객체 추적을 위한 SURF 기반 특이점 추출 및 서술자 생성의 하드웨어 설계 (Hardware Design of SURF-based Feature extraction and description for Object Tracking)

  • 최근 영상처리 응용의 일환으로 객체 추적 시스템에 많이 활용되는 SURF 알고리즘의 경우 영상의 회전 및 크기 변화에 강인한 특이점을 추출한다는 특징이 있지만 연산이 복잡하고 연산량이 많아 임베디드 환경에서 IP로 사용되기 위해서는 하드웨어 가속기 개발이 필수적이다. 하지만 이 때 요구되는 내부 메모리 사이즈가 매우 크기 때문에 ASIC이나 SoC 시스템으로 개발 할 때 칩 회로 사이즈가 커서 IP의 가치를 떨어뜨리게 된다. 본 논문에서는 하드웨어 가속기 개발 시 회로면적에 효율적인 설계를 위해 내부 블록메모리 사용량을 줄이고 외부 메모리와 DMA를 사용하여 세분화된 Sub-IP 구조로 설계하는 것에 대해 연구하고 간단한 객체 추적 알고리즘을 개발하여 그 결과를 적용하였다. ARM Cortex-M0, AHB-lite, APB, DMA, SDRAM Controller로 구성된 시스템 환경에서 실험 결과 VGA(640x480)영상에서 SURF 알고리즘의 처리속도는 약 31frame/sec, 블록 메모리의 크기는 81Kbytes, 30nm 공정에서 회로의 크기는 약 74만 게이트 크기로 SoC 칩의 하드웨어 IP로 활용이 가능하였다. SURF와 비슷한 영상처리 알고리즘에서도 본 논문에서 제안하는 설계방법을 적용하면 타겟 어플리케이션에 효율적인 하드웨어 설계를 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Validation of Ultrasound and Computed Tomography-Based Risk Stratification System and Biopsy Criteria for Cervical Lymph Nodes in Preoperative Patients With Thyroid Cancer

  • Objective: This study aimed to validate the risk stratification system (RSS) and biopsy criteria for cervical lymph nodes (LNs) proposed by the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology (KSThR). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included a consecutive series of preoperative patients with thyroid cancer who underwent LN biopsy, ultrasound (US), and computed tomography (CT) between December 2006 and June 2015. LNs were categorized as probably benign, indeterminate, or suspicious according to the current US- and CT-based RSS and the size thresholds for cervical LN biopsy as suggested by the KSThR. The diagnostic performance and unnecessary biopsy rates were calculated. Results: A total of 277 LNs (53.1% metastatic) in 228 patients (mean age ± standard deviation, 47.4 years ± 14) were analyzed. In US, the malignancy risks were significantly different among the three categories (all P < 0.001); however, CT-detected probably benign and indeterminate LNs showed similarly low malignancy risks (P = 0.468). The combined US + CT criteria stratified the malignancy risks among the three categories (all P < 0.001) and reduced the proportion of indeterminate LNs (from 20.6% to 14.4%) and the malignancy risk in the indeterminate LNs (from 31.6% to 12.5%) compared with US alone. In all image-based classifications, nodal size did not affect the malignancy risks (short diameter [SD] ≤ 5 mm LNs vs. SD > 5 mm LNs, P ≥ 0.177). The criteria covering only suspicious LNs showed higher specificity and lower unnecessary biopsy rates than the current criteria, while maintaining sensitivity in all imaging modalities. Conclusion: Integrative evaluation of US and CT helps in reducing the proportion of indeterminate LNs and the malignancy risk among them. Nodal size did not affect the malignancy risk of LNs, and the addition of indeterminate LNs to biopsy candidates did not have an advantage in detecting LN metastases in all imaging modalities.

조리개형 X선 콜리메이터의 개발에 따른 유용성 평가 (Usability Evaluation by Development of IRIS Type X-ray Collimator)

  • In this study, we evaluated the DAP(Dose Area Product) reduction effect of the newly developed IRIS collimator by measuring the DAP of the Rectangle collimator and the IRIS collimator depending on the field, SID(Source to Image recpetor Distance) change, and AEC mode use. The results were as follows. The IRIS collimator decreased DAP by 34.91, 29.33, and 29.04%, respectively, compared to the Rectangle collimator when the field was increased to $8{\times}8$, $12{\times}12$, $16{\times}16inch$. And also, when the SID was increased to 100, 120 and 140 cm, the IRIS collimator decreased DAP by 10.73, 33.68 and 46.22%, respectively, compared to the Rectangle collimator. In AEC mode and none-AEC mode, DAP in IRIS collimator was reduced by 32.71 and 21.69%, respectively, compared with the Rectangle type. The IRIS collimator can reduce DAP by 29.62% on average compared to Rectangle type, which is statistically significant. These results suggest that the newly developed IRIS collimator can be used in medical field to alleviate radiation exposure.

