with the requirements of higher performance. The torsional vibration of the automotive driveline can be reduced by smoothing the fluctuation by adjusting the torsional characteristics of the clutch-disc. This paper presents an experimental and theoretical research on the clutch-disc torsional characteristics for the reduction of the torsional vibration at driving. The effects of clutch-damper on diminishing the torsional vibration were investigated experimentally. A dynamic model for the automotive driveline was developed, and the engine torque of the model were evaluated with experimental data. By executing a simulation using the model, it has become possible to obtain the clutch-disc torsional characteristics and the clutch-disc torsional characteristics for reducing the torsional vibration has been suggested. The results are as follows: (1) By exceuting simulations using nonlinear model of four degrees of freedom, a design technique to determine the clutch-disc torsional characteristics for reducing the torsional vibration at driving was developed. (2) The influence of barious torsional characteristics of the clutch has been studied in examining design parameters, which indicates that the domain to minimize the torsional vibration at driving depends on the characteristics of the clutch-damper, i. e., spring constant and hysteresis.