CROSS-INTERFEROMETRY FOR DEM CONSTRUNTION WITH ERS-ENVISAT PAIR

  • Spaceborne radar interferometry has been widely used to estimate the topography and deformation of the Earth. It is difficult to obtain coherent interferometric SAR pairs especially over coastal areas mainly because of variation of surface conditions. We carried out the experiment using a cross-interferometric pair with a perpendicular baseline of about 1.4 km, a 30 minutes temporal separation and the height sensitivity of about 6 meters. The temporal decorrelation can be reduced by the cross interferometric technique with a 30 minutes temporal separation. Accurate coregistration was performed through resampling of ENVISAT ASAR data to equivalent pixel spacing to the ERS SAR data, because of the differences of the pulse repetition frequency and range sampling rate between the two sensors. Then we estimated range and azimuth offset to a sub-pixel accuracy using image intensity cross correlation. A larger window chip size than a general case was used because it was difficult to distinguish typical features. As range bin increased, the difference of Doppler centroid also increased. It resulted in lower coherence in far range than in near range. Coherences over wetland in near and far range were about 0.8 and 0.5, respectively. The coherence was improved by applying azimuth and range common band filtering, but coherence gap still existed. ERS-ENVISAT cross-interferogram usually lost information in urban area. However, high coherence over a city in this pair was shown, because of less man-made structures than other major cities. Accuracy of the DEM constructed by the ERS-ENVISAT 30-minute pair in a coastal area is to be evaluated.

OBSERVATION OF MICROPHYTOBENTHIC BIOMASS IN HAMPYEONG BAY USING LANDSAT TM IMAGERY

  • The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between microphytobenthic biomass and normalized vegetation index obtained from Landsat TM images. Monitoring a seasonal change of microphytobenthic biomass in the sand bar is specifically focused. Since the study area, Hampyeong Bay, was difficult to approach, we failed to obtain ground truths simultaneously on satellite image acquisition. Instead, chlorophyll-a concentration in surface top layer was measured on different dates for microphytobenthic biomass. Although data were acquired on different dates, a correlation between the field and satellite images was calculated for investigating general trends of seasonal change. NDVI and tasseled cap transformed images were also used to review the variation of microphytobenthic biomass by using Landsat TM and ETM+ images. Atmosphere effects were corrected by applying COST model. Seaweeds were also flouring in the same season of microphytobentic blooming. Songseok-ri area was minimally affected by seaweeds from February to May, and selected as a test site. NDVI value was classified into high-, moderate-, and low-grade. It was well developed over fme-grained sediments and rapidly reduced from May to November over sand bar. In this bay, correlation between grain size and microphytobenthic biomass was clearly seen. From the classified NDVI and tasseled cap transformed data, we finally constructed spatial distribution and seasonal variation maps of microphytobenthic biomass.

Night Scope 광학계의 설계 및 개발 (Development and Design of the Optical System of a Night Scope)

  • 레저 스포츠 분야에서 사용되는 Night Scope를 설계 제작해 보았다. 전체 구성은 IR조명계, objective결상계, IR촬상 튜브부, eye_piece 결상계로 이루어진다. objective 결상계는 색수차가 감소되도록 BK7, FD4의 재질로 만들었는데 40% MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) 기준치에 대해 25lines/mm의 분해능을 가지도록 하였다. 이 시스템은 초점거리가 80mm, 유효구경이 40mm 결상면의 크기가 직경 14mm인 광학계로 설계되어졌다. eye_piece 결상계는 제품 비용을 절감하기 위해 상용제품을 채택하였다. 이번 개발에서 얻은 개발 기술은 향후 Dot, Sight, Day/Night Riflescope System 등의 유사 제품의 개발에도 크게 이용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

인공피부용 실크 피브로인-알긴산 해면체의 창상치유 효과 (The Effect of Silk Fibroin-Alginic Acid Sponge Treatment as an Artificial Skin on Wound)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to compare the wound healing effect of silk fibroin, alginate and fibroin/ alginate blend sponge with clinically used Nu gauze in a rat skin defect model. Methods: Two full thickness excisions were made on the back of Sprague-Dawley rat. The excised wound was covered with either of the silk fibroin(SF), alginate (SA), or fibroin/alginate blend sponge(SF/SA). On the postoperative days of 3, 7, 10 and 14, the wound area was calculated by image analysis software. At the same time, a skin wound tissue was biopsied. Results: Healing time 50% ($HT_{50}$) of SF/SA sponge treated group was dramatically reduced as compared with that of control treatment. We also found that the $HT_{50}$ of SF/SA sponge was significantly decreased as compared with either those of SF or SA treatment. Furthermore, SF/SA treatment significantly increased the size of epithelialization and collagen deposition as well as the number of PCNA positive cells on epidermal basement membrane as comapred with those of control treatment. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the wound healing effect of SF/SA blend sponge is the best among other treatments including SF and SA during the whole wound healing period.

종이 표면 사이즈 프레스용 전분의 적용에 관한 연구 -표면 사이즈용 전분이 백상지 품질에 미치는 영향 - (Studies on the Application of Starch for paper surface sizing(III) - The influence of surface sizing treatment with starch on the quality of uncoated printing paper -)

  • Starch dissolved in paper-mill wastes, either as a result of poor retention on the paper web or recycling of surface-treated broke, was a major pollutant Laboratory tests were performed by using different kinds of starch as a surface treatment. It was concluded that the use of cationic starch can positively affect the level of starch dissolved in liquid effluents. When cationically modified starches were used for surface sizing, the starch was tightly bound to the paper fibers, it was not removed during the repulping of broke. The result of mill trial in fine paper manufacture for the application of low-viscosity cationic starches used in size press reduced COD load in the effluents and increased One Pass Retention. It had been found that when cationic starch used as a surface sizing agent, more starch was retained on or near the surface of the sheet than with conventional oxidized starches. Thus surface strengths and quality were improved. In addition it is possible to maintain the desired level of starch penetration into the fiber net and improve porosity, opacity and brightness. In contrast, in most cases, dusting problems are notably eliminated. Cationic surface sized starch improved black and color ink-jet print quality in terms of feathering and optical density of the print image. These improved properties were believed to be due to a combination of fiber bonding and surface orientation more uniform starch concentration on the paper surface was resulted. Moreover cationic charges in the paper surface lend themselves excellently to fix ink jet ink anionic in nature.

광각 카메라를 위한 저 복잡도 비네팅 및 배럴 왜곡 보정 프로세서 (A Low-Complexity Processor for Joint Vignetting and Barrel distortion Correction for Wide-Angle Cameras)

  • 본 논문에서는 광각 카메라에서 발생하는 비네팅 왜곡과 배럴 왜곡을 효율적으로 보정하기 위한 낮은 복잡도의 프로세서를 제안하고, 이를 구현한 결과를 보인다. 제안하는 프로세서에서는 비네팅 왜곡과 배럴 왜곡 보정 시 복잡한 연산을 수반하는 고차 다항식과 같은 피팅 함수를 구간 선형 근사하여 보정 품질을 유지하면서도 연산 복잡도를 크게 낮추었다. 이를 기반으로, 배럴 왜곡과 비네팅 왜곡을 중첩적으로 보정하도록 설계하여 전체적인 하드웨어 복잡도를 낮추었다. 제안하는 프로세서는 $0.11{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정을 사용하여 18.6K의 논리 게이트로 구현되었으며, $2048{\times}2048$ 크기의 영상에 대하여 최대 200Mpixels/s의 속도로 보정이 가능하다.

  • 적도 서태평양에 존재하는 심해저 탄산염 퇴적물(시주공번호: DSDP 288과 289)에 대한 물리적 성질(밀도와 공극율), 음향학적 성질(속도와 속도성분 차이의 비), 그리고 전기적 성질(전기저항도와 전기저항 성분차이의 비)에 대한 실험실적 연구를 퇴적물의 속성작용의 관점에서 행하였다. 전기저항도의 깊이에 따른 변화는 속도의 변화양상과 거의 일치하며 전기저항도가 속성작용을 결정할 수 있는 변수의 하나가 될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 처트나 규산질 석회암 지대에서의 음향학적, 전기 적 성질의 급격한 변화는 호층을 이루는 규산염광물 때문에 공극의 모양이 크게 변 함에 기인함을 시사한다. 규산염광물 때문에 만들어진 여분의 탄산칼슘이 주변의 공극사적 상질이 크게 변하는 중요한 이유의 하나라고 생각된다. 이러한 자료는 규 산염광물의 속성작용이 탄산염퇴적물의 속성작용을 가속화시킨 결과로 해석된다.
